Sorry about the double post. For those wondering, I called Verizon and asked if they could move my eligible date up (currently am eligible on two lines for upgrade on Oct. 7, 2012). I was told by the rep, after being on hold a couple minutes, that she thinks she will be able to help me, but she needs to call me back tomorrow. So she is calling me back as soon as her shift starts tomorrow morning to see if she can get me in on the preorder. So not confirmed yet, but better bet. Hopefully they're not majorly backordered by the time she calls me back, but seems to me the iPhone doesn't get backordered as quickly as the iPad usually does.

Note, I've had at least one line on Verizon for about five years now, and currently carry three lines and pay about $200 a month for my bill. So maybe that factors into it? I don't know. But here's hoping I get to preorder tomorrow.

If not, I'll survive a couple extra weeks without it. The only thing I'm getting it for is LTE, and we don't have LTE where I live. I travel a lot in the winter to an area that DOES have it though, so I'm looking forward to having it for that.

Not to burst your bubble, but Apple is pretty strict on not allowing early upgrades to purchase the iPhone...

I just got off the phone with Verizon, and I asked about doing an early upgrade. My upgrade date is October 8th 2012, and I asked if they were doing any kind of early upgrade for people that are so close. He just told me that part of Verizon's contract with Apple does not allow them to give early upgrades to anyone, and that I would have to wait. I'm pretty sure I was just lied to....

Probably not a lie, I was just on the phone with them about 10 minutes ago. My contract ends on the 7th of October and they told me the same thing. It's all apple according to them. Even spoke to a manager

Ok I've read this thread and I'm still confused about my situation, hoping someone can help.

I have the iPhone 4 unlimited data on Verizon. My upgrade is next month. I want to get the 5 but retain my unlimited. Seems like the way to do this is buying at FULL RETAIL price, which is too costly for me.

HOWEVER, my mom is also thinking about getting an iPhone. She currently has an old dumbphone on Spring, and wants to come over to Verizon on my plan, which would put us on the shared plan. Is there any way I can somehow upgrade to the iPhone 5, retain unlimited data, and have my mom sign up for a plan on verizon (with a new iPhone 4, or even my old iPhone 4)?

A rep told us something about switching sim cards, but I was really confused.

Any help?

Not sure who I got, but she seemed to really think she could do it. We shall see tomorrow. Not a big deal either way. Chances are I'll be able to get the new iPhone here in my local Walmart when I'm eligible anyway. When you couldn't get the 4S anywhere, I managed to snag one here as they had a ton of them in stock in all flavors.

I stopped into a Verizon store and also called Verizon today since I have an iphone 4 i purchased back in February of 2011 i'm not eligible to upgrade until my upgrade eligible date of 10-07-12. I was told if i wanted the iphone 5 before my upgrade date i would have to pay full price? Wouldn't Verizon pull everyone ahead for an early upgrade? Also what new plans am i facing with Verizon when i do renew for the next 2 years?

I have a Unlimited Data Plan on one line, one number with the 4s. I want the iphone5. I'm going to pay full retail for it. My question is, I want 4g LTE... when I get the 5 activate it on my line, when I switch to 4g LTE, will it change my plan? I am getting mixed replies.

Someone told me: "Just call Verizon and give IMEID number on the phone to Verizon customer rep. They will set you up. Make sure you tell them you purchased full price (i'm sure they can verify on their own as well).

You will be on unlimited LTE"

If I have an iPhone 4 and iPad that are both eligible for upgrades, could I upgrade the iPad and transfer it to my iPhone 4? Then I only have the iPad stuck on a 2 year contract, which is 10 dollars a month on share everything.

That is the way to go...10 a month locked in beats 45 a month.

This is what I'm doing. I'm wondering if it's safe to order the phone on the iPad line from apple though and swap it when it arrives without ***** up the iPad's line. I know verizon let's you transfer the upgrade to the other line when you order if you do it on their site, but I feel much more comfortable placing my order directly with apple. Tried to ask Verizon about it but they are useless.

Wow. First I want the thank everyone for contributing to this great thread!

Here's my situation. I've got a Nationwide Talk/Text 1400 Share Plan. I've got an iPhone 4 (mine), iPhone 4s, 2 dumb phones on it right now. Only the iPhone4 has unlimited data and my upgrade date is 10/10/2012. None of the other phones have upgrades available.

From what I've read, I can do this:

Option 1:
1) Transfer upgrade from my phone (iPhone4) to a dumb phone.
2) Use dumb phone upgrade to buy an iPhone5, get the $30 data plan.
3) Once I receive the iPhone 5, call Verizon and ask to switch the dumb phone/iPhone 5 to my iPhone 4 w/ unlimited data.
4) Once the iPhone5 is activated, it'll have my previous iPhone4 unlimited data attached to it.
5) Reactivate the dumb phone again....deactivate my iPhone4 and give it to my daughter as a glorified iTouch.

OR

Option 2:
Pay full retail price $849? for the iPhone 5 instead of the subsidized $499 for the 64gb.

With Option 1, I can't do it until 10/10/2012.
With Option 2, I can do it tonight/morning.

Either way....it sucks. Please correct me if my logic is wrong.
As far as I understand it, my legacy unlimited data will be 4G/LTE capable, except without the free hotspot (only available on new tiered plans).

That's my worry too. I don't know how much of a hassle it will be. Not only do you have to set the correct plan ($10) but you may have to hassle with sims (iPad is micro and iPhone will be nano).

For that reason ill just try the transfer upgrade on Verizon's site.

To the ones that have an upgrade date of Oct 7th like me, Take this for what its worth...

Buy the iPhone 5 full price. Keep it till you reach your 14 days (OCT 4th or 5th). Go to your local Verizon wireless store and talk with the manager. Have the manager call the "COOS" department to have them extend the 14 day return policy to 16 or 17 days. Come back 2 days later (Oct 7th) and return the phone. Get a refund in full. Then buy the phone back at discounted price. You may have to pay a $35 restocking fee but the manager can waive it.... This is exactly what I’m going to do.

Wow thats a good idea but probably really time consuming. I think I'll just be patient and wait until the 7th.

Here's my situation:

Nationwide 450 plan $45, unlimited text $10, unlimited data $30.

It's a single line plan. I use between 1.5 and 1.75 GB's now and also have an iPad 2 with a 30 dollar 3GB plan.

with my discount I pay 96 dollars a month.

1. Can I add a line to my plan and use it's subsidy then do the switch and keep the 10 phone in a drawer someplace?

2. Should I just get a share everything plan for the phone and ipad which would be $40 for the phone, $10 for the ipad and $80 for 6GB of data. It would work out with the 22% discount to 101 dollars a month for 1GB more data then I have now and I'd be shocked if I actually go over 6GB combined between the two!

It will be totally worth it :)... You can also call Verizon tomorrow and pre-order the phone from them, but it won’t ship till your upgrade date (Oct 7th) and be guaranteed the phone in case it’s sold out for days...

I doubt you can do a pre order now if your upgrade date is October 7th. He'll be charged the full retail iphone 5 price. I'm in the same situation and i was told this by Verizon. I don't mind waiting the 2 weeks after the release date my only concern is i hope iphone 5 doesn't sell out and we will all be on back orders.

I guess you just need to get lucky and get the right person. I just preordered my two new iPhone 5s on Verizon after they moved up my upgrade date from Oct. 7 to today :) Won't get them until the 28th, but that's OK. Just wanted them before Oct. 1.

Did you call into Verizon or go into a store to have them move up your upgrade date?

Called Verizon yesterday. Rep told me she could do it and would call me back today. She didn't call when she said she would and with preorders slipping, I decided to call. Spoke to a different rep who said no, they can't do it and they NEVER do it. iPhone is an "iconic" device so they are not allowed to move the upgrade date. She said there was no notice on my account for a callback.

No biggie. So then a couple hours later the first rep called me back and said she could do the early upgrade for me. She moved everything up. As she did it, I checked my online account and sure enough, I was eligible. She completed the order over the phone, I got email confirmation and will have a 16gb and 32gb iPhone 5 in my hand by Sept. 28.

So sounds like reps CAN do it, you just need to get the right one. But most won't.

I had a similar experience, Eric8199. My upgrade date is Oct. 10 but I decided to call today and just ask about getting the upgrade now. Denise was able to do it for me. I was concerned about how far out the back orders would be by Oct. 10. My confirmation says "delivery by Oct. 5" so not too soon but a big help to me because we leave for vacation on Oct. 9. I didn't want to wait until we get home to upgrade. She also upgraded my hubby's dumb phone (his upgrade date was Oct. 9) and his phone will be shipped by Monday. (She was fine with upgrading him to an iPhone if I wanted to do that). FYI, I currently have unlimited data but the "Share Everything" plans are a bad deal for us. So I keep my current loyalty plan but am downgraded to 2GB of data. That works for me because I use mostly wifi. Maybe I got the early upgrade because Verizon is glad to get me off unlimited. Whatever, the Verizon rep. I spoke with today couldn't have been more kind and helpful.
