Facts and accuracy are irrelevant to them lol. They are just doing what they can, working a job every day, trying to survive and put food on the table.

I think this is all retail electronic employees. Most apple employees only know their products and even than sometimes they give out inaccurate information. Ive dealt with the same stupidity across all retail channels for all products lol.

AT&T reps telling me the iphone is 4g, the iphone 4 has a better battery than the bold 9700; etc.

Went to a Verizon Wireless store today...the actual one run by Verizon not individual. Was sitting there waiting for them to fix my moms phone and the guy justs hands me the iPad demo they had sitting there to play with and was telling me about all the prices on the iPads...never once mentioned any other tablet they had but instead told me about his and another employees experience with the iPads.

thats probably b.c its already settled that the ipad is the best tablet right now. The xoom and galaxy tab suck compared to the ipad. And i should know i had both for extended times

I think the transformer gives the ipad a challenge. The only issue is asus sucks at marketing. Its a great tablet possitive reviews everywhere you look I can't wait to get one myself.

Shy ronnie is my hero

i was referring to the tablets that verizon carry's since he wrote how the verizon reps only talked about the ipad.

It is definitely a commission issue.

I had heard trough the grapevine that Verizon employees got $50 commission for selling a Thunderbolt and $5 for an iPhone.

I was in a Verizon store last week and flat out asked a Verizon employee that I had gotten friendly with over the last year. He told me it was $40 commission for the Thunderbolt and $5 for the iPhone.

So this is the reason that Verizon employees push phones other than the iPhone. I can't blame them, can you? This is the deal that Apple wanted. We'll see if it hurts them long term with Verizon.

In Apple's DEFENSE they can't control how Verizon treats their employees as far as the amount of commission.

but this is why APPLE themselves 10 years ago to the present NEVER had commission based Apple Stores. They believed that it wouldn't be fair to the customer and would lead to complaints you all making now with Verizon.

For example even though it all the same manufacturer if the Apple Stores were commission you would go in to buy a MacBook and due to commission you are pressured in to a MacBook Pro. Steve said no due to the fact he wanted us to have a pleasurable shopping experience not be hounded for the biggest sale.

As others have said, corporate Verizon reps do not get paid on what phone you get, but rather the contract, the features, and the accessories. Authorized agents (of which there are many, often very different) pay their reps in a variety of ways.

well your manager friend is wrong. Iphone commission is a flat commission. While any other phone depends on price plan, existing data or not; etc.

Um no, he's not. I just went out last night with him, his boss, and a co worker and I asked them all. No commission on handsets, only contracts.

Not to mention handsets are a LOSS for Verizon due to them being subsidized, why on earth would they commission something they lose money on?

I hate biased sales reps. If you're going to work at any electronics store, you need to lose the bias and sell what's best FOR THE CUSTOMER. I don't care if you get payed more or if you think Apple is garbage. Your job is to help me - it's not the other way around.

I am a sales executive by trade, and I can assure you money talks. While I hold the customer in high regard and won't mis-sell, my sole aim is to make as much money as I possibly can. The more income I bring in the more bonus I get ( mine is paid a percentage of my income and is uncapped )

Anyway the product is never what makes the money, its the extras you sell with it. If a customer wanted an iPhone I would sell it to them, but I would make damn sure they took the insurance and very long contract and every other extra I could upsell them. That way both people are happy, the customer gets the phone they want and I get my commission.

yeah my brother came in to get a new phone for college. One man was helping him, and he was unbiased towards which type of phone to get... Meanwhile some woman who worked there was following them and literally telling him he'd be better off with a thunderbolt or fascinate. My brother said it just felt awkward and that he kind of just wanted to get out of there...

Get much repeat business?

Get much repeat business?

You being from a small farming community in the Carolinas probably can't imagine a world where it's not all mom and pop shops and good ol fashioned American sales service. This isn't 1965.

They get repeat business every year when it is time to upgrade because not everyone is that sensitive.

The "uptight sensitive consumer customer base" is not that significant that it affects business. You guys aren't millions deep like you like to imagine you are, especially not in metropolitan areas.

This may shock most of you, but most customers don't come in knowing exactly what they want, or even necessarily why they want it. A good rep qualifies his/her customer to figure out their needs and what they're trying to accomplish, then makes a suggestion based on that information. The iPhone is a fantastic choice for a lot of people. Android or Blackberry makes a lot of sense for a lot of other people. Yes, any salesperson (indeed any human being, especially human beings who post HERE) has biases, occasionally strong ones.

A good rep knows their product and learns enough about their customers to help guide them to what will suit them best. Some customers come in having done all their necessary research. It does happen.

It doesn't happen nearly as often as you guys might think.

Representatives earn the same amount regardless of phone model. They get comission from teh services sold.

As to why the recomend Android instead of iPhone . It is very obvious, Android is much better than iphone. More powerful phones, faster processors, 4G LTE, higher resolution OLED and best of all, a free open source OS. Free of Apple Greedyness, censorship and free of big brother appstore!
