I want the full video, with the truly bizarre intro that made Tim jokingly say something like "if i knew what i was following i wouldn't have agreed"

I'm pretty sure Cook was humbly joking that when he first joined, he had no idea that he would end up succeeding Steve Jobs as CEO.Maybe I need to see the clip but at first glance it doesn't seem bizarre at all.

I'd love to hear what you can do different on a Tablet if you're not "encumbered" by legacy.

Imagine that the iPad was popularized in 1984 and we've been using tablets for the past 28 years. Then in 2010, Company X reveals the "Personal Computer". It's crunches high-end graphics very fast and has tons of storage. They have wonderful mechanical keyboards that make it super easy to type.

But 99% of them don't do touch - you need to use a "Mouse" or "trackpad" to indirectly manipulate your content. You can't really use them in one hand - they're shaped like typewriters, so you need to put them on a desk. They get super hot, so it's not really a great idea to hold them in your hand or on your lap. They're also 3 times thicker and 2-5 times heavier than an iPad, so it's not very easy to relax with one or share with a friend. Also, the battery only lasts 3 or 4 hours, rather than 10.

What would your impression of the "personal computer" be if history happened backwards? The PC is great in some things, not so great in others. That's what Cook means by being free of the PC legacy. If you compare them on their own merits, the iPad and "computer" are just different. If you're stuck comparing it negatively to all the things it doesn't do vis-a-vis the PC, then of course you'll come away with a negative impression.

I'll present the question more simply for your brain to digest. Apple in decline leaves a billion dollar plus vacuum.

What does your brain see filling that vacuum during Apple's downfall?

You should read the comments you quote before you comment on them and look foolish. Try not insulting people and make an effort to have an adult conversation.

Nobody has claimed Apple would implode which would probably be needed to produce a vacuum.

I agree wholeheartedly - Kara Swisher is an absolutely obnoxious and intellectually-limited character who adds NOTHING to the discussions, rather taking away precious time that could be used for asking REALLY interesting questions...it's in times like this that I find it hard to understand how some people get to those prominent media positions...not that Walt is a very competent interviewer either.

I particularly noticed this when they interviewed SJ and BG together - a UNIQUE occasion which could have been used to ask way better questions than what was done back then. What a waste of time.

THANK YOU!!!! I have been thinking the same thing for years. I find myself yelling at my computer "Shut up!!!!" when she speaks and interrupts an interesting conversation.

Charisma is highly overrated. Steve Job's was the exception, not the rule.

Most charismatic CEO's are nothing more than glorified salespeople, and not very good salespeople at that, when you consider the lackluster performance of the companies that they lead.

True fact. A challenge to the people who down-voted that post, give us an example of why most charismatic CEO's are not just glorified salespeople - I'm interested to know.

I've gotta say that I wish people would stop comparing Apple CEO's... comparing their names should give you a hint - yep, they're completely different! Wow!

Flash Video Again

Please tell me why a site (I really do love) about mac products would put video in flash when over 50% of these products do not support flash?

Ah sorry, I was referring to the bizarre procession on-stage at D10 with Jane Lynch and a bunch of random malarky beforehand!

Zero Charisma, professional manager type person.

I can think of a better name to sum him up.

iRobot :D

Well the vast majority of proper computers around the world play back flash fine, so perhaps they cater for the masses?
