Seller has 96 transaction feedback and listing gets a headline on Macrumors? Maybe I should put my used 5th gen up for $5000 and maybe get a headline as well.

iPod was my first Apple product after the Apple ][. It filled a real need and eventually sucked me into the rest of the Apple product line. Each step wowed me. Happy times. These days it feels like the process is reversing itself as the Mac line is neglected and iPhone design goes in questionable directions.

Damn. And to think I got rid of an older model one a while back. I wonder how much I could have gotten had I held onto it?

I'm sure I've seen this before on eBay, along with the $10K sealed original MacBook Air. Got to love these eBay sellers.

I remember when the iPhone first went on sale, some people put it on eBay for $1 million or more. One person who did that explicitly said in the post that the price was merely clickbait and didn't really expect to get that much.

Also remember how iPhones were originally $599, but then lowered to $399. This made original buyers angry so they got things for a $100 credit.

Interested in how much this finally goes for and wondering what an Apple Watch would potentially fetch in about 25 years.
The way we are going, in 25 years there won't be sufficient oxygen on earth to sustain life so it doesn't really matter.

I have an original iPod, and i have the original box, but its not sealed... Wonder how much it would go for - not that I really want to sell it.

If you bought one and a half ounces of gold for $420 in October 2001 you would have $1920 today. Sealed original iPods are worth way more than gold.

If you had bought $420 of Apple stock in October 2001 you would have $67,872 today.

Apple did have quite a run for a while with new, exciting products. But we didn't expect that roll to continue indefinitely, right? I mean, we can always hope, but let's be realistic. No company will ever just continue to introduce category-leading products year after year.

I had a few iPods back in the day, but not the original. I remember taking a computer troubleshooting/maintenance class at my local community college. We had to do an end of class presentation about a topic of our choosing. I chose to show the class how to install Mac OS X. Used my iPod as an external hard drive, and showed the basic installation steps. A few kids were amazed that I could install- and boot- off an iPod.

The thing is... whatever moron buys this is never going to open it (I'd hope) thinking they can sell it again down the road for even more money. It's easy to re-shrinkwrap stuff. I have an iPod box from 2004 that I could put some rocks in it, rewrap it, and list it as new unopened in original packaging. There's a sucker born every minute.
EverythingApplePro found this out the hard way. Usually there are indications in the quality of the wrap when something has been rewrapped.

Damn I miss those older earbuds. They sounded better but were not as durable than the current generation models.

I know, right? Now it's the same products, with maybe a new CPU, a millimeter or two thinner, or a slightly bigger screen. Nothing too earth shattering. Would love to see Apple bring back a modular Mac Pro in the style of Power Mac G4 or G5. Take off/swing down the side, and can add/replace the drives, RAM, GPU, etc. with a whole bunch of different stuff. Wouldn't mind an iMac with a touchscreen & stylus, a la Microsoft Surface Studio. Bring things PRODUCERS can use, not just consumers.

This was a revolutionary product when it was released. Blending software and hardware together. All the other MP3 player shipped with 3rd party software.

I remember journalists saying this would flop because of the price. Famous last words.

The fun thing about those original iPods was that it was made during a time when battery tech was still improving, and it was relatively easy to take off the back and replace the battery. So, when my original battery died, I replaced it with a new battery that had like 33% more capacity than the original when it was new.

Oh... and never had an issue with the thing randomly resetting. Because back then, Apple actually had proper power management

Pretty damn sure that the battery does not have 10 hours now. It may not even have 10 minutes.
My 2002 20GB iPod, which I used daily until I got the iPhone in 2007, still gets about 1 hour of playtime on its original battery.

It would be worth over $800,000. Apple split twice (2-for-1 and 7-for 1) since 2001.

No it's not. When stocks split, they divide down the historical prices so you do not account for any split.

AAPL was ~$1.31 in October 2001, it's $197.07 today, so that's 150x. 150 x $399 = $60,000.
