$999 - 16gb I can see it now

And how about all that "shut up and take my money" and similar? That comes right with it you know. The list of 20-30 tangible reasons why pretty much everyone needs one of these has not been formalized just yet because "we" generally believe this is still too much rumor. However, let the rumors pile up and/or let Apple roll this out and the forces will rally around building a rich list of why everyone must have one of these.

"It's obviously bigger than all the iPhones available right now..." but not so obvious as to not need to state this? #thankyoucaptainobvious

Were you not around for what seemed like 5000 posts imagining the then-rumored iPhone 6+ being about equal to the size of the iPad Mini? Around here, if you don't clearly show the size differences, imaginations will run wild (and even when people posted tangible size comparisons, that rumor persisted... along with how the world would need new pants with bigger pockets and men would need man-purses, both of which I'm still looking for in the wild).

I would imagine most don't go looking for defects, but notice them accidentally and then look them up to see if others are having the issue, as well as how to potentially fix them.

True. For me at least my only issues with iPad Air 2 are software related.

Re: Video Shows Size of 12.2-Inch 'iPad Air Plus' Mockup Next to iPhones, iPads, and

The most important thing that I can see is iPad Pro's webcam (front facing). I am confused whether there will be a high resolution snapper so as I could get the high quality video chat.

Jesus people.

Just because you scale up the screen, there is no reason to scale up the border /bezel also.

I know Apple loves it's BIG Bezels, but really, if Mr Ive scales up the bezel at the same time he does the screen he needs shooting on the spot.

At this rate, if Apple ever did make a large screen TV It would probably have a good 4" to 6" bezel around it!

So yes. Please bring on larger screen sizes of Tablets, but for the love of god, start to scale down on the bezels.

I don't know about tons but at the very least, pressing from behind can cause distortion. Not a dealbreaker for me but still a sign in my opinion that the thing is pointlessly thin.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1808921/

I tried at least 4-5 models in-store before I purchased on Friday. You have to apply an absurd amount of pressure for it to distort.

I use mine every day by holding with one hand on either the right side or left, never seen the screen distort. Not saying that there probably aren't iPads that are defective, but like the bending thing, this forum is a complaining-about-problems magnet. One thread on an enthusiasts forum vs the millions of iPads in the wild are two different things.

If it runs plain Jane iPad ios then I don't get it either. Possibly a hybrid OS to take advantage of the screen realestste then maybe I guess I can see it.

But a hybrid OS opens up a whole other topic on its own ?

It has to perform closer to a Mac and less than a beefed up iPad imo.

Just what I was thinking. They either have to really beef up iOS here, to somewhat of a hybrid, or at least have the ability to switch between iOS and OSX etc.

Not so much as mobile device but for example for my wife while sitting on the couch with Twitter or FB that's quite nice screen size. For myself as surf station for whatever I read on the Internet, e.g. Development related material or also entertainment via Hulu. Mobile needs are perfectly covered by my iPad mini.

Split screen would be nice.

Was thinking briefly about hybrid device: like screen detached it plays iOS and attached to a keyboard it become full MacOS. Not happen; simple because the screen transfer times might be too slow.

it baffles me the amount of people who feel the need to chime in about how they 'can't see the point' of a laptop-sized iPad ('way too huge! i love my mini!') when the surface pro exists, as do professionals who'd love an OS X tablet with a stylus - commenting visibly along the way. i mean, is this your first apple discussion thread? do you think the iPad will be for fruit ninja and Skype with grandma forever..?

Unless this new Ipad does something to make it pro, whether that's true multitasking, along with a Higher rez display , it will be nothing more than a Big Ipad.

It's a failure of design that iOS doesn't take advantage of larger screen sizes to do/show more on the lock and home screens.

----------

Metric device screen size. iPhone Essential/A7. iPhone/A6. iPad Mini/A5. iPad/A4. iPad Pro/A3. Split screen multitasking & scaling made sensible.

I was thinking the same thing. Wasn't it about 6 months ago there was a story here saying that Apple was working on a detachable keyboard? Especially with MS showing the differences between the Surface and the iPad in recent ads I could see Apple releasing a competitor with similar features.

Every single non iPad user that uses my iPad 3rd gen, such as friends and family, and a variety of age, gender and types of people... All say the same thing!

"It would be better if it was bigger"

Lots of people online are failing to see a market for a larger iPad but they are not considering so many categories of people...

Artists
Graphics Designers
Video Editors
Writers
Bloggers
Businesses
-Portfolios
-Catalogs
Media consumers
-Netflix
-YouTube
-Twitch
Musicians
DJs
Elderly people

Multitasking

And that's before taking in to consideration the people that would just love the extra screen real estate to browse the web or the App Store and iTunes! Can you imagine how apps will be optimised to take advantage of the extra space, or the extra features apps could incorporate with extra power! Pro apps would finally take off and tablets would hit whole new markets! This is exactly what the iPad needs!

Also things like watching Netflix and YouTube in bed would go from not as good as being in front of your tv to an absolute up close replacement!

The device won't be heavy at all, probably less so than an iPad 3rd generation and we all used them fine!

It will be smaller and more portable than a Macbook Air and lighter too! It will be a lot easier to hold and use than people would think!

I can not wait for a iPad Plus and will be lining up outside my local Apple Store without any hesitation on price...

With a pointing device I could imagine getting work done on such an iPad.

Just get a MBA, it's more practical.

Seriously, I'm still looking for a reason to go bigger with a tablet, there's no advantage over a lightweight laptop in most pro fields.

It's hard to believe that so many people don't understand why a larger size option for the iPad makes sense. Does anyone think that an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper is too big? Apple is obviously very successful at making their products lighter and thinner, so it's not hard to see them getting closer and closer to the "magical sheet of glass" idea.

Big Excel files on a big iPad ... Now if MS would allow to create Pivot tables I would be a very happy camper with that combo.

Which would still be awesome when you consider app developers will make use of that space very well! Apps would be fantastic, especially pro apps!

Just because you fanboys don't have a need it doesn't mean there aren't people who want this. Just like the same people who said "NO WAY WOULD PEOPLE WANT AN IPAD MINI!" and the same thing for the iPone 6 Plus! lmao
I for one do want it.

tell that to wacom/cintiq owners. filmmakers. industrial designers. doctors/surgeons seeking a stylus and screen real estate. inventors. engineers. pretty much any hands-on profession people generally don't 'grasp' unless they're in it. if this thing goes OS X and stylus, it will destROY surface sales. this isn't just an errant option or fanciful thinking - it's the future of tablets.

Arent these all concepts by third parties who truely have no clue what the final design will look like?

I hope for smaller bezels too by the way.

$999 - 16gb

I can see it now

Maybe they'll bring back the good old 8GB models since everything is supposed to happen in the cloud now.

Oh wait, you have to synch cloud content locally with iCloud, no way around it.

Fair enough for a desktop computer, but anything mobile suffers from this design.

It's gonna be a nieche product..
Unlike phones where bigger size is more popular and brings superior functionality, when it comes to tablets, smaller sizes are preferable.

I even favour iPad Mini to iPad Air and infact replaced my Air, with Mini just recently.I find smaller mini 10x superior to Air due to "sweet spot" and smaller size.I can't even think about 12 inches of a tablet.
But needless to say some can find it preferable, although an small percentage of users.

I dont agree.

I for one do not want a smaller tablet. I would never carry a tablet with me outside of my home. I think it looks ridiculous walking around with a mini tablet when the iphone 6 and 6+ do the same thing and only sacrifice small amounts of display size......

I use my phone (6) if I want to look something up on the internet etc. while out. I use the ipad as a replacement for my laptop for internet browsing at home and an occasional app. Pure and simple. Yes it is an expensive browser. But that is the way I use it. In conjunction with my iphones and 2nd ipad.

I think opinions like yours and many others on this thread are right in line with those that said a bigger iphone would not happen or wouldnt sell. You say that it is the trend and is popular which is why it worked. But a LOT of people here said apple has always done things different and didnt need the huge phones. The sales numbers for the 6 and 6+ speak for themselves.

At $1000 or above, I will not buy it. My ipad air works fine and I will just buy the next ipad in line (ipad air 3?). But if it is below that, I will buy one, and may buy a second for my family to share.

Last but not least, I am glad we have choices!!!!!

Why not load Mac Osx into the keyboard and iOS into the screen. That way the iPad doesn't have to hold osx onboard. And with handoff the keyboard could just pickup where you left off you could even have an additional battery to recharge the iPad.

Just because you fanboys don't have a need it doesn't mean there aren't people who want this.

Don't be fooled. Fanboys don't have a need until they believe a rumor is likely true and/or Apple rolls out the thing. Then, they'll spew rationale for owning one to no end. Not enough rumors for this one to believe it yet. Once that changes, the general pessimism and "useless" will start shifting toward "wait & see" and "when I can actually touch one". Then, once Apple rolls them out (putting the formal Apple endorsement on them), it's "shut up and take my money" and "how did we ever get by without one of these?". Later, cue 500 threads of "I have a iPad Air and a Macbook. Convince me why I need a Maxi" filling with passionate arguments of how it is "must have."

Sorry, but serious work requires serious tools - you don't edit film or create effects or build complex 3D models with a tablet. It lacks processing power, GPU acceleration, storage (lol you want to do multi-GB transfers over wifi to a render farm?).

Tablets = casual use, they're fine for it and there's nothing wrong with that. Tablets in the work place are fine for app testing, documentation/taking notes, etc. There are things tablets are good for in the work place.

Have you tried to fill out a spreadsheet or code something or do web work or edit a film that's a little more complex than a home movie for your parents? Hell, typing an email longer than a paragraph is a chore and a half on a touchscreen. Touch input isn't an improvement, it'll slow you down and lack precision on top of it.

There's a lot of work required for tablets to become pro-grade devices than just making the screen/resolution bigger.

or, y'know, different types of people with different personalities exist, they buy mobile devices that suit their needs, and they can't rationally be pigeonholed (as you've done effortlessly).

creating self-fulfilling prophecies out of thin air is fairly pointless. you could pretend 'everyone' said [x] about anything. doesn't make it even remotely true.
