Following the opening of pre-orders for the Apple Watch on Apple's Online Store this morning, Apple Retail Stores in first-wave countries today opened their doors to fans waiting for Apple Watch try-on appointments. Below, MacRumors has rounded up a collection of videos made by both fans and tech blogs, showcasing the busy but excited atmosphere no doubt permeating throughout most Apple stores today.

First is a video uploaded to Hong Kong-based Chan Xin's YouTube channel. In the video he tries on both 38mm and 42mm Sport model cases, and is put through a short demo presentation of the Watch by an employee, ending the video by checking out the Stainless Steel Milanese Loop option.

Has to suck to go in, try it on, then leave empty handed to wait for it to be delivered on release day.

I wanted to comment on how absolutely dorky these videos and this whole deal seems - but then I remembered that I watched the entire videos, and preordered two of them this morning - and have a try on appointment set for tomorrow...

They look really large and bulky in these videos. Will be seeing them in store tomorrow so find out in person

Hard to get a sense from the videos, but I sure hope the 42mm (vs 38mm) I bought is the right size.
They seemed so bulky. I almost bought both to then either cancel or return the one I don't want, but I didn't want to be "that guy".

Definitely go try them on!!

I ordered two last nite (4/24 delivery), thinking I'd certainly keep one and then cancel the other.

After actually trying them on today, I cancelled both and ordered one with a totally different band. Now I have to wait 4-6 weeks, but I'll be happier.

I found the try-on staff very overbearing. I went to two stores and found the second experience much more pleasant than with the first staff member, although he too seemed too pushy, too controlling, and too friendly not to mention being keen to remind me of details I'd told them I was aware of.

I didn't get to try my favourite combo at the stores today as they either had the wrong colour or length of leather loop available - but I did settle on what I would have by seeing the correct colour and wearing the right size in the wrong colour. I'm glad I went as I wasn't into the loop before today and it was much more comfortable than what I expected to prefer.

Edit: as a guy with small wrists I also found out that I could wear the 42mm as long as it was with the right kind of straps.

Update: The experiences in the videos look much more pleasant.

I tried them out today and can tell you they are absolutely NOT bulky. It's so strange but in person they appear much smaller than in pictures/videos. The difference is a bit startling actually.

The Austrailian video shows you Apple's power. I find it amazing how they can convince someone who had no intention on buying a device to buy one after a few minutes of playing with it.

Thanks for this insight. Just curious which size you preferred? (Not that I know you or what your arm looks like :p).

I am also wondering in your opinion just how drastic the difference is in person between the 38 and 42. I've used the Apple Store app actual size renderings on my phone, as well as cut outs of a PDF to scale. They don't do it justice. On the phone, the watch faces seem huge, and as a cutout they seem so tiny.

Which straps did you find worked well with the 42, to slim down its appearance so to speak?

the aus sales girl is sweet, but i think she says a few things that apple would prefer her not to say, lol. the confusion about the range of the radio in the watch and the comments about which colors and bands and finishes she doesn't like, etc. it's a fine line being honest and being a good company person. she is sweet tho. i do like how the aus guy is so in the moment just telling it as he feels it. you feel him go from interested to lusting in the course of 10 minutes. the bit where he plays with the interface is great. like a baby with a rattle. :D

I just had my Try-on at 12:30 DST and I wish the pre-orders started next week. That way you could try it on before ordering. Australia and other early time zones lucked out. Since, I already ordered my Watch and Extra Bands at 3:01. My wrist measured 210mm, which put me at the limit of the Sports and Link Bands. So I ordered my Apple Watch with the Classic Buckle, since it's sized at 215mm. I ordered the Sport and Link Bands separate with the thought of canceling the Bands that didn't fit. At my Try-on the Sports band fit fine and had extra holes left. The Link also fit loose and I will need to take a link out or more. If I know this I would have ordered the Apple Watch with the Sports band. But since the Classic Buckle alone has a ship date of May, so I ordered it with the Watch to be safe.

I'm debating whether the 15 minute trial period is worth a 2 hour round trip car ride, especially since I know what model I want.

I ordered the 42mm Silver Sport earlier today and booked an appointment (Liverpool, UK). I actually shared the appointment with my mum (we both had an appointment at the same time and asked to shared the same box of watches to free up space) the lady helping us wasn't forceful and took her time explaining the features.

Like others have said, the 42mm is definitely not as big as the product photos make it look, seriously. Both sizes are quite small, but photos and even videos really do them no justice. You really just need to see and hold them for yourself to get an idea of the size.

Thankfully, the size I ordered was definitely the right choice for me, looking forward to hopefully receiving it on the 24th, or soon after!

Just returned from my appointment at Toronto Eaton Centre. None of the try on Watches turned on which I found odd. I got to feel what the Watch was like on my wrist but I only got to play around with the Watch UI on the demo unit in the stand. This meant that I wasn't able to try the heart beat sensor or Taptic feedback.

They're Pretty Amazing

Went to the Knox Street store in Dallas this morning to get my iPhone 6 replaced (hardware malfunction... blue screen of death.) While I was waiting I perused the display case and then tried on of the 42mm Watch editions. It was lose on my wrist... some of the links would have to be removed. $1,100. Looked great and the watch itself sat nicely on my wrist. Backordered to June, whcih is right around a big birthday for me, so just maybe...

After reading most comments here are people buying this watch based on looks, functionality or because it's a new Apple gadget?

If you don't have any question about the bands then I wouldn't recommend a special trip. The Sports band feel surprisingly nice though. Like it's been said, the Try-on Watches are just basically running a demo video. No feed back at all, for that you have to use the display model mounted with an iPad to the table.
