Sorry but that's bull ;)

With the current SSD prices still being high compared to normal HDD's, a 120 GB SSD drive for your OS and most used programs is PERFECT

Load your most used data on a Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid 500 GB drive in the Optical Bay slot.

Of course if you can afford it, get a MacBook Pro 17 with 2 internal SSD drives, one for programs and OS and one for your data - but it gets pretty darn expensive, so for people on limited budget, a 120 GB fast SSD for OS and programs is a great idea !

Yup! I have a 120GB + optibay and I could even have used a 90GB and be fine. Also considering WoW and SC2 take up about 45GB themselves, the OS + apps are only using up about 25GB for me. So yeah, boots, app launching, all that is soooo freakin' fast. LOVE IT!

Just curious...how did you move your OS/Applications over? Did you do the CarbonCopyCloner trick and just move your Home Folder back to the hard drive, like they recommend here? :

When I first got the drive I just did an OS install and dragged over applications, try to make it cleaner. Whatever didn't drag over (from Time Machine) correctly I reinstalled.

As for the second time around after pulling it from my 2010, I just put it in, installed the new OS build (for SB processors) right over the existing OS and then everything works like how I left it. EZ

just installed mine Vertex 3. Make sure you reset your pram if you have long bootup issues.

Run any benchmarks? As doubtful as I am, I pulled the trigger/impulse purchase becauseee......

I, coincidentally, was off of work yesterday and saw the 120gb's went on sale for $300 even on newegg around 1PM. I called them asap and by the time I was connected with the representative she told me there were 16/~1000 left in stock! She said it would take 3 more weeks to receive another shipment! AN IMPULSE BUY WOULD BE AN UNDERSTATEMENT. Amazon still has no sign of it and I've checked all of their other vendors - nada.

Best part is they were/are having a 2 day promotion for $25 off any $100+ purchase for "new members only" so I quickly made my roommate an account and got this bad boy for 277 shipped!

Shipped out this morning around 4AM so I should have it tomorrow or Saturday. I'm still waiting on someone (hopefully Anand from Anandtech as he is, IMO, the best reviewer on the planet) to review it - if the specs vary greatly from the 240gb test results and I deem it isn't worth keeping im sure I can get a pretty penny for it on ebay.

Anyone else manage to grab one?

I have one. Will be here tomorrow.

I don't think it will work. The Intel 510 doesn't (I put it in the Optibay).

We shall see. If it does work it will be a miracle. Why didi I buy it then?

Hope springs Eternal :)

I thought about it with that but decided I'm happy with my Vertex 2. I hardly write to my SSD anymore, it's just a read drive now for WoW/SC2 and OS apps. So I used the $25 off on a 750GB WD Black 7200RPM drive for storage.

The reboot and startup time on a "nonfresh" hard drive (that has a bunch of programs installed, bootcamp and etc) is the same of any other good SSD, about 19 seconds flat.

I had to reset the PRAM after I installed the SSD. And comparing to my old SSD, I get this:
