It's all in the marketing and business planning. Of course everything do has to be kept secret, every company does that. Apple just does it better.

Business is like the cold war, if the Russians know you're working on the B-2 spirit before you even finish the plane, by the time it's out they'll have a counter to it.

If they announced that updated models were coming soon, then nobody would buy the current models. They would all* wait until the new models came out, and Apple would be stuck with inventory. I think Apple considers this more important that the "cold war" angle.

*Ok, not all. Some wouldn't hear the news. A few would hear but wouldn't care. But many would hold off.

but better it is not Ion based mac mini

It's a real possibility, unfortunately.

It's just the sort of thing Apple might do. What was encouraging about Monthy's original report (though there's no visual evidence) is that he indicated it would be Core 2 Duo.

What ever happened to him, he's been awfully quiet lately.

Apple ninja's maybe? , ....or in the tea room at Cupertino celebrating a job well done ?

I agree......

I'd like for Apple to announce a refresh or kill it off entirely so I can commit to either a new mini or iMac.

I've been wanting to upgrade for nearly 6 months! I have a perfectly fine 23" Apple LCD and a G4 Mac Mini which works fine. The only reason I want to update is to have more RAM and an Intel Processor. The only other thing on my wish-list is FW 800 (or eSATA).

I've been saying this for ages that Apple should release a "Mac". This could be a scaled down mac pro. How many of use DON'T need 32 GB RAM, Or DON'T need 3 PCI slots, and DON'T need multiple Optical Drives and DON'T need the latest, fast, and most expensive processors (give us the option to purchase cheaper processors).

But we DO want room for two hard drives, we DO want full 3.5 drives that we can easily replace and we DO want to be able to easily update the graphics card and we DO want more than 4 GB RAM (is four slots asking to much?).

The financial and technological gap between the iMac & Mac Pro needs to be filled. (Remember the 9600 vs the 8600......that's what we need)

Hurry up Apple.

My 2c

Very true and Very well put/explained.
The gap definatley needs to be filled. A small form powerful mac pro without the expensive stuff and over the top stuff.

I would be very happy if Apple comes along giving the following product updates. I think most gaps will be filled and most people would be happy too.

Word to the dreamers out there: THIS GUY has the right mindset.

Apple TV - $229

Apple TV - $329

Quite plausible. I was going to say Atom/Ion combo so that we'd get cleaner 1080p support.

Aaand he trips over himself. :p It's not Bloomfield, it's Gainestown. And there is no indication of Blu-ray... ANY time soon.

Wow... Um, only one thing: ONLY a 9400? I don't think so. I'd bet either the 9400M+9600M combo for all of them, or the 94/96 for the 20" and the 9400M+GTX120 for the 24".

You could have ended SO well by leaving it at the iMac. Wishful thinking to the extreme.

Though when I'm senior vice president of industrial design, I'll make the xMac. I swear to you all.

Now, I just have to work on the getting there part.

Very, very good predictions. Let us hope that this Mac Mini, iMac, and Apple TV come to fruition.

There's no point in having both DVI and HDMI ports. They're the same video signal. You can get one from the other.

Yes I agree with you, Atom/Ion combo. Now I see it better I think for marketing purposes $229 Apple TV model will come out with 120MB HD instead of 160MB.

There is a point! For easier connection to both computer displays and big flat screens in case of HTPC use.

You mean HDCP right ? ;)

any new iMac or Mac Mini is going to have mini-displayport. The Mac Pro will have standard size displayport.

The displayport standard includes HDCP btw.

No I mean HTPC (Home Theater Personal Computer). In other words, computer in your living room.

Gotcha. Thought you were referring to digital rights.

I cant see Apple using DVI much more anymore since they seem to be moving towards displayport.

Maybe a displayport or even two. But I think Apple is moving away from DVI.

Those specs also look sensible to me.

There's a part of me thinking 9400M for the 20" and 9600M (9800M BTO) for the 24" just because it's a nice progression. :p In any case I think at least one iMac will just have the 9400M; the low-end 20" has an HD 2400 (not integrated, but still a "400"). If Apple releases a $999 iMac like the old GMA 950 model, then we'll definitely see 9400M.

DVI-HDMI cable + audio cable! It isn't that hard but just 1 HDMI cable is easier.;)

Until you want to use a set of speakers that aren't the crappy ones built into your TV.

(This is one of my biggest frustrations with my XBox 360-- I've got a HDMI cable connected to the TV, and then I have to use one of the normal AV cables with optical to connect to my receiver. But, oh, wait, if you're using both the AV and HDMI ports it gets confused whenever you switch inputs on the TV and it reboots!)

Sorry, I'm just not sold on the AUDIO+VIDEO IN ONE CABLE ITSSS SO EASY koolaid.

When you don’t have great sound expectations, TV speakers are just fine. When you have such a great expectetions, most modern hi-end home theater systems use AV receivers with HDMI input/outputs. HDMI connection for home theater use is always the best and easiest way to go.

Bueller? Bueller?

I find it quite odd that these threads were filled with pages and pages of people crying fake and exhibiting their photographic analysis skills, which is their right to do.

But today there is no one really saying, 'Congrats man, I was wrong.' Where are the 20 pages of that?

Humans are funny, that's for sure.

People, including me, are just shocked by how... 'boring' the updates were. I know I was looking forward to some cool changes, all just some small updates and changes in the hardware to bring it a bit more up to date... Which wouldn't have been a problem but the prices ahev gone up by a fair amount.

But ya your right about the people claiming they know everything about photography and saying the photos are fake... No one wants to believe in a let down update from the best computer company...

Agreed lol - it was funny watching people come out with some of the stuff

LOL! the photoshop analysts were the best ones. And then there were the ones that were saying someone custom made a back piece for an old mini just to shoot the video LOL!! :D they are all too busy trying to get their tails out from between their legs to post in this thread.
