GhettoPCS made me LOL. That's hilarious, and so so shady!

Well they're targeting their sales and service to low income areas and people.
They have unlimited talk, text and data for like $40 a month including taxes and fees.
But the problem is their coverage really sucks and even in places they list that they have coverage you can never hold a conversation. I know when someone that uses metropcs calls me cause it keeps cutting in and out and you can never hold a call for longer than a minute. Its very crappy:D

That's so terrible! :p

My network has really good coverage, I wish I could get everything for $40 a month. :D

Interesting.
The question is would you be able to do it even if the IMEI is blacklisted by Verizon?
And what would happen if you try to restore or upgrade the firmware? Would it lock up and you would need to hactivate it to get it to work again?

well, first of all, there is no IEMI :D
it's only blacklisted on verizon's side ... it's not like they sent a command to the phone to brick it. it just tells verizon not to activate it from their end. The ESN doesnt change so i'm guessing updating it will be fine

and as you mentioned, they don't really mind adding your phone to the network as long as they can get more customers. they know that if they don't work with the customers, they'll go elsewhere.

It's true, lol.
Partially because it gives itself a really bad image. The website is über ugly (Purple/orange theme ... it's rather ghetto), the phones suck, the website is annoying to use, the stores literally have 3 chairs and a person behind a table. The phones only work in certain areas and they don't have a 3G network. only a 1xRTT (a la ****) coverage.

That's so terrible! :p

For $40 a month, you get text messages that arrive hours later, and selection of suckish phones, low service and a 2g network. i'm not saying that they suck everywhere, but this is what i tend to see.

I think I'll stick with Telus LOL. :D This MetroPCS sounds like a pretty shady character. Even up here in the great white north I see a few of their commercials here and there when watching an American station and they didn't seem all that ghetto. :p Definitely choosing AT&T if I immigrate to the USA. I personally think I would be happier with Verizon service but I couldn't imagine life with a CDMA phone. Been there, done that. I like to SIM swap. :D

AT&T isn't as bad as everyone makes of it.
I personally dislike CDMA technology in general too but I wouldn't mind unless it was a budget carrier like Virgin Mobile ($35 for unlimited data, text and 300 minutes).

True, I hear you on that.
Not sure how CDMA itunes activations work though.
If its a blacklisted Verizon iphone after you restore or update itunes will probably not activate it. You would have to hactivate it with a JB tool probably or wait till there is one available for the firmware version you want to update or restore to.

ooh, I have no idea about that.
my guess is that the phone will assume that it's not activated or is waiting for activation. like I said, they don't send any command to the phone, they just dont activate it from their end.

I'm not really sure since i dont have a cdma iPhone (nor do I plan to have one :p) but as you mentioned, there's always a work-around. That makes me wonder though, will iTunes only let you restore in iTunes if, and only if, it has valid service? probably not, i'm guessing (such as someone buying a newer phone and wanting to use that old iPhone as an ipod) but like I said, I have no idea.

I'm guessing it would allow you to restore/upgrade as much as you want, you just wouldn't be able to sign that blacklisted phone up for service with Verizon.
