Woah! Totally sorry... you never know who you are talking to on this forum.
1983? Thats a little longer than me when I made the switch. I'm a newbie for a reason... 99/00 or so... G3 blue and white... G4 DP 1ghz waiting for 12" now to add to the family! ;) :D
No problem. I'm a Mac loyalist for life ... Unless, of course, Bill Gates buys Apple ... then I might have to reconsider ... Unless, of course, it is because he finally sees that OSX is a better System and replaces Windows, completely, with it. :D

Gatesy buying Apple... the day I stop using computers altogether, and I go out to the hills and live in a cave!

Have you seen the podcast by MacTV where they demolish Gates'? It's worth while... I think it's podcast #51 or #52.

Are we nearly there yet!? :D :D

I really have to say, I could give a rat's gold-plated *** about any new iPods comming out. I just want to know if I need to run into the apple store and attempt to swap my Powerbook that I bought 14 days ago to the day for a Dual-Core if they even exist.

I do not want to have been screwed over by buying two of these things (one for me and one for my son) with a new unit comming out at the same price as the two 17" that I bought that now have double the processor speed.

Why on earth did you buy 2 machines immediately before an event like this?

If I had seen any information saying that these would be obscenely outdated by the time that I walked out the front door, than I wouldn't have.

I had a few Toshibas that I had for the past couple years that finally died on me and I needed something new.

Plus, I was told buy the salesman at the Apple Store that if for any reason I wanted to return them, I had 14 days to do so.

In the process, I thought... Hey, I have been a long time Linux user and have been wanting to try out OSX for quite some time. If I love it, than I will keep them. If not, and they prove to be great machines, then I will keep them and run Linux. If I dispise them with a passion, then I will return them.

I did not consider If I buy them and two weeks from now something comes out that is infinitely better, then I will be screwed unless I can trade-up to the latest one (which I should be able to do with the whole 14 day return policy thing.

Now THAT would be a surprise "one more thing." I don't see it happening, but it would be unexpected.

Re dual-core PowerBooks--sounds unlikely. I'd expect dual core desktops and a lesser update to the PBs.

I also don't think you'll be allowed to trade the used units in (unless the salesman is going to make an exception for you). BUT you should have price protection by Apple's policy: the price of the old models should drop, and then you can get a credit. So you keep the older model, but pay less for it. I'm not sure what the time limit is... 15 or 30 days I want to say.

Hmm..... you'd think they'd use English on the au store.

Meanwhile - that's a very familiar flag graphic.....

Ah projectle...welcome to the intrique that is Apple. I'm a relatively recent switcher, and I had no idea whatsoever that all of this sort of stuff accompanied new product releases.

I guess the most important question is...are you enjoying your Lapzilla? I have had mine for 1.5 years and adore the darn thing.

I am new to all of this, but I would be shocked if they did anything mind-blowing to the PB line today. If you think you would be seriously ticked if a new upgrade came out in the next week...return the current one and grab the next when it is available.

One thing for certain, buying the last version of the PPC 17" PB is a good move...tried, tested and a great tool.

good luck,

JT

Wow, this picture looks quite legit if the ipods are made in china.

The chinese titles show from my limited understanding of chinese "music, photos, videos, extras..."!

Hopefully we'll see a shiny new black ipod shuffle the death of the U2 ipod and the ability to download last weeks network tv programs. I don't want to ever have to use my Tivo or VCR again. .99 - 1.99 for a network download seems about right. Lost, Desperate Housewifes,Alias...Night Stalker. Hopefully the video enabled

Well... I didn't do to bad though I really don't understand where the black ipod shuffle went???
