I think all this is a reaction to how shockingly unique Indiana culture is. A lot of people dont know how quirky that specific state is. I would describe it as everyone thinks its "cool to be bad" but they take it to a over-the-top degree that comes off corny to anyone else. But there, in their world, its normal, even cool.
So we can't judge them, nor can we judge those that judge us. To say that as Americans we are all one way or another is the onus of those judging us in the first place; when as Americans we pride ourselves on being a variety of things, all blessings of freedom.
You have to understand that thats just the way Indiana culture is. The same way California or New York or Chicago or Florida might have their own cultural quirks, what defines Indiana is a proud identity of counterculture. That is the beauty of these United States is there is something of everything in different places and its all about the variety. Variety is what defines US.
Some of us are ghetto, some of us are pompous, some of us are self righteous, but of all of us are human and we should all respect each others differences and wish success and happiness upon our fellow man despite our differences.
Even if that annoying lady thought it was wayyy too cool that it was the iPhone and acted like all of a sudden shes in a new class in society or something--- forgive her.
We are all just the totality of our socially transmitted behaviour patterns, morals, values, arts, beliefs, institutions, and all other products of human work and thought.
Lets all be positive to one another and forgive and not judge each other, and use that as an example to send out to other nations who might ignorantly judge us, so they may learn from it and spread positivity to future generations.
Sending out positive vibes ))))))))))))))))))))))))))
