I noticed that the new magic-accessories all require Mac OS X 10.11.
I will be interested to know how hard this requirement is. Will they truly not work with older versions of Mac OS X or will they work as the previous generation of BlueTooth accessories did, just without the new features (like force-touch, which probably requires a device driver that Apple isn't going to ship for older versions of the OS.)
Do people really eat through lightening cables that quickly? I have had all of mine since the release day of the 5s. Zero issues. I must be an anomaly...
I'm still using the original Lightening cables that came with my phone (about 1.5 years old now.) I've bought several more so I can plug it in to my computer, car, chargers, etc. without transporting them, but I haven't had any break.
My daughter, on the other hand, abuses her cables. They rarely last longer than 2 months. Her phone is always attached to an external battery brick. When she uses the phone, she rests it on the table, resting it on the pinched end of the cable. And when she puts it away, the cable (and battery brick) is wrapped tightly around it and shoved into a backpack. And when I tell her not to abuse her equipment like that, she gets all indignant and denies that she's doing anything wrong. Oh the joys of being the parent of a teenager....
Monoprice for lightning cables. Less expensive and substantially more durable.
I've been buying Anker cables from Amazon. When purchased in
2-packs, they're not too expensive ($6.50 each.) Considering the rate my daughter burns through them, that's really important. (I've seen cheaper ones available, but none with MFi certification and good reviews.)
