But then I read about it being able to charge for 9 hours of use from 2 very small minutes. That to me is a great result. And if you think about the time it takes to open the battery slot on the original magic mouse when the batteries have drained, get replacement AA batteries from the desk draw (for me, anyway), then replace the batteries, clip the battery slot back in - that's about a minute or thereabouts.

That 1-2 minutes swapping AA's between the mouse and the charger only has to be done once every month or two! A 2-minute fast charge becomes annoying if you end up doing it day after day. Honestly, who's going to be proactively remembering to give their mouse a full overnight charge?!

Charging with lightning cables makes sense for a small device like the new Apple remote. But when it comes to the Apple Mouse and Keyboard, they broke something that didn't need fixing.

I understand about the mouse, but for the trackpad and keyboard I think it's a different story. I maybe wrong but I assume you can still use the trackpad and keyboard while charging. If only they put the lightning port at the end of the mouse so you can still use it while charging. I guess they design it that way so people will buy the trackpad as well.

Yes you can still use the trackpad when charging. In fact, it'll work entirely over the lightning cable instead of bluetooth (first thing I did because you can also pair it via the cable).

I received my magic mouse 2 yesterday via fedex. Very cool, it came with a lightning cable and to pair, just plug it into the mac with the lightning cable and presto, it is paired. I bought this to use with my MBA... (wonder about the new macbook)
anyway, as expected it works smooth as glass, and it feels just like it is connected with a wire. Instant recognition by the computer.
I also have a magic mouse 1 on my Mac Mini, and it works just like the MM2 - it feels just like it is connected with a wire. Instant recognition by that computer.
So, the rechargeable aspect is the ONLY difference between the two so far as real world use. They are both fantastic devices, just one has replaceable batteries and the other one doesn't. The difference in the bluetooth versions is not seeable. (is that a word?)

I'm glad he covered the cons of the Magic Mouse in the video. I stopped using the first generation because it needs better tracking, was uncomfortable and easy to accidentally scroll. I'm a little sad they are all still issues in the MM2, but I guess it saves me $79.

No Yosemite support o_O
There might be minimal support. Jason Snell tested the Magic Trackpad 2. He found that:
  • The trackpad and keyboard work as wired devices via their USB-Lightning cables. This was confirmed by disabling BlueTooth on the Mac.
  • One older Mac (2009 iMac) running Yosemite couldn't work with the Magic Trackpad 2 at all. Completely unrecognized. Can't pair over USB. Can't manually pair via BlueTooth. After upgrading to ElCap, it worked fine.
  • Another Mac (2009 MacBook Pro) running Mavericks did have minimal support. It worked as a wired device, but only for the most basic gestures - single clicks and standard cursor movement.

Of course, for this level of support, you'd be better off using other products.

Anyone else notice how much better the magic mouse 2 is? I don't know if ti's the new bluetooth but there is practically no lag or delay. I'm so happy. Thought it was a OSX issue, but this thing rocks now.
