Some great new features. I like the reminders addition.

But I do so really hope that apple will remove 'resume applications' on startup or build in an option to turn it off in ML! It's functionality that I don't want or need and get in the way of how I work. It is so incredibally frustrating for me to have to click the the checkbox everytime, and turn all my apps off before I quit. I use many in a work session.

thats not gonna work, it will be blacked out due to right holder issues

edit: this was meant to be a reply to the people thinking about streaming Hulu etc content. silly mobile page view messes up

I hope theres an option to turn off versions and more importantly:

an option to ungroup application windows in mission control while showing all other application windows. bring back expose.

Point your mouse to the dock over the icon of the app you want to see open windows and swipe 3 fingers down.
Works in Lion...

Exciting times for Apple. True intergration with all devices is going to amazing.

Everything Apple do at the moment excites me. :apple:

Agreed!!

ATV needs update

At least in my network, my ATV2 needs a newer version of software to allow video Airplay. Sitting here right now trying and no go. So we wait until ATV gets updates to test this setup without an iMac and cables.

Can't wait actually. I can see a projector with Airplay, or even with an ATV connected and then Airplay to it. Actually, any new device with video and/or audio Airplay will be very cool.

Fat tabs in Safari

I hope they drop the fat tabs in Safari before release as it will slow me down a lot. For purely practical reasons the fat tabs don't work. I have a few tabs open for example one is an order summary page and the other is a UPS package collection page. I need to copy and paste the address information from the order page to the UPS page. Instead of moving the mouse just an inch or two between the neatly arranged tabs now I will have to move the mouse from one end of the screen to the other. Just seems this has been done for looks rather than practicality much like when they moved the tabs to the top of the window briefly in the leopard version of safari.

There are some things that work just fine as they are and don't need fixing and tabs is one of those things.

Rumors are that Airplay mirroring in ML will not work with any Intel Core 2 Duo Macs, even with the latest beta of the ATV

Mountain Lion looks like it's gunna bring some really nice improvements, especially with unifying OS X & iOS features. Ohhhhh why not 'Mac OS X' anymore? I can't livvvvvvvvvvvvvve (if living is without youuuuuuuuu)

This OSX looks awesome for the social network zombies, but Apple still has many underdeveloped aspects in iCal (Calendar) and DVD Player and iTunes ... I somehow doubt they will have figured them out in .8 if they didn't get them worked on by .7, which is a shame. They've had a decade to make brilliant programs out of their very good programs... what's directing Apple's software?

So far it seems like a fluff-OS version, and probably something to skip over. The most amazing addition is the wireless mirroring, but it is only 720? Come on, Apple. It is 2012, not 2005.

I think I'll hold out for the 1080p version (crosses fingers, holds breath)

Exactly what I was thinking. Apple has to stop diddling with 720 and get the balls to go 1080. I hope this year they update everything with the A6 and go for full HD resolution. That's the day I buy Mt. Lion and ATV.

The few features shown in Preview—photo editing—already exist in Lion.

Yup. I was wondering if someone would spot this.

The only "new" bit is that it looks like there is a new resize icon on the toolbar to bring up the sheet.

Otherwise, same as it has always been.

Don't wan to be too negative. I enjoyed the video. It was well made.

So they are making us pay for a patch that fixes Lion, and calling it Mountain Lion, huh?
Many small incremental steps add up to big steps over time. Unless you want them to do one big bang release?

Apparently I'm the only one who feels that none of these features are exciting or useful.
What do you want instead?

Me too.
Will buy the very day it hits the market.

Pretty awesome that Apple strikes back with a new OS X so soon after Lion.

It's not all about iOS after all. (Now people can start complaining about the release cycle being too short instead - doh!)

if you're interested in the desktop mirroring to your apple tv 2, check out http://www.airparrot.com

Anyone used this?

I think this sounds like it might sneak macs and apple TVs into classrooms.

Our teacher tech committee at the high school I teach in was told that we'd be getting a lot of Apple TVs in the next year. Couldn't for the life of me figure out why we'd need them. I know that our top tech guy gets to "talk" to Apple, though I can't imagine he gets too much early info, if any. I could see this being a feature that would be casually mentioned in a meeting, however. This would change my classroom functioning dramatically.

Can you imagine how much slack would MS get if they introduce new Windows by hyping tweaked Paint, Note and Windows Mail apps?

That's all fine and dandy but where is native universal TRIM function in ML? Not there yet? Really? You can tweet a picture from desktop just make sure you dont delete it afterwards if you are using non Apple SSD.

I use Mission Control and App Exposé. Personally I really like this way so you can switch either between programs or between windows. Not working for you?

They are really close to having it perfect, there is just some really annoying inconsistencies. While you can activate app expose from the dock by doing the expose gesture over the app's dock icon, it won't work if your currently in a fullscreen app!

In mission control, if you flick up over a group, it expands the group slightly/fades out the rest and then flick down to collapse the group. GREAT GREAT IDEA but it makes you want to hit your head against the wall as the group doesn't expand far enough and the windows in the group still overlap each other!!! How could anyone have such a great idea to merge mission control/app exposé and then stop halfway in the transition animation?

Apple TV, mirroring.

I just love the idea of the streaming your display through your Apple TV, to your HDTV.

Is it really worth the $99 to buy it just for that.

I've always wanted to use a bigger display for when I play The Sims 3, for when I build my homes.

It seemed to me less laggy than Lion 10.7.3 when the Mission control being activated when scrolling etc. (I've got SSD in my MBP, so it definitely wont be by my HW, Lion just is not that good as we think imho)

Will AirPlay transfer 5.1 Sound to my TV?

If you use the regular Video Airplay, it transfers 5.1 audio and the video quality is exactly the same as the source. If you turn on mirroring, I believe audio is limited to stereo and the quality of the video depends somewhat upon your wifi connection.

You should only use mirroring if regular Video Airplay is not supported by the app.

Airplay without an AppleTV?

He's probably running software to make the mac appear as an appletv on the network.

What software does this? I use a Mac Mini running Plex as my media center, and I would love to be able to mirror my MBP or my iPad to my television, but I have no real use for an AppleTV. There must be some way to accomplish this using another Mac.

I don't understand this statement. You said you would love to be able to mirror your MBP or your iPad to your television. So it seems to me you certainly do have a real use for an AppleTV. That's one of its main features. The device is only $99 and it's worth that for Airplay alone in my opinion even without all the other nice features it has like its iCloud integration, iTunes Match integration, the live TV they added to it recently, and the ability to play your locally stored music, movies, and tv shows.

My favorite part of the Apple TV is the User Interface is perfect for TV use as compared to the equivalents using a computer. So watching MLB, NBA, Wall Street Journal, Vimeo, Youtube, NHL, Netflix, and all the other stuff they add to are done using apps that all have a similar UI and that UI is meant specifically for watching from a distance and controlling with a remote.

It makes for a better user experience than hooking up a computer to your TV. The only downside is that more content is available on your computer. But with Airplay mirroring even that isn't a downside anymore.
