I dont know if some of those reps are that dumb or they just straight out lie in order not to lose a customer. Countless of storys where verizon and sprint people tell folks not to switch cause in a few months the iphone would be available on their network.

2 years seems reasonable for the contract. I've never figured that it was a 5 year deal.

ATT is laying off a butt-load of folks. But, as much as I hate Att, I'll be switching over from TMO as soon as the new 3G model comes out.

I doubt it but if anything the only other GSM US company is Tmobile and their network is crap. Why bother?
I think they'd keep it exclusive to one network at each country they make the Iphone available at.

I didn't say that. I said I think their exclusivity is probably less than five years.

Meaning: not switching carriers, but adding more of them.

The customer service rep said the exact same thing to me. Also, I went into a Verizon store and the manager said not to switch to AT&T because the iPhone is coming to Verizon in September.

This is when I said "multi-year exclusive contract" and stormed out.

Really.... iPhone in Verizon in September? I honestly doubt Apple will go with Verizon much after Verizon initially turned down the iPhone. Apple will play with people who already accept their ends. Verizon never bows down to anyone much especially handset makers; hence why they have mediocre service.

Also on a side note, CDMA is not compatible with iPhone (GSM); gosh some costumer service reps need to get some brains in them, honest.

But...

Verizon uses a completely different cell phone technology then what the iphone uses that is NOT compatible.

I think the rep might be confusing the iphone with something else.

The representative did say the had a successful iPhone activation in the past. So maybe that person hacked in a way to not have to utilize the SIM Card.

Verizon owns some GSM towers mainly to make some money off other carrier's roaming charges. IIRC, Verizon also has some GSM plans, at least, that's what I've been told. So if you unlocked the iPhone you could get a Verizon plan, but they won't like it. They're trying to get people off their GSM stuff and go to CDMA. They're probably also very expensive plans.

I know Verizon is planning to open up its network to third party phones, so that you can buy your own phone anywhere and use it with a Verizon service plan. Verizon has told me that this should give users the motivation to call Apple and ask for a CDMA iPhone that could be used with Verizon.

I hope we get a European model of service soon!

Haha, tell Verizon that they should have taken the iPhone when they had the chance!

Verizon doesn't care.

Heck, they had less customer churn, percentage wise, than ATT did last year. Plus they didn't have to give up a lot of income or power to Apple.

Pretty good decision to pass on the iPhone, from their standpoint !

By the time Apple breaks out of their self-imposed suicidal ATT exclusive, rumored to end in 2012, Verizon (and ATT) will be selling WM7/8 4G LTE phones... without giving up anything.

.

Which is why they(atleast some of their stores) suggest people call Apple asking for a CMDA model?

Umm...if AT&T will be selling those WM7/8 phones 4G, what did they lose? Plus they have the iPhone. You're comparing Apple and Verizon...the are different markets.

Sprint is going Wimax.

Wow $45 a month for data? They charge an arm at verizon

Avalon - I didn't ask about the SIM card, although (on a side note) I did ask if I would need a data plan and she said, "Yes you would. Unlimited data plans are $44.99.

It's $45 in addition to a base plan from AT&T. Say you have a plan that has 1000 minutes and unlimited texting for $50. The texts in the base plan don't apply to the iPhone so to get unlimited texting with the iPhone, you would have to add that $45 to your original $50.

thats why they lost tons of customers to the iPhones AT&T

That's not what each company's year end results showed. Verizon ended up with a greater number of contract customers, which gives them the edge in income. And they had fewer customers leave than ATT did.

and every company out there is trying to copy the iPhone.

Thank goodness they're not doing that. Copying would be too easy, considering the fairly primitive (though flashy) iPhone UI and its lack of user customization and advanced user features.

Others ARE trying to match the browser UI and depth, which is great.

Others are creating far more interesting home page paradigms.

Others are NOT making phones that require a computer to activate, thank goodness. There is a HUGE market coming for smartphones that just work out of the box.

who cares what verizons year end numbers claim.
just by calling most of their techs youll know that they took a big hit by AT&T and the iPhone. They all told to lie to consumers telling them in a few months they'll have the iPhone available :D. Dont switch just wait a little......
LOL

Huh?

The iPhone data plans with AT&T are:

$20 - Unlimited Data and 200 Text Messages
$30 - Unlimited Data and 1500 Text Messages
$40 - Unlimited Data and Unlimited Text Messages

Let's get our facts straight.

What a stupid sales rep... You should have asked her how she activated it....

this makes me laugh.. im british in UK and i know that CDMA and GSM are not compatible...
