Try to put a case on that thing... it wouldn't even fit in your pocket. Way to go Apple. Always almost there but not just right! Those lines on the back of the phone look horrific by the way. Great design choice. As ugly as the UI of iOS.

They still have really small flip phones you can go to.

My wife had a flip phone. And then a candy bar phone. And then an iPhone 4, and then an iPhone 5. They just keep making them bigger, but I guess if Apple wants to size those customers out of the market for smartphones then ok. It doesn't make any sense to me. iPhones are better than flip phones. Why should smaller people who want a smart phone be forced to use a huge phone when clearly smaller smart phones can and do exist?

I'm saying this as a slightly above average sized guy wanting a bigger iPhone. But I ask why get rid of the smaller ones? They've sold well and would continue to sell well alongside the larger models. Many people argue that the iPad Mini is superior to the Air because it's smaller. So let's just get rid of the iPad Air then right? By this logic that should make sense. Let's just forget about all people who only use their iPad as a couch computer and enjoy the content on a larger screen.

My wife runs her own business, so moving away from a smartphone doesn't make sense. It also doesn't make sense for her to no longer have access to photo stream so that she can easily upload photos of our newborn daughter to both of our parents who live in different states. Or stay in contact with her deaf mother (who is not very computer savvy) via FaceTime using sign language. You're totally right, she should just go back to 2006 because you don't think Apple should continue selling something in a size that is easy for a small woman to use and carry. Something that has revolutionized communication with her disabled mother. Sure. Ok. Right.

I think 4.7" would really be the sweet spot. I've got an HTC one (with a 4.7" screen), and its screen is the limit of what you can comfortably use with one hand.

5.5" would be too large.

The one-hand everyday use is really the issue here. I'm a 6'1" guy and the 4" screen on my iPhone 5 is already borderline too big to reach the buttons in the upper right corner. A 4.7" would be pretty much useless for me - let alone for the millions of females that are using iPhones. Inconsiderate of Apple to put out two new larger phones when the old one is already on the large side (for all the non-geeky, mostly female users out there who are not vocal about their gaming and p*rn needs on internet forums...)

All these negative posts ha - you will be the same baboons ordering and/or standing in line for a phone

And please make sure all of you go for the 4.7 so that I'll have no issues grabbing a 5.5

Looks like there'd be plenty of room to make those top and bottom bezels thinner, while retaining ample space for the home button as well as the symmetrical design (5.5" model). Now I'm really having trouble believing this one.

The top/bottom bezels on that 5.5" dummy are clearly larger than those on the 4.7" dummy and the 5s though. Both the top/bottom and side bezels seem to vary quite a bit in size between all these dummy versions...

Good points. Assuming the 4.7" mockup was based on legitimately leaked CAD files for the actual iPhone 6 design it seems whomever was responsible for the 5.5" mockup simply up-sized the 4.7" for the most part. The bottom bezel of the 5.5" is actually bigger than the one for the 4.7" with more space around the TouchID button for example. There is no reason Apple would do that, especially given their concerns over reach when using with one hand.

Apple needs to rethink those top/bottom bezels. It's unacceptable that the iPhone 6 5.5" will be bigger than Note 3 and LG considering the screen is smaller.

Even the 4.7 is not appealing for me. Still too big to have around me, on me, all day long. The other model is just plain ridiculous in size... LOL

Yes, I know, but, only Apple knows if these leaks are true.

Manufacturers know if these leaks are true as well.

I highly doubt Apple would simply make the bigger phone look the same as the smaller ones without considering the implications. I for one think minimizing the top part of the bezel would make great sense and could look great.

Here are past concept designs that imagined just that.

Hmm, I know plenty of women with small hands that are very happy with their Galaxy S5's and Notes (some switched from using the iPhone 4). You don't have to be a geek to prefer a larger screen... just sayin.

Hint, they don't care if you can reach all corners with one hand. In fact, they carry the 'phablets' in their bags/purses... in that sense they're more likely to care less about a larger size then men who mostly pocket their phones.

100% agree. It's not a battle worth fighting on this forum. I see it said all the time. A phablet iPhone and iPad Mini are two very different devices. Not saying the 5.5" iPhone wouldn't eat into some Mini sales but again, two very different experiences.

Also Apple has said many times in the past that they don't care about cannibalizing their own sales. As long as you buy an Apple product, they win.

It might it might, but I think there are going to be a lot of people that love that happy medium. A big phone that works almost like a tablet and a small tablet that's small enough to actually take everywhere with you.

Really, for those moments when you need to run tablet software, the iPad mini will be there.

Unless of course Apple makes the iPhone 6 run tablet optimized apps, which would be really nice.

I don't know about that, but I know that for people like me anything that prohibits one hand operation during our busy days is useless.

People like everyone though, most folks that use the Note series can use it with one hand.

I seem to recall a leak that didn't come true a couple years back. Cost some Chinese case manufacturers a fair deal in useless - was it wedge-shaped? - cases.

Uummm exactly . That was a CASE not a physical mockup .

Not trying to be a dikc Lol, but there has never been a physical mockup of a next gen iPhone that didn't come to fruition .

Cases and renders to not equal physical mockups of an actual iPhone .

4.7" I have bought into.

5.5", I still can't buy into. If we see it I just don't view Apple making something that has a smaller screen than a Note actually bigger than a Note.

Though the weird thing is: if they do make a 5.5" device knowing me I'd actually buy it. Yes, I even admitted it.

I highly doubt that the bezel will be thinner. This rumor has been around for years and the width of the bezel has not decreased at all since 3G, I believe. I don't see them changing it for the 6, either.

As for the size comparison to the SS Note 3, I'm sure the Note 3 is a little wider than the 5.5" iPhone 6. iPhones will always be taller than comparable screen sized phones because of the screen proportions, but it will almost always be skinnier in terms of width, as well for the same reason.

In the end, if you are carrying around a phablet, does it make that much difference if it's taller/wider than another device? You are still going to need a big pocket or a purse to carry it. I'm pretty sure nobody will abandon the 5.5" iPhone 6 because it's a little taller than the Note 3. Android people will always want an Android device and iOS people will always want an iOS device. The two OS's are pretty much the same at this point and it's just about personal preferences now.

I think yes, it matters. If the device has unncessary bezel space, it is going to be that more difficult to use it. Even for simple things like answering a call with one hand. The difference between having .5" to for a call button, and 1" is huge.

Same could be said for the "chin" on the iMac...but it's been the same height for 5 years. Apple sometimes views the face of it's products as "iconic" and won't change.

Except, you don't hold an iMac or put it in your pocket, so the size of the bezel when it comes to a phone... Matters...

Other people and myself have enough to shove into our pants already with out a BIG ass phone being there too.

So.. you put THAT in your pocket? Weird.

Also, WTF is with the obsession with using your phone with one hand?! I never see anyone using one hand on their phone. Androids, iPhones, Windows phones.. none. I don't get why people care about that.

IMHO, the 5 is small.
I do. I've ditched cases long ago.

I realized why get an iPhone to cover it with some trashy looking case. I buy an iPhone for what it is.

until you get bumped or slip and it drops, banging the crap out of the corner. sorry but nobody is impervious to accidents, they happen and are called accidents for a reason. my case has prevented replacement. necessary evil...just like seatbelts.
