This is pretty nerdy. I mean real nerdy not hipster nerdy.

It is funny though.

Which straps did you find worked well with the 42, to slim down its appearance so to speak?

I liked the Leather Loop the most but the Classic Buckle and Milanese Loop (although this does this the least well in my opinion) are also able to start curving right at the ends of the band, helping keep the fit as slim as possible. In contrast the sport band sticks out a fair bit before it really starts to wrap around my wrists, so there's a pair of noticeable air gaps on the outer side of the wrist between the band and my arm which is not a great look at all, although it still didn't move along my arm at all in the store.

If you don't have any question about the bands then I wouldn't recommend a special trip. The Sports band feel surprisingly nice though. Like it's been said, the Try-on Watches are just basically running a demo video. No feed back at all, for that you have to use the display model mounted with an iPad to the table.

I ordered a SS with a sport band but considering picking up a link bracelet in a few months. Again, not sure if it warrants a special trip. I'm fine with it running a demo mode, but might be interesting to physical try both bands.

I wanted to comment on how absolutely dorky these videos and this whole deal seems - but then I remembered that I watched the entire videos, and preordered two of them this morning - and have a try on appointment set for tomorrow...

Ha, sometimes I ask myself why I'm crazy too but I am passing on the watch for now.

Thanks. This must be why the watches with the sport band tend to look a bit bulkier in these youtube videos.

Also I don't know if anybody else noticed this but the iPad-Watch stands have MagSafe 2 connectors on the bottom.

I had a couple of obscure questions for staff which nobody could answer:
If the watch could handle formatted email - including rich html, and if it's possible to take screenshots on the watch. If anybody does know it'd be helpful.

Nice videos. I found them very informative.

Also just want to say the staff in the stores seem so easy-going. I know if I was working there I'd be quite uncomfortable being filmed whilst doing my job. But then I guess working in an Apple Store requires a certain type of staff-member :)

This may have been said already because I haven't read the thread but they have no stainless steel space black for try on , which is pretty disappointing. You can only look at it in the case. I guess I'll just have to wait till I get mine

They look really large and bulky in these videos. Will be seeing them in store tomorrow so find out in person

I thought the same thing. All the videos and pictures I seen make it seem like it's gigantic. I was wondering whether not I made a mistake. But I just had my try on appointment today, and I've got to say that it it seems way smaller when you actually hold it put it on your wrist. I don't think the thing is huge at all. And the stainless steel bracelet is just absolutely fantastic.

Has to suck to go in, try it on, then leave empty handed to wait for it to be delivered on release day.
Not as much as it would suck to order one online, then have it arrive sight-unseen only to discover the one you chose didn't fit well or was uncomfortable.

As someone that has to design emails, these are great questions.

Someone was saying that screenshots are possible. I think you press the Digital Crown and the button beneath it at the same time, like the Lock and Home buttons on iPhone.

I just gotta say it was a smart idea to have a one on one at an Apple Store before people bought them. It gets a customer educated on the device and eliminates a little of the confusion.

This is why the Apple Store makes all the difference in the world. Buying one at a Beat Buy or OfficeMax with someone who would rather sell you something else for a better commission or who knows or cares very little about the product itself.

There's no feedback on the watches that you can interact with when you try this - they're in a less limited demo mode. Sending a message for example just kind of stops once you tap the final button. Multiple options in settings are greyed out too.

I went and checked out at local Apple Store. The design was classic and nice looking. I wish it had front row capabilities so I could easily navigate to only certain app. Screen is too small to always be touching on the main screen. I want to be excited but price versus value you get aren't there yet. Maybe they'll add front row so I don't have to see the main menu so much. I didn't think the scroll wheel was innovative. But that's my 2 cents.

This was from the tech reviews from a couple days ago.

It doesn't look innovative but transforming a mechanical knob into a digital input is actually more sophisticated than it looks.

Thanks for this insight. Just curious which size you preferred? (Not that I know you or what your arm looks like :p).

I am also wondering in your opinion just how drastic the difference is in person between the 38 and 42. I've used the Apple Store app actual size renderings on my phone, as well as cut outs of a PDF to scale. They don't do it justice. On the phone, the watch faces seem huge, and as a cutout they seem so tiny.

I'm very skinny and have small wrists for a guy. I don't know the exact size, but chances are they're smaller than yours.Yet the 42mm doesn't come off as too big, even by conservative standards-- the few Apple employees I was speaking to about it with agreed with that assessment. The 42mm and 38mm were both options to me from practical and visual standpoints. I'm pretty fashion conscious and wouldn't want to wear something that looks too bulky on my wrist, and it doesn't. This was a big relief, as my order is already placed.

The reality probably matches up more to your perception of the cutout than the phone. I'm convinced any concern about it being too big or bulky is going to largely dissipate when people start seeing them in the wild. Although I suppose a thinner device would be welcome, it's far from a priority.

Your second question wasn't directed at me but I can give you my answer anyway. In my view the different straps have a significant impact on the perceived size of the device.

I too went and checked out the watches and got to try the ones I ordered on. I agree with what everyone is saying, they are remarkably smaller than they look, and they are so light. One thing I did notice was the amount of times the guy had to wipe off the SS models compared to the sport. When I said something to him, he leaned in and said....the glass and the silver show every fingerprint and smudge...the sport models don't. I didn't really think about it, but afterwards my wife did say it seemed like they guy was more worried about keeping them clean and locked up than anything else. I also have never seen so many security personnel at an Apple Store ever.

Overall, I am happy i ordered mine, and can't wait to put on

I think I understand that. But I had trouble even working with the knob. It was recessed and not necessarily easily accessible for me. The thing I need to remind myself is that unlike other apple products this watch is strictly an accessory. It doesn't and isn't meant to be more than that. I'm not an accessory type personality (don't wear watches, rings or other things unless like sunglasses I need for the actual sun). What the end result is going to be is that the apple watch will be for a refined pallet than what I have. Haha I was hoping to go to the Apple Store abs have that gotta have it feeling that never came.

Recessed? You must have looked at a defective watch.

The digital crown isn't recessed in any way. It's beautifully designed. It had a very solid feel to it and was easy to rotate and press, yet with good mechanical, tactile feedback to my finger/thumb. The entire watch is simply gorgeous and very functional.

For me, it is most definitely NOT an accessory. It will complement and add to the functionality of my iPhone.

Based upon what you said, you should not get this watch. It will be too much for you.

Just tried on some Watches in Phoenix, no wait at all and very few people in the store. First impressions of Watch...Awesome! Ordered two last night!
