Eager for the new cat :)

You used Inception music didn't ya?

I didn't catch it 'till the second track.

Gotta say, I wasn't too happy with that whole bring iOS to the desktop thing, but as long as they don't overstep (and I'm not seeing that yet) Then I'm cool with the changes they've made. :)

Might have missed this, but can you hover where the scroll bar would be to get the new scroll bar?

Guess no one cares about NDAs anymore...

Apple doesn't. They held a private event for journalists (Macworld, Ars, etc) at Cupertino the day they released the Lion beta to show off the new features in the beta.

Hmm, I think it only shows up when you start scrolling. (I guess to not make it accidentally activated), but you can click to use it and it will show up. But I guess it's a bit buggy and needs to be tweaked. Also, as I said, it only shows up in apps designed to take advantage of it sadly. So a lot of older apps that aren't updated often may be more Snow Leopard-ish for a while. Same with the FullScreen feature. All I need is Chrome to get this method and I'll be happy.

Maybe a MacRumors admin could update the OP and the article with a link to the second video as well. Not sure if I'll do a third unless I can find more stuff. Right now I was stretching to find the stuff I have in both. And if I had known about the second stuff, I'd have put it all in one long (25 minutes, you'd be booooored) video.

I hope all these gestures and new features are easy to use and actually results in increased productivity

I still just don't see the appeal of the fullscreen app thing. Sure it seems to work on the iDevices, but multitasking is the whole point on PCs (generic comparator) these days. I never 'got' spaces and will still be happy as long as everything can still be turned off that messes things up - including preferably that new fullscreen widget.

Still stoked that the iTunes dashboard widget appears to be gone - possibly the best way to stop it crashing at last.

Address Book - I thought we frowned upon things that look like that outside of dashboard.

Fullscreen schmullscreen

Thanks for the video. I still don't get this fullscreen crap. I've got a 27" iMac. I never want anything to take up my full screen. I mean can't I maximise anything now and make it fullscreen if I want? Even toss it in it's own Space if I want? What am I missing here?

Mostly I just want to know that I'll be able to accept meeting invites in iCal for a calendar that not associated with the email address the invitation was sent to. It's killing me. I'm about to abandon Mobile Me because of that. If I can't use MM to sync my calendars anymore because calendars are only linked with a MM address, it's useless to me.

Looks nice so far, though really don't like the iOS scroll bars. Usability wise they are awful - you have to click on the scrollbar to know where you are in the document. Too many unnecessary steps.

Additionally, they are inconsistent, since the application has to support them.

Very un-Apple like.

When are Apple going to stop changing iCal? It was good after version 2 but then got progressively worse, i.e., you have to click on an event to be able to see the details. Why not have the event details in a side bar like previous versions ( there is a floating window - but its inconsistent with the UI ). Also the mini calendar doesn't have any markings to show the day has one or more events.

Spotlight changes look nice.

Hey everyone quick question. Towards the beginning of the video, the user enlarges the finder fonts to small, medium, and large. Will that enlarge the fonts on the menubar on the top as well?

The reason why I'm asking is that I want to a hi-res display, but the fonts are too small for my eyes. Will this new feature alleviate that issue?

Re: LaunchPad

I think some UI designed for iPad's 9.7" touchscreen shouldnt be directly copied to Mac Computers with larger screen sizes up to 27" or more!

It's a waste of screen estate.

Launchpad just works. Further, it's an option. There is no waste of anything because you can either invoke it or not.

The way Apple is porting iOS to Macs is pure genius. I've been using the preview for about two weeks now and the concepts work nicely, although everything's still rough around the edges.

I'm loving fullscreen. For things like PDFs, web-browsing and photo-browsing it's quite nice.

Well, like LaunchPad, you don't HAVE to use Fullscreen if you don't want to. On a laptop however, it'll be amazing. And even on an iMac really for many users. Like apps that have a lot of stuff like iMovie and iPhoto and stuff.

In time, hopefully most apps will be updated, if we're lucky, before Lion comes out. And I agree about no longer having a visual reference to where in the document you are. But hey, they're also optional. You can turn them off or on or have them automatic. They're meant for trackpad users. But can be forced on or off. So don't fret. Pretty much everything in Lion that is new, can be disabled. Even DashBoard has its old mode still in.

Also, for reference, the songs from both videos:
Shawshank Redemption - Theme
Inception - Dream Within A Dream
Moon - We're Not Programs, Gerty, We're People

Pirates of the Caribbean - One Last Shot
Kung Fu Hustle - Fisherman's Song of the East China Sea
Donnie Darko - Time Travel

Excellent Videos! Thank you!

Does the "resize from any side" feature work on all apps, or just updated apps?

I can't believe it, but I'm actually starting to get excited for Lion!

I can't believe it, but I'm actually starting to get excited for Lion!

Any app that can be resized seems to get the feature. In certain apps, there isn't even a resize box anymore. And the window is rounded for pretty much every app. Even ones that aren't optimized.

am i the only one who finds Launch Pad pretty pointless? You've got the dock for your most frequent apps, and then the apps folder as a stack in the dock for all the others? Does Launch Pad improve on this at all? I'm usually not a hater of new features, i'm always up for new stuff, but this one just strikes me as totally redundant.

Couldn't agree more. I think it might be one of those features that gets pulled before final release.

So in Lion, when your computer freezes, it is still able to restart?

If it's still able to follow a command, why can't that command be "unfreeze" ???

Launchpad with the dock makes the desktop look too cluttered.

I agree with you. I don't see Launchpad being that necessary. Quicksilver (Gnome-Do for me) is the preferred method of launching apps. It's clean and quick.

I guess they are trying to have a single interface paradigm between Mac OS and iOS. If they want to integrate the user experience between the two, there would be no logic in having 2 different metaphors for the same thing (launching apps).

Yeah, I agree. I just use my apps folder in my dock, and have my most used apps in the dock as well. Perhaps is may be nice for those who don't like the dock and want an iOS experience out of it.

I personally don't like the folders on the dock right now and launchpad looks like it will be a better option for me.
