Verizon sucks now.

Recently a local carrier in Quebec offered a 6Gb plan for $30 so the Big3 did as well, but only in Quebec. I'm pretty sure the other provinces are stuck with crappy plans (I'm in Ontario with this one).

Hopefully the 6Gb for $30 option is available again nationwide when the next iphone comes out so I can upgrade to that.

Rogers usually brings out the 6GB for $30 every year for the iPhone launch.

I recently heard from friends who work for Verizon, that their discount just got bumped from 20% to 25%.

There's no way they're going to eliminate employee discounts. They're contracts between Verizon and your respective employers. My mother gets 22% with the hospital she works at.

I think i lost mine because i went down to the $20 plan because i never use the phone for calling.

I was with T-Mobile for years and I didn't like the idea of getting swallowed by AT&T so I just switched to Verizon Tuesday and got my wife and I both iPhones with unlimited data. We are both teachers and we got some SWEET discounts! We get 18% off the monthly voice/text plans, 20% off data plans, and 20% off accessories. Plus we got both activation fees waived. I'm saving close to $40/month with the discounts, plus we both have grandfathered unlimited data! Verizon's switch to tiered data plans was really the push for me to switch. I wanted to lock in that unlimited data while I still could.

I get a 20% corporate discount on my AT&T plan as well, which sounds like it's not possible on Verizon.

I get 22% at ATT and 19% at Verizon. I get a better rate with Verizon because ATT doesn't discount the rate plan because I have to have unlimited minutes(2500-3000/month) but on Verizon they discount my unlimited voice which is in a family plan.

Sometimes the bigger number isn't the biggest discount.

I get a 23% discount thru my employer, I work at a hospital, just checked my account the discount is still there.

ATT or Verizon? What are you getting that discount on? Data, Voice or both? I didn't get my 22% on voice because ATT wouldn't do it on unlimited where Verizon does it on any plan over $35.99. I have to have unlimited voice so my discount is bigger on Verizon even though the percentage is smaller.

And yes, they still have discounts. It's set up with Verizon and ATT through your company or organization.

I get a 24% discount through my hospital employer too. An ATT guy once said to me that was the highest discount he's seen on an account.

Unlimited was always a marketing term. How do you think they came up with these numbers? They surveyed their smartphone users' data amounts and averaged them. Most users won't go beyond the 2GB cap, and if they do, Verizon has a couple other plans to choose from.

As more and more applications get more data intensive and with faster LTE data coming out you'll be eating your words soon enough

Well yeah, but I can't predict the future and neither can you. You might be wrong, you might be right. It's irrelevant to this discussion. Mobile carriers in the US do not seem to care what might happen. They go by real data they get from their network. They will adjust their plans accordingly, just as they've always done. Not sure why you felt a personal attack was warranted. This is just a discussion.

Verizon and AT&T are just trying to keep their profits ahead of the curve.

3-4 years ago, smart phone ownership was half what it is now, and there were very limited ways to stream video a la netflix/hulu to your phone. Tethering was something mostly savvy people attempted.

Nowadays teenagers stream southpark on their low end droids if they are in the car for more than 30 minutes. College students and hipsters jailbreak their iphones to tether their macbooks to the internets and most phones come with video chat installed.

Data usage is on the rise... and like all limited resources, prices go up when there is more demand.

Tiered data makes sense if smartphones eventually replace 'dumb'-phones. It sucks for consumers as a whole, but its the easiest way to dissuade people from downloading 1 GB movie torrents on their phones.

I get 22% through verizon through my employer, however, I don't have verizon.

I get 25% through AT&T, so im happy. But I would gladly shave 3% off for less dropped calls ;)

The crazy thing is that i get 27% off of Sprint where i am.....if only Sprint's coverage didn't BLOW.

And about the data, I'll continue to throw this arguement out there: there are probably double--if not more than that--the amount of cable/broadband users in the world/US, than there are phone data users. If my Cable company can give me BASICALLY unlimited data (capped at 250GB I think) for $40 a month, then there is NO DAMN WAY that these greedy ass cell phone companies should not be offering unlimited data for a similar price. I think just about every user on here would pay $40 for unlimited at this point. It's assenine.

I agree. Just using 3G to stream Sirius 1 hour a day pushed my data usage to over 2 GB a month. Just imagine how much data one person could use watching a football game via 4G with the DirecTV NFL package, or the HBO deal, or Netflix. The carriers know that, and know most people have no concept of data usage. They will nail people with that extra $10 per GB overage, which will then get people to switch to the $50 plan. What a huge increase in profits they see.

AT&T offers 200MB for $15, and right when you hit that, they add another 200MB for another $15. So 400MB for $30

Though I should say that there is a $25 = 2GB plan.

For the average consumer yes, $30 for 400MB for overage.

But, savvy consumers know that AT&T allows you to upgrade to the 2gb during the billing period and end up only having to pay $25. This is an no brainer way to save money on those overage occasions.

I agree somewhat. My data usage is increasing, but it's not from my iPhone. Since the first iPad, I use my iphone less, so my data usage on my iPhone is going down. My data usage is even more on my iPad 2, but it might because I I mainly use 4G LTE when I don't have wifi available. Steaming is a lot better with 4G LTE, and I do stream radio, pandora, and watch a Netflix movie every week at the beach with my wife on date nights. I average 2 to 3 gigs a month, and rarely go over 2.5 gigs. I'm sure the data on my iPad will still keep climbing as more apps come out, but I don't think my iPhone data will increase any. I have unlimited data my iPhone, but looking at my data usage... I'm not sure I need it. I guess for peace of mind.

How are you using 4G LTE? Are you using the MIFI device?

How are you using 4G LTE? Are you using the MIFI device?

Yes, my work was supposed to give me with a smartphone, but since Verizon has poor phone coverage in my area, I asked them to pay for my Verizon mifi data, and they can call my personal phone. The mifi data made more sense, since all we use our smartphones for is calendar and email. Plus it was cheaper for them. I recently upgraded my Verizon 2200 mifi with the Novatel 4G LTE mifi, and it's been working great. LTE is spotty at times, but I'm sure it will get better.

The good thing with Canadian data plans are that if you're paying $30 for 6GB's, you are able to use it as you see fit TETHERING INCLUDED. No need for a separate tethering plan. Carriers should take tie the same approach her in the US. After all, it IS our data we are paying for.
