This is an Apple PR move. They know this movie is going to be popular, and now even more so. The more I see this type of stuff I wonder if they even care about Steve at all, and just don't want it hurting the brand.

And I said this is another post, why is it so hard to reconcile that a person responsible for so many great things could also have personal flaws. I'm surprised so many of you are unable to see anything but black and white.

Seriously? This man was iconic. Not supporting him would be foolish.

I have no idea if the movies are accurate or not. I'm not going to see them for biographical info.

But, if this is the "softer" side of someone, it kid of falls flat. Thanking your team shouldn't be your softer side; it's what is expected.

I don't know if this video was sent out by Apple - I suspect not. But if it was, I'd stay away from this type of shenanigans.

In 6th grade I knew I wanted to work with computers as my career because I enjoyed using and learning with the Mac. 10.1 had just been released.

I started watching Apple Keynote events and was mesmerized by Jobs ability to turn small things into big things. He quickly became an inspiration. My final year of college, he passed away and I was sad to know that we'll never get a SJ keynote and that Apple would never be the same.

It sucked to see how many people recalled SJ as being a jerk and how he treated his family and friends. At first I didn't believe it but I quickly realized that even though SJ was bright, it didn't mean he was always a nice guy.

I strive to be revolutionary like SJ but to also be compassionate. I miss SJ but I'm glad we had the chance to marvel in his great work.

This video proves jack.
I haven't met the guy and the utter most of you have neither.
Therefore we mustn't judge him being a good or a bad guy.
I do however understand that people close to him choose to defend him. There was an era, long time ago, where it was common to remember the dead for the good things they did. It was considered a tradition to celebrate the ones that left us. Nowadays sadly there is very little left of that tradition.

Softer side?!??

That's like admitting someone is a jerk most of the time.

Because that's the way he's always portrayed. Because for some reason people love to see successful people at their worst. I guess it makes insecure people feel better about themselves or something.

Sure seems like these movies and books are overemphasizing his personal flaws though.

Yea, but for 2 reasons: #1 It's a part of his life the general public is not aware of, and #2 It makes for a more compelling story. I think it's safe to say, every media outlet, tech website, etc. fawns over Jobs the innovator, Jobs the visionary. Which is all deserving. But if he made some poor choices in life, and a storyteller wants to focus on that, there is nothing wrong with it.

I know, I thought the same thing. I really don't get the damage control attitude Tim and Apple are taking toward this. It seems like a "protect the brand" thing, and less defending their friend. A simple comment of "hey, I did't know him to be like that" would suffice as a personal anecdote to the contrary.

Yeah. Ever since The Sopranos blew up and spawned Six Feet Under, Breaking Bad, etc... the entertainment industry discovered that us drooling plebs living our sorry lives on our couches should be able to relate to grotesquely flawed characters on TV, Books, and Film, and being "relatable" is the easiest way to appeal to the shlubs without offending us. So, they went 100% overboard and now it's flaws flaws flaws flaws flaws and nothing but flaws. When it's a real persons life they're framing though, it just comes off like trashing them and character assassination.

Hollywood studios, clueless as usual, & peddling trash.

Steve Jobs, like most other people, had both a good side and a bad side. The sensible people already knew that.

But that's not gonna stop the rabid haters from jumping on this thread and insisting that he was ALL BAD. They hate him so much, it's like SJ literally peed on their cornflakes at some point in the past.

This video adds nothing new. How else was he supposed to talk when rallying the troops? He was a charismatic man, we know this. We've seen videos like this many times. He was also a complicated man who could behave drastically differently in the given circumstance. He could be brilliant and inspiring, but he could also be a major, major ass. The fact that this video is news is worrying for modern journalism.
Well, it is pretty obvious this was a PR move from Apple's side aimed to counter the harsher side of Jobs portrayed in the about to be released Sorkin (and Boyle) movie.

Nice leak, Apple. Well played.

I worked with Jobs many times, there is nothing black and white about him. He could be kind and caring and he could be a raving jerk and everything in between. Sometimes he was so lost in his own thoughts he was silent and you could think made of stone. He could be very funny too, if he was in the mood.

I think this could describe any of us. Humans are not one dimensional, even though we all have a tendency to categorize them as such.

So Jobs is talking to a group of people shows his softer side? How about we find some previously unreleased video of Jobs at work, in a situation that pushes his patience to the max and see how his style was? Let us see, then, how soft he was.

In all honesty, I don't care that he was a brash, impatient dick. That's what drove Apple to success. Apple doesn't have to cover that up for me to accept that flaw in his character.

This is fluff Apple put out to counter the current revelation that Jobs wasnt always a "saint". It's ok Apple. Steve wasn't perfect and he's not a deity.

I totally agree. I just saw the movie and I loved it. So what, he was human. It's not Steve's fault that humans are defective. I like how they portrayed him as being humbled at the end and finally realizing he was wrong in certain ways. Because the message I took away is that Jobs' greatest strength was that he learned from his mistakes. It's well known he was an ******* to people, but it's hard to feel sorry for people who are getting rich while someone is being an ******* to them. Who hasn't had an ******* boss, anyway? That's why Aaron had to work in Lisa, because you could feel sorry for her.
