I wonder if they'll at least give the option to turn arrows back on for the scroll bar...

The absence of these is the most annoying "feature" in Lion, by far, and results in a lot of wasted time.

To soon be able to stream/AirPlay one's computer desktop to one's TV is going to be a sweet interaction indeed! This will get around some of the video incompatibilities encountered with the iDevices, such as the iPad.

(My wife likes to watch missed TV show posted on a TV's website, but some networks still post video in the 'archaic' Flash format!).

And no need to convert non-iTunes compatible video formats such as DivX and MKV into the AppleTV readable version - simply mirror directly from the computer.

Great stuff.

Very happy!! ;)

Yeah this is not just big for macs, it is a huge boost for apple tv.

I was wondering the same thing. It looks like an iMac. Their displays don't have that big of a base with an apple logo. I didn't think these things had hdmi inputs for an appletv to connect to.

He's probably running software to make the mac appear as an appletv on the network.

Or he's using the iMac in display mode + HDMI-Mini DP adapter...

Does that accessory of Apple's that lets you connect your iPad 2 or iPhone 4S via cable go into the Apple TV or into your HDTV directly?

But is it faster and more stable than lion? That is the question.

It seemed to me less laggy than Lion 10.7.3 when the Mission control being activated when scrolling etc. (I've got SSD in my MBP, so it definitely wont be by my HW, Lion just is not that good as we think imho)

Will AirPlay transfer 5.1 Sound to my TV?

Intel Core 2 Duo

Does anyone know if Airplay desktop streaming will work on an Intel Core 2 Duo iMac? I read that it's only supported on i3/i5/i7 but I hope that's not true.

I have to confirm, the option is not there, i have a C2D iMac.

So they are making us pay for a patch that fixes Lion, and calling it Mountain Lion, huh?

That aside, Airplay for OSX is something I've been waiting for, and hope it works well (including correctly playing audio formats, etc). Although I typically hook my computer to the TV directly to watch content, now I'll have the option to stream it instead. Very useful indeed, and I think it will be especially handy for those not currently watching computer video formats on their TV.

I just hope they come out with a 1080p version of Apple TV.

All of these features could easily be added in a Lion update, this reeks of annualizing OS releases. Adding a few things to Safari, Dashboard and System Preferences are not worth an upgrade.

1) This is isn't even an alpha build.
2) Some of these changes are pretty drastic, it warrants a new release as far as I'm concerned, and I doubt we've even seen everything yet.

Sweet! Can't wait to use iMessage on the computer, and to put that Apple TV to some good use!! Now time to setup a slingbox.

I hope theres an option to turn off versions and more importantly:

an option to ungroup application windows in mission control while showing all other application windows. bring back expose.

I use Mission Control and App Exposé. Personally I really like this way so you can switch either between programs or between windows. Not working for you?

First time posting on these forums after months of reading. Airplay Question: with the update should we be able to mirror the video of Hbogo/ESPn3 from my mac to my apple tv? right now you can only get the audio through mirroring from those sites from an iPhone/ipad.

thanks

If you have an iPhone 4S, iPad 2 or in the future, a Mac running OS X Mountain Lion, you can use AirPlay Mirroring. Anything you do on the device is sent to the Apple TV. Image and sound. Whether its Mail, any page on Safari, you name it.

Apple TV has no inputs. It has HDMI out, Optical Audio out, Ethernet and Power.

WOW!

I am actually quite impressed with the Air Play mirroring. This means that I can watch NFL streams online on my TV through the Apple TV.

That alone is reason enough for me to upgrade the MBA to 10.8

Apparently I'm the only one who feels that none of these features are exciting or useful.
