That's wayy too high. My 30$ iPhone data plan also provides me data for my laptop in the form of tethering. 30$, 6 GB. Tethering.

Again, 50$ is a big rip off for data on iPad.
The few of us who got the iPad early enough to get unlimited data are also at $30/month. I don't know if anybody wants to argue that that is or is not a phone data plan. :)

Whether or not Apple switches its majority support to Verizon, whether or not we think about switching, competition is good. :)

Uh ? I was comparing my carrier to US carriers and saying the prices in the US were a rip-off. It is very much Apples to Apples. You're getting ripped off in the states.

Why are you even trying to argue it's not the case ? Again, 50$ for 5 GB on an iPad is a rip off even for a laptop plan. My laptop plan is included in my iPhone plan, I pay a single 30$ a month for all my mobile data and it includes 6 GB.

If you're still too dense to understand : The prices quoted are a rip off compared to the prices I pay and cellular prices in Canada are usually one of the biggest rip-offs there is.

Keep defending those carriers while they keep ripping you off.

No, I'm not too dense and you are extremely rude for saying so. Go back and read, this conversation was originally about comparing Verizon to AT&T rates. You jumped in and threw out an arguement that was out of context and I didn't realize it at first.

And yes, I agree, we pay too much, and I hate our carriers for ripping us off. But it doesn't really matter what you pay in Canada, I don't live there so it has absolutely no bearing on my decision between carriers. I'm not moving to a country that's frozen 6 months out of the year to get a cheaper data rate.

I am a Canadian too --- you are talking about a time-limited promotion deal. Unfair to compare it with their regular price non-special offer.

On the contrary, Apple seems to push the release of a new iPhone each summer whether it's been fully field tested or not. We've seen the results of this, starting with the 3G model's CDMA power ramp goof, ending with the 4G antenna.

(Hmm. Are iPhone models like Star Trek movies used to be? That is, every other one is comparatively bad? - grin)

Verizon also won't allow something that doesn't work right, even if it means a delay.

Yes Verizon is awesome they never screw up anything.

If you think so. Your words, not mine.

I said that Verizon won't approve a device until / unless it's passed all their radio tests. They're far more concerned with keeping a 99.999% uptime of their network, than pushing out a phone just because it's popular.

This in contrast to say, when AT&T apparently didn't do very much WCDMA power control testing on the iPhone 3G, which caused huge dropped call problems on their network until Apple fixed their baseband code.

When I hear about the kinds of horror stories regarding the iPhone I wonder why on earth a product performs worse than a bog standard ZTE phone such as the R6: http://zte.co.nz/main/R6.htm

It only set me back NZ$148 and I certainly don't see the sorts of wailing and gnashing of teeth when it comes to call quality or signal strength. Here I am a couple of years later and the phone is still working well, it has received on firmware update since it's released and I'm sitting pretty happy.

Best news since they first started selling iPhone

I hope the Verizon network handles iPhone 5 better, definitely I'm envious of my Verizon friends for not having to deal with so many dropped calls. I'll switch to Verizon anytime.

Is it currently available for other's to sign up for?

If you know who to talk to yes it is. Cellular companies are very ready to "negotiate" plans.

Anyway, all plans still include tethering, I think it's 2 GB for 30$ currently that's the top plan from my carrier if you don't haggle.

I think that only plans that are above 1 GB can tether.

Official regular priced iPhone plans are good for international comparisons because we can easily find them (even in non-English websites). We are not talking about some MVNO carrier or that someone took a SIM card off a laptop datacard device (and put them in an iphone) since Europe often has cheaper datacard data plans than iphone data plans.

I'm using a regular carrier, one of the big 3 in Canada, Rogers. My SIM card is a standard SIM card, the one that came with the iPhone. All carriers negotiate when it comes time to renew your contract. All rogers data plan include tethering as far as I know, they don't lock it.

So basically no. So not only are you comparing a rate plan from one country to another where there is no abilty for competition, you are comparing a standard published rate plan to some promotional plan that isn't available unless you kiss the right but.

apples to apples.....not

Even your own fellow Canadians are calling you out. Time to give it up.
