Just after using the SG3, the iphone browsing experience is so lacking. Seems like the SG3 is like 2 steps ahead of the iphone in everything. I honestly have to resize every website on my iphone 4s, whereas the SG3 was already readable. Don't believe, just try it out with a buddy who owns one.

I will get the iphone 5 just like every other apple junkie here, but I wish we could get the SG3 type phone for higher tech people. Iphone file system and everything is so dumbed down. Give me a Iphone 5 PRO.. with a 4.5 inch screen. That's all i'm asking for. I'll bet my house that a 4.5 inch version will out sell the 4inch iphone version we're getting.

The SG3 really is an amazing phone.

Something shady about the Macrumors iPhone 5 video

Dear MacRumors:
There may be something shady regarding the iPhone 5 video you posted.

MacRumors tends to be a bit more conservative when it comes to posting rumors (as opposed to several other Apple rumors sites). But to spend big $$ to create a heavily produced video on a rumor, seems very unlike MacRumors.

MacRumors has acknowledged in the past that Apple has asked them not to post certain things. In this industry, the reward for complying with withholding a story is a scoop or insider info later on.

Also, we have had more leaks on this iPhone 5 than any other Apple device in history. In the past, Apple attorneys would send out cease and desist letters to outlets posting spyshots or leaked parts and they'd be yanked off the internet. There has been NO such effort this time around.

Is it possible Apple is behind some of these leaks?
Could Apple have handed MacRumors this video?

When was the last time Apple sent such a letter? I can only remember them asking for a prototype of the iPhone 4 - in 2010 - but I can't remember them asking to take articles down.

Also, I believe anyone can make such videos as long as you have the knowledge (which a lot of people have - because lots of people find editing videos fun) and the right programs (which basically anyone can download).

It's a 4 inch diagonal HD 16:9 screen. It is no different than any Android 4" HD screen. Go to a store and compare the sizes. If you enjoyed a 4 inch Android, this iPhone 5 will be the same width and height.

Why all the complaints? It's the logical next step HD display. Except that it will higher pixel density than any other 4" HD screen out there (Retina quality). And even some 4.3 and 4.5 screens.

HD movies will look gorgeous on this 640 x 1137 device. I'm ready to see this phone.

Droid 3
Display Type: LCD (Color TFT/TFD)
Resolution: 540 x 960 pixels
4" diagonal

Galaxy s3
Display Type: OLED (Full-Color)
Resolution: 720 x 1280 pixels
4.8" diagonal
Colors: 16.7 million (24-bit)
Samsung Super AMOLED

Razr maxx
Display Type: OLED (Full-Color)
Resolution: 540 x 960 pixels
4.3" diagonal
Super AMOLED

Galaxy nexus
Display Type: OLED (Full-Color)
Resolution: 720 x 1280 pixels
4.7" diagonal
Colors: 16.7 million (24-bit)
Samsung Super AMOLED

Htc nexus one
Display Type: OLED (Full-Color)
Resolution: 480 x 800 pixels
3.7" diagonal
Colors: 65,536 (16-bit)

Galaxy s 2 skyrocket
Display Type: OLED (Full-Color)
Resolution: 480 x 800 pixels
4.5" diagonal
Samsung Super AMOLED Plus

Exactly. A 4" screen phone with 720p would give no value to the consumer at all, more resolution at that size just isn't visible to the human eye.

Once Apple makes the move to a 16:9 aspect ratio, they may give us a bigger iPhone 6 in 2013. I have a question for you geeks: What would be the screen size of a 1280x720 iphone at retina display DPI ?

No, I think its more or less it's analogous to having an addiction.

Drug users keep taking drugs to have that same 'first time' feeling. They are expecting Apple to do another 'wow' feature......stupid I know. Considering the iPod virtually hasn't changed much since it's intro. It EVOVLED. But didn't radically change.

The iPod? Wait, from the first gen to the Touch? I would call that a pretty radical change.

Am I the only one who hates this new iPhone? In my opinion the 4" just looks awful and is not very probable. Think I'll be holding onto my 4S for a while yet.

Why wouldn't you hold on to your 4S anyway? You wouldn't even be eligible for an upgrade for another year. I think this new iPhone is intended for people upgrading from the 4 or are new to the iPhone. I'm sure there will be some new feature that the 4S will not have, but as of right now, all the announced features of iOS 6 are available for the 4S.

these threads get so long...

it would sure be easier to comment on other posts if macrumors offered a conversation view as an alternative to the chronological view.

is that possible??

You haters remind me of

You haters remind me of my 99 year old mother in law. The family pitched in and got her a new wide screen TV for her birthday and she complained it was too wide. lol She liked the narrow 4.3 ratio and did not like the the newer 16.9 ratio flat panel TV's use today.

Me? I can't wait for the iPhone 5.

Apple doesn't do that anymore, really. They didn't pull the iPhone 4 leaks from Gizmodo, nor really any after that. Pulling images tells everyone that they're real.

Higher tech people (like me) have computers and iPads. No need for a larger screen on or tinkering around with a phone.

I think that the majority of people are already using the phone with two hands, I find it hard to operate in one hand so for me it would make no difference if the phone would be wider.
I bought the 3GS just 1 month ago(good price) and now I wouldn't mind a wider phone, the iPhone is in fact too small for quite a few things, browsing for instance is awful, way too small.
But, it's still very much useful and better than android which I used before.

Of course, when 2 hands are available people often use them both. You're completely missing the point. When you only have one hand available, the iPhone is still very useable. Phone with larger screens? Not so much. My buddy can't reach across the screen of his S3 to hit buttons on the far side. That would annoy the crap out of me to no end!

Apple hasn't sent a C&D for a parts leak in longer than I can remember. They only sent them out for full prototype leaks. And MR has commissioned/built a couple of professional media pieces in the past. This isn't the first. It may be the nicest.

Not when You use it in landscape mode...

You cannot use the twitter app in landscape anyway. And most people I know type with the portrait keyboard anyway

. For reading and taking in content having a taller screen is generally better on a phone. If watching video you just turn it sideways. ;)

Funny how everyone is saying this screen will change everything. Nothing new about this screen really. Just doing what's being done that's all.

Do you have a neighbor named Everyone? The only people I've seen make that comment were complaining about the effects on the developers.

I don't care.

I don't care about this screen. I'm looking forward to how Apple will hobble my perfectly good 4S. MY phone is awesome and I don't feel the need to upgrade. I feel Apple's getting the lube warmed up and ready to apply right now.

Aha. Now I see...

...is the US really that far behind? I mean your extensive list only shows one device (Galaxy 3) I consider worth mentioning in the current Android realm.

Now I understand why you think the purported iPhone is still on par

It is very easy for people to get confused about 720p TV resolutions and displays, aspect ratios, etc.

720p (horizontal lines) and 1080i are the max resolution allowed with current TV formats. It's fixed regardless of TV size (23" or 60" for example). An image on a 55" 720p TV screen will look much worse, at the same viewing distance as the phone' display, and in general, worse overall too.

No so with phone displays.

1. If you wish to get to Retinal quality(meaning max that the eye can see), first look at pixel density, ppi. Apple's sit at 326ppi. 300 is okay too. But it must remain fixed regardless of screen size.

2. Then focus on aspect ratio. If you want current HD, that is 16:9 ratios.

3. Then chose the screen diagonal and make the display to match.

Getting 720 is not important for phone display quality,as it is a limited TV resolution format.

Lol, while it's nice of you to try to clarify, but you gotta make sure you're giving out the right info. There is no 780p, and the highest tv format right now is 1080p. ;) It's either 1920x1080, or a scaled proportion of that ratio to 1280x720p. P means every horizontal line of what's displayed is actual image data, "i" is interlaced, meaning every other line is actual image data.

If the screen was wider taller I'd have interest but I have an Android phone that has that tall screen thing and I hate it. I'm disappointed with the current direction if this is indeed the new phone. And I'm not interested in what Android has to offer so I won't be switching but Apple will figure out a way for us to "Forceable Upgrade". That you can count on.
