the reason why this is news to people on this site (not to gloat and say haha Verizon), but the fact that IF the iPhone goes to Verizon then there WILL BE NO unlimited plan option at the time.

So many other industries have price wars going on between competitors, but it's like the cell market they all try to compete with who can charge the most fees and cents per kb for bragging rights.

It's ashame sprint/tmobile suck because if they were a good alternative it'd force big red and at&t to come down on their prices.

I actually prefer the tiered pricing model and wish it would come to land lines as well as wireless.

Think about it, I want the fastest connection possible so that when I get that 600MB update it only takes a few seconds, but I don't download movies 24/7. I should only pay for what I use, and shouldn't be regualted to slow speeds because I don't want to pay for the fast speed for the one time every few months I need it.

Paying for the bandwidth you use is really the only fair solution. As is, we users that don't use much bandwidth but want the fast speed are subsidising everyone that is pirating music or videos.

Same with the phone. I use the iPhone for email only, and it's pretty low bandwidth. Why should my rate be higher to subsidise all the people surfing the net on thier phone.

yeah! or sprint/tmobile will start charging more. ;)

that's why i'm hoping tmobile and sprint will merge and then maybe we'd have better prices all around.

Unfortunately it seems everyone is headed toward capping data.

Does Verizon offer free use of their wi-fi hotspots like AT&T? That would help with staying under the cap.

Innovation is usually expensive. How much has Apple poured into R&D for all their devices? How much money has AT&T, Verizon, etc... spent on building up their 3G/4G networks? They have to recoup their investment. Part of which is throttling back cheap users so that everyone else experience is not totally degraded.

Way to go MacRumors! Reporting on the front page about Apple product rumors! Oh wait, Apple wasn't even mentioned once in the article.

Now just because its a rumor that Verizon is getting the iPhone. So why does another Rumor about Verizon thats not related to the iPhone on the front page of an Apple Rumor site?

I hope these new plans will be available for MiFi users too. I'd much rather pay $25 for 2GB than $60 for 5GB. (I usually end up at around 2GB at the end of the month anyway). I also hope that Verizon adopts AT&T's overage situation as well. (Instead of being charged per kB over, you just pay $10 for an extra 1GB.)

Apple/AT&T figure they can bilk you for all you're worth because you can't live without your precious*

* iPhone

To all of the Verizon faithful (and I mean this in the nicest possible way . . .), I told you so. I will again reiterate my stance that ALL carriers are evil! This is just the latest hammer to fall.

iPhone wi-fi

this is exactly another reason release an iPhone wi-fi with out data plan and 2 year commitment

T-Mobile will follow suit soon, $15 (200MB) will be attractive to lots of customers than $30 (unlimited data plan)

But, but, Verizon is the Jesus Network! How can this be?!!

tin foil hats on guy and cat.jpg

Hey, while I'm at it I might as well ask: "When do you think Verizon will get the iPhone?" I really don't care, but figured this might save one new thread from being created today that's been asked a million times.

i have the droid x and unlimited data.

Hope your enjoying i heard it's a good phone :). But when Verizon switched the Data plans on the Feature phones (Dumbphones) it just didn't apply to new customers if an existing customer had a phone that was on that list they forced them to switch as well.

I hope they don't do that to people on smartphone plans but history has a pleasant and sometimes unpleasant way of repeating itself.

So what MEANS to write is "Data caps will kill innovation for cheap people.

Well, too bad for them. They're not everyone, though.

They are most people though. Either people genuinely cannot afford the bandwidth and then there are a large group of others philosophically opposed to making the telcos even richer. It's a small minority that have no problem paying huge amounts for extra gigabytes.

The pricing of text messages kills the credibility of the telcos. I have no sympathy for them.
