I want to watch it again because of the music. Great choices.

Cool vids - I hope they're not pulled and look forward to more.

So in Lion, when your computer freezes, it is still able to restart?

If it's still able to follow a command, why can't that command be "unfreeze" ???

It's for when a server Kernel Panic's (I believe) so it'll reboot by itself instead of sit alone frozen. Say, you go on vacation for a week and your webserver crashes. Oops. Not home to reboot. Lost all those potential visitors. Dammit. If only there were a way to automatically reboot the computer without having to be around.

That's probably the most likely situation. But there are definitely the other hangs that don't lead to a kernel panic. These tend to be in the graphics system (driver issues or the window server simply hangs). I'd assume that in this case, since the kernel can still do something, it can trigger a reset when it detects that the graphics system or the window server has gone off the rails.

Very nice looking, but will it be delivered on time as planned without any delays. That is my worry.

According to Apple, release is summer 2011. Summer ends approximately September 20th so there's around a 6 to 7 month beta period. Short of any major issues I don't see why they can't hit their planned release timeframe.

Launchpad

I don't know why people are comparing the launchpad as shortcut icons on a Windows machine. The icons only appear when you activate launchpad and disappear when you don't want them. Plus, I like how the wallpaper blurs and other programs hides. Nice alternative to finding our applications. My current method is to use the shortcut Command + Spacebar to use spotlight to access my apps. Launchpad may be slower than that method but I think I may use it for a while since it looks like a fun experience.

am i the only one who finds Launch Pad pretty pointless?.

Although I haven't used it yet, it seams totally useless for my. It may help iOS users but for me is just another not needed icon in the dock waiting for removal.

Lion seems much better than Snow Leopard so far.

They are training your brain to use a touch interface on a laptop / desktop system.
I understand what you are saying, I thought the same. But after using Lion I like it, you almost reach the point of saying "what's the point of the Dock?"

Sorry folks but am I the only one who really isnt that excited about Lion. What does it offer in terms of innovation or graphical improvement?? Hate to say it but IE9 is looking a lot nicer than anything Safari can offer and Windows 7 is looking more polished these days. I dont get why people are excited. its a real anti climax. The icons looks way outta place all mixed up with the Fisher Price efforts from iTunes and QT especially.

Ill upgrade if its free. From what Ive seen, it has nothing worth paying for. Maybe Ill feel differet when I pick up a new iMac in due course with it installed.

Jasoco, could you upload the first video again, without the music? I can't watch it because of Sony copyright BS. :)

An iMac? You do know a PC from Dell is much cheaper and it has Win7 installed as standard?

Not Impressed at all

Where's Core CL Apps?
Where's Open Document format compatibility?

What are the new features, all this eye candy can be achieved with other apps, it's good to get a better OS GUI but is this really worth an OS X major version name? Haven't seen nothing worthy!
iChat should have MSN, Facebook, etc etc support, no one uses ichat as is, changing the address book to a book background!? This is not an iPhone!! Also Pages and Numbers should be optimized, it takes ages to open, even openoffice is faster, Apple has not working very well in Mac OS X, and this proves it. Hope we will see a faster OS, that will make our computer work really better and not just more eyecandy and special effects!

I feel they should integrate Launch Pad with the Applications folder. Seems a bit weird having them separate. I know there are people who'd say, 'but I have loads of apps, I don't want them all in Launch Pad!', but the average consumer is going to download loads of stuff from the App Store, remove stuff they don't care for out of Launch Pad and think they've been deleted.

Anyone tried full screen mode on multiple displayed Macs? I have two 24" displays on mine and knowing I could have an app stay focussed and full screen on one whilst the other works normally sounds pretty awesome..

I'll probably set launchpad to one of my mouse shortcuts too and hide the dock completely. It's going to be slick!

No. Sadly, according to the internet, when one app is fullscreen, the other monitors go black. Seems like a silly oversight and I hope Apple figures this out before final.

I hereby give someone permission to rehost my video(s) without the audio if they want. Just make sure to link to the original(s). :)

BTW, where are you located that Sony is cockblocking you? I could probably just remove the audio via YouTube (You'd think YT would just mute it for people out of jurisdiction anyway) but that's the part everyone likes. :(

Launchpad is redundant in my opinion.. just click the applications folder! or use finder..

Difference with Launchpad is that you can organize it better. I think the idea is:
- dock: very fast access for applications you use every day
- launch pad: applications you use very often, but not daily (dock is too small to hold all of those) - of course you can always create an folder with aliases and stick it in the dock for those ....
- application folder: everything

Sort of like the idea, would be nice if launch pad would have an option to organize itself based on usage data ....

Anyway: thanks for the preview - looks overall very nice (and finally I can resize the windows from every corner ....)

Despite 'spaces' being done before (Linux) the Apple implementation seems very good. I am a big fan of multi monitor setups I use two at work on my PC. I am surprised Microsoft haven't really developed the idea of spaces. Maybe in Windows 8 when they copy OSX :)

I agree there doesn't seem to be much by way of noticeable upgrades which would make it worth shelling out the £50 ish price tag for an upgrade. IMO a .1 isn't a 'major' change in my book. Its a service pack with extra features. Always has been. Sure it improves but thats what a Service pack is supposed to do!

No **** Sherlock! Why would I want a Dell when Im a mac user? Just because Ive came on here and not went with the flow of blowing smoke up Lions ass doesnt mean Im not a happy Mac user. All I was saying is that for something thats taken so long to appear it isnt really groundbreaking is it. I mean lets not get carried away just because something is called Launchpad and there have been minor improvements in spotlight. Im sure it will be a stable OS but hardly innovative.:p

Looking at 6:19 / 6:20 in the video.
Is it a new Mac-keyboard shown in the tutorial? Or am I just a bit slow?

For those saying that it's just GUI changes and nothing worthy of a new OS X version, I disagree. There's loads of GUI changes, but you have loads of functionality changes such as full screen, versions, resume, better Quick Time, etc... However, what truly makes your computing experience better? New ways to work with your apps and to manage them. That is what multi-touch does here, with Mission Control and other stuff. It makes using your computer more comfortable and more efficient. That's not just a GUI change!

So then, what did Windows 7 offer in addition to XP? An updated GUI. And some fixes and additions here and there that most people won't even notice.

Thanks for the video. I still don't get this fullscreen crap. I've got a 27" iMac. I never want anything to take up my full screen. I mean can't I maximise anything now and make it fullscreen if I want? Even toss it in it's own Space if I want? What am I missing here?

If you don't need/want it, don't use it. You don't have to run applications in fullscreen - it is an additional feature that can be used for people that see use in it. OS features are not customized for specific users in this forum - there are other users with other needs. If you work on a 11''/13''/15'' laptop and don't have a huge external monitor connected, it is a great feature.

Windows 7 looks nice on first glance but when I used it it was clunky and lacked visual balance, it only looks good with transparency and doesn't look any good when the apps are maximized.

In regards to lion, I don't like the white quick look interface, it reminds me of Windows 7 basic.

Thanks for the reply. But NOOOO I was worried about that. Quicktime used to do the same I think but they fixed it, so I'm hopeful. I'm worried about mission control too now though, expose can already be a bit weird with spaces enabled.

"not available in your country"

Good thing that I am not that enthused about Lion so I don't care that I am not able to watch that bloody video. Go globalization Yeah.
