i’d argue AirPods Max, which have the amazing software integration AirPods are known for, but have sound quality that doesn’t rise very high above the current AirPods Pro, and a design that is either “ the most comfortable headphones i’ve ever used” or, what I found in my experience, are extremely uncomfortable after 30 minutes because they’re made out ofmetal and weigh 400G.
I mean those are just over ear headphones. Nothing unusual or unproven about that form factor.

I think to some extent all hardware except massage chairs is an obstacle. No one actually wants to carry around a slab of metal and glass, but when it can do for you all that an iPhone can, that’s when it becomes a joy. Same with AirPods—no one wants to stick plastic things in their ear, but it becomes a joy when it can do for you what AirPods can…
So I think the joy just stems from the good greatly outweighing the bad to the point of not even caring about the bad.

But it’s not the case that every Apple product is a joy for everyone. Like for me, the value that a large screen iPhone gives me doesn’t outweigh its inconvenience—so to me it’s an obstacle.
The difference with the VP is that being a head-worn device it has a higher hill to climb than most or all other Apple hardware. It needs to offer a lot in return. I don’t know if it will for a lot of people, but to those that it does, the VP will be a joy to use.
I just can't reconcile any of what you're saying. "No one WANTS to hold an iPhone, but they do anyway in order to use it." That's such a ridiculous exaggeration of the situation, and a disingenuous one at that.

My imagination is pretty damn good and I still can't see how this does 99.99999% of anything better than existing computational methods.

Vision Pro lets you see 3D things like models. That's it. My 2010 Mac Pro still does every other task infinitely better than Vision Pro. My 2010 Mac Pro fits the needs of 99.9999% of computation users better than Vision Pro.
Damn, you could have saved Apple a ton of money, and embarrassment if you'd clued them into your findings BEFORE they made this.

Is Tim Cook aware of your concerns?

Remember in the 80s-2000s when Apple used to ya know, make a concerted effort to cater to creatives?

FCPX, Aperture, Mac Pro death by a thousand cuts, constant printer driver deprecation/destruction, unrelenting issues with monitors and external hardware.

Yea I can see why the creatives aren't happy with Apple.
I'm a creative, and I'm pretty ok with Apple.

You better dig, because what he said is accurate. The closest analogue is the iPad launch. It was pretty roundly criticized here for being too heavy, too thick, too expensive, not enough battery, not enough screen… you name it. The same is not the case for Apple Watch, iPhone or ESPECIALLY iPod.

The Apple Watch was heavily criticized and panned by this forum. As was the iPod (for being too expensive), at least initially. The iPhone seemed pretty well received in general, but the point is, this forum doesn't have a great track record with criticism for new Apple products that then go to raging success.

You‘re welcome to disagree with my assessment (also I think your interpretation/summary of my post is inaccurate), but how am I disingenuous? What motivation could I have? I don’t know if I will find enough value in the VP. And I would have said the same no matter what product you were talking about.

Well I don’t think the weight of this will be a problem for me, I’m 6’3” at 250lbs with a big head and firm build. But I could definitely see other people having difficulty with this device. Weight is going to be a top concern in developing future versions of this. Maybe by removing the front display will cut down on weight a lot, but then people won’t be able to see your eyes which breaks that human like interaction they’re going for.

Just as I lay down with my Quest 3, it suddenly hurts on my nose, then I adjust it and then it’s fine but eventually the weight still distracts you from what you are doing unless you are really distracted by a game or something and you don’t pay attention to the headset itself

That’s how I feel about headphones, especially ear buds, and especially the ear canal ones.

I’ve been making my living as a creative on a Mac since the early 1990s. Apple abandoned creative professionals long ago when they decided to become a consumer electronic company instead of a computer company. Apple ceded creatives to Microsoft.

iPod was a raging success from go. Remember this?

Some complained about price, but most just wanted to get one into their pocket asap.

Here’s one example for now on the iPod.

Really 😂

I mean I’m not going to convince you I can see that already. But my memories certainly of the Apple Watch as that was more recent, was constant criticism.

Yes, really. The positive comments are greater in number and enthusiasm.

As far as Apple Watch, sure. I didn’t pay attention to the watch then and don’t now. It’s of zero interest to me.

"Most" is no longer this forum. Hasn't been for a very long time. People here love to think they know better than Apple. But Apple's Apple, and they're... them.

What I find weird is Apple removed the battery from the device; however from reviewers comments it's going to weigh up to 100g more?

Have Apple gone and done an AirPods Max and made this "premium" by using heavy materials?

He should be cuz you're absolutely right.

Even funnier when they whine about how antisocial the AVP is, and how you should go outside and experience the real world, yet they have thousands of posts on a nerdy forum about unreleased tech gadgets.
I somehow doubt they are posting here as a shared activity with their spouse/friend while on a hike through the woods.
I can't hike on company time, but I can post to forums. Well, maybe with AVP I could, so maybe not a totally hopeless product after all.

Well now that is hardly the burn you think it is, isn't it?

To compare it to reading a book is really not understanding how reading a book works.

When I read I pick up a book and start… reading. Immersed but still able to be aware of my husband's intermittent conversation with me, stretch my eyes by looking out the window, that little pause to think over something you've just read, stroke the cat, hear the doorbell and answer it — pick up the book again — put down the book, go have a pee, answer my phone — listen to music…

What I don't have to do is strap a humungous self isolating device on to my face and then sit there, apparently immersed in my own little universe.

This AVP device is first and foremost a device that will further isolate people.

Or do you self isolate in a sound proof room when you go and *read a book*?

But, then again, YMMV and you do. In which case the AVP is probably perfect for you.
Yes I am a grumpy old man so the Vision Pro probably would be perfect for me. Sadly it's not available in my part of the world.

Yeah, but that keyboard is going to be on a desk at a specific place in your home. If you have to fall back on a Bluetooth keyboard frequently enough, then effectively you’ll just end up sitting at your desk whenever you use it. At that point, isn’t it effectively a desktop computer? Really kinda fizzles out the whole “spatial computer” concept.
Not at all. Bluetooth keyboards aren’t bound to a desk. They’re very portable. I’m using one on my couch right now to type this on my iPad, because my iPad also doesn’t have a suitable built-inkeyboard for typing anything long. A physical keyboard is simply a necessity for long typing no matter what device you’re on. I always pack a keyboard with my iPad when I take it anywhere, and I would do the same if I had a VP.

Are you a real architect?

This is exactly the type of thing I'd expect an architect to say. lolz.

Re your post - those distractions are the exact things I don't want when I'm trying to work. Unless you're reading for fun.

Whenever I go out for dinner, visit my sister (she has kids), etc... so many people ignoring each other while glued to their phones.

Maybe life was better before the lithium battery was invented but it's not going back.

All I would say, give it a go first before you lock in your 'further isolate people position'.

I'm just gonna put these there.

Keep in mind Apple hasn’t let anyone use an avp with a bt keyboard. Think of the UI with its eyes look, hands pinch or select. Now your hands are on a bt keyboard you can’t see unless you’re in AR mode. Vision Pro is going nuts trying to decide if you’re typing, trying to navigate the UI, etc.

Now I know you’re saying well Apple knows this and thoughtfully provided a seamless way of doing this. Welp who would know.

The only thing Apple has been willing to do is limited 20-30 demos that are nothing more than looking, pinching, watching some 3d videos or pics.
