Well yeah, but I can't predict the future and neither can you. You might be wrong, you might be right. It's irrelevant to this discussion. Mobile carriers in the US do not seem to care what might happen. They go by real data they get from their network. They will adjust their plans accordingly, just as they've always done. Not sure why you felt a personal attack was warranted. This is just a discussion.

Not really sure how you read that as a personal attack? just stating what I see as a fact. I don't have to be psychic to see where technology is headed

The annoying part with Verizon is how they nickle-and-dime you. When I was on T-mobile (2-phone family plan), I had 20% corporate discount. It was applied to everything, the shared voice as well as both data plans. On Verizon I have the same discount, but it's only applied to the primary line, so there is no discount for $30 data and $10 part of voice. Just like that, they make extra $8 a month on me.

Polbit

verizon will nickel and dime you for one reason: That is because they can. I have had verizon for about 10 years at the least, and have had a AT&T iphone up until it dropped on verizon. Sure, the speedtest.net app shows slightly slower download/upload, but the speeds VZW gets are plenty fast enough for web browsing. My experience has been that Verizon's network is far more reliable than what att has to offer. bottom line, att is a great network, and easily the second best in the country. Simply put, there connections, even if just for calls, are no where near as reliable as VZW. Sure in some places its better, but i work as a scout for a NFL team and travel to colleges all over america recruiting, and after having both services, i know that in the end i get what i pay for with verizon. Not trying to knock att at all. If you are upset with the new data plans its not VZW fault. basically you have had a long time to get the plan wanted, and soon enough, att will follow suit with pricing. Also, Tmo will cease to exist soon so their pricing is really moot in the long run.

I recently heard from friends who work for Verizon, that their discount just got bumped from 20% to 25%.
This is true for me as well. My discount just got bumped up from 20% to 25%...whoever said that corporate discounts were going away was just plain wrong.

That's what is making me switch. This is the ultimate greed move by making the most popular option not eligible for a discount.

AT&T could be free and id still choose verizon. maybe you guys don't need your phones but i live by my two verizon phones. My business would not function without them. AT&T's horrible reception gave me enough grief with my clients before.

Discounts aren't uncommon at VZ. I get 20% and I have friends that get between 15-17% it all depends where you work. And it only applies to the main line if you're on a family plan.

I currently get a 15% government discount on my regular phone plan but the new data plan clearly states that there are no discounts on the 2GB plan. So I am guessing when people sign up for the new plan they will receive no discount on the $30, maybe on the minutes plan but not the data portion.

It has been said before, but I'll say it again. This is largely a locational issue. I have great reception on AT&T and have had no issues where I live and work. Your mileage may vary though, depending on your location.

I wish more people would just admit that the network quality is base on location. I got great service at my house, job, and the city i lived in with AT&T. However, I got NO service most of the places I ride my motorcycle.

Now with Verizon, I have so-so (data) service at my job, great service at my house, and great service most of the places I ride my motorcycle.

In my area

AT&T: great data speeds when on 3G, so so voice quality, so-so 3G coverage beyond city limits

VZW: Slow data speeds (3X slower that AT&T 3G), great voice quality, Great 3G coverage in the city and in the middle of nowhere (albeit 3x sower than AT&T)

All the carriers are doing this. The one carrier I don't think will do this ever is Sprint.
Go on their web site and look at how much they brag about having true unlimited. They even had a commercial about it.
Anyone else agree?

That's because Sprint is bleeding subscribers. They're trying desperately to compete with Verizon and AT&T, so they have cheaper plans and unlimited data. However, they're already changing. They made Sprint Premier two tiered and are requiring the $10 "premium data" charge on all smartphones, even non-WiMAX smartphones.

In AppleLand hypocrisy runs rampant. Prior to the Verizon iPhone, there were a massive number of threads proclaiming Verizon as the ultimate solution.

Once the deal was done, all went silent.

Now the switch has been flipped and they're being bashed.

Simply hilarious.

I'm a customer of both carriers, so I see both good and bad sides on both carriers. It is laughable/annoying to read people who have poor service in one location, means everyone has the same poor service no matter what location they are in. I love my Verizon data coverage, but it isn't perfect. There have been a few times where Verizon's 3G is slow and usable... that I had to switch back to my AT&T 3G data. I do prefer my Verizon data more since I mostly connect to 4G LTE in my area... not including my home street.:(. But I have fast Internet at home.:)

Data plan changes

anyone have any success in getting an unlimted plan today? My friend is attempting to because he thought today was the last day to get it. doh :O

We are streamlining our data packages and creating usage based options to provide you with more choices for data on basic phones, Smartphone’s, tablets, netbooks, USB modems, and notebooks. With our new data packages, you'll be able to select the allowance that matches your usage patterns and budget. This is because majority of our Smartphone customers use less than 2 GB per month. So the $30/2 GB plan is usually more than enough. With Wi-Fi functionality on most phones and our data usage monitoring tools, you can ensure your using your new data plan effectively to prevent overages.

Additionally, we invest a lot into our network to provide our customers with outstanding service. As we plan for the future, we need to have the tools in place that allow us to continue to provide the nation's best and most reliable wireless network. Moving to usage based pricing helps us safeguard the superior experience our customers enjoy.

Okay, but here is the problem with that...

Number one, if you are going to have tiered plans, they should start at $25.

Number two, saying that Verizon has superior service is a complete and total misnomer. I've had an iPhone since the day the first one came out...last month, I switched to Verizon from AT&T and I couldn't be more disappointed.

For starters, multi-party calls are a complete cluster to the point where it is almost an unusable feature. The call waiting feature is terrible as well...if you are on a call and somebody else calls in, you are not able end your current call and answer the incoming call...the only thing you can do is answer the incoming call and leave the call you were on, on hold.

With AT&T, those features are seamless and being able to use data and voice simultaneously is maybe the most underrated thing AT&T has going for it.

For now, I'm stuck with Verizon, but if I had it to do all over again, I would have never made the decision to switch. AT&T, more specifically, GSM, just offers a much, much better user experience.

Now, with Verizon taking away unlimited data and even charging more than AT&T for the 2gb per month, I can't see a good reason for an iPhone user to leave AT&T for Verizon or a new iPhone user to select Verizon over AT&T.

Well it's absolutely ridiculous that there is not a smaller tier than the $30/mo. plan. What if you're aroung WiFi 95% of the time like I am?

I made the switch from AT&T to Verizon a few months ago. I agree that the multiple call handling is ridiculously cumbersome. The lack of voice+data sucks as well. However, AT&T is terrible in my area, and I was dropping calls several times a day, now with Verizon I have dropped one call in 3 months. From a business standpoint I have to put the highest level of importance on call reliability, an patiently wait for everything else to be worked out. I am happy for now.

Ps, props to Verizon for having a rep contribute to the forum. Ballsy. ;)

I bet that when sales figures show how many new sign ups they've lost because of the lower priced tiers on AT&T they'll make adjustments. Just seems like backward logic to me though, seems like they would want to be competitive right off the bat.

Well they won't be getting my business when I get the new iPhone. They went from an unlimited plan for $29.99 to the minimum smartphone data plan that is 2GB for $30.00.

What really pisses me off is it says the 2GB plan is not eligible for discounts.

I locked in unlimited data

They've often been a few bucks more than AT&T and it didn't hurt sales due to their network reputation. I doubt anything will change.

There's no way they're going to eliminate employee discounts. They're contracts between Verizon and your respective employers. My mother gets 22% with the hospital she works at.

I've got the same employee discount at the hospital I work at too. I wonder if it is like this at all health care facilities?

I hadn't looked into the VZW tiered data plans until today (I'm on AT&T). But, yesterday I told my gf to switch to a tiered data plan to save money (She barely uses her internet, maybe 300-500mb a month). Then I realized that the minimum is $30 for 2GB (Which is what she pays right now for unlimited..). So I said screw it, and kept the unlimited.
