I would hope the lack of "sales" would have done that for them

"At $3,500, it's not a mass-market product," said Apple CEO Tim Cook, when asked about the Vision Pro in a recent interview. "Right now, it's an early-adopter product. People who want to have tomorrow's technology today—that's who it's for. Fortunately, there's enough people who are in that camp that it's exciting."

It’s not meant to be a mass market product at that price point. It was never meant to be. Would it have been nice for Apple if it had worked out that way? Clearly. Apple sees this as something that could be a mass market product in 5 to 10 years but that won’t happen when the time comes unless there’s already a nice library of content and apps there ready to use on day one. What’s so hard to understand?

Ok, I could get behind the glasses connected to my iphone. That’s really smart. I don’t need headphones built into the Vision Pro because I can just pair my AirPods. But when I want to watch a movie or play a game, I can put on the glasses and enjoy the benefits of Vision Pro without the weight. I love this idea.

As much as we need a much cheaper device, I'm gonna say that offloading the computing power to an external device - iPhone - means that whatever version of Vision it'll come out, it'll be a stripped-down version, because no way the iPhone is powerful enough, and have enough battery juice to power an Apple Vision as great as today's. To make that happen, the screens will have lower res and lower brightness.
You could always plug in the iPhone. My question is would the Vision and iPhone communicate wireless or would they have to be tethered?

If the 1st didn't sell well at 3500 what makes them think a 2nd version would sell well for the same price ? Lol it'll either be cheaper or it won't release till 2026
These are all just rumors they have all been conflicting not always reliable take it with a grain of salt

We are getting all sorts of conflicting rumors about this thing. First we hear Apple has delayed the next Vision Pro to focus on a cheaper model (which would be smart). Now we hear the cheaper model is delayed until 2027 or later. Ming-Chi Kuo has gotten many things wrong before so I’m inclined to follow Gurman on this one as he has a better track record, particularly with Vision Pro. Here’s my thinking:

2025 / 2026: Cheaper $1999 headset with reduced resolution & Refreshed Vision Pro with M5 and no other major changes.

2027 / 2028: Next generation Vision Pro with new design and higher resolution among other changes. First update to Vision Air with higher resolution (maybe same resolution as Vision Pro 1st Gen) and new chip (A20).

2029/ 2030: New Vision SE with $799 price (same resolution as first vision air). Maybe we also see price drops for the whole line. Visio pro 2 $2899 / vision air 2 $1599

2032 and beyond: 1st generation of Vision Glass. A much smaller and slimmer body. Using transparent (auto tint) glass rather than pass through. Tints the glass to allow viewing content or immersive environments in bright areas $3499. Personally I think Apple sticks with a ski goggles type design rather than trying to mimic regular glasses, at least for the first few generations.

Kuo has been wrong alot lately he was talking about oled MacBooks for years still has not happened and 2tb iphone 16 and both have been wrong
Gurman I trust lil more but even he has been wrong lately so take it as all a grain of salt if this thing isn't selling well at 3500 then their no point in spending more to make another one to sell at the same price to watch it fail again and waste even more money

"That's something that would be roughly akin to the glasses offered by companies like Xreal. The benefit for Apple is that it would reinforce the iPhone as the center of its product ecosystem and offer something that could be a much more popular option than the $3,500 Vision Pro."

Much prefer this idea over Vision Pro. I wish Apple led with this product instead.

I'd love to know how many digits are in the number of Vision Pros sold in the US in October. 3 maybe?

Forget the price for a second, there isn't a single compelling use for this device for the average consumer. I wouldn't buy it for $999.

This device is not for the average consumer. It isn't for consumers at all.

This is a Pro device for early adopters who want access to the technology so that they can create uses for it. Don't take my word for it. Read what Tim Cook says.

Obviously it's not for you... and, of course, you are welcome to your opinion.

Others can feel differently. For a "single compelling use," I look to just about all competitors chasing bigger screens on the go. Solutions come in the form of folds, rolls and projection. Hardware like folds & rolls add weight as screen space expands. Projection suffers- often terribly- from ambient light... as would/do any of these "regular glasses" concepts (that let light in all around the edges and have transparent lenses too).

Vpro offers a high resolution, ANY-size screen on the go. One CAN easily take this "giant screen" along wherever they are. Instead of bumping into hard screen size boundaries at 16" or less as we do in MBs, tablets or phones, we can use a screen upwards of 100 FEET if it benefits us. There's no doing anything close to that with ANY fold/roll option. Projection tech can do it but you will need an ultra-dark room to be able to see that picture.

I do the bulk of my work on a 40" ultra-wide. It's far too large to toss in the bag to carry with me on the go. So, when I'm needing to compute elsewhere, the best I can do is 16". Productivity plunges as screen sizes shrink. I'd have no interest in- say- a 24" MB because that would be far larger and FAR HEAVIER. Same with MB Fold/Roll concepts. Much of my work is done during the day (daylight) and/or in well-lit offices, so any kind of projector concept wouldn't work well either.

However, THIS concept IS mobile, consistently the SAME weight at ANY screen size, and seals OUT the ambient light so I could use it in fully, sunny daylight if I wanted to do so. To me, that's quite the compelling use case: an any-size mobile screen on demand.

Many of us readily paid upwards of $2K for an ASD with stand option and that screen is basically locked in one spot for life of device. If we want one at our office or somewhere else, we have probably spent more than Vpro for 2 of them. #2 is also anchored to the other location. Vpro could stand in for either but also be available anywhere in between those 2 locations... without having to step wayyyyyy down to a 16" or smaller, mobile screen. Nobody is carrying an ASD on the plane or train and trying to use it on a tray table... but one can easily use Vpro while on the long flights/rides.

To me, that's fully a compelling use case all by itself. It's certainly a much more productive experience to have a big screen available vs. a tiny screen. If one values that added productivity enough- as they might when they own 2 ASDs (or similar) screens vs. just doing all of their work on 16" or smaller laptop screens- it may not seem like that much money.

Is it for everyone? NO- nothing is for everyone. For example, I don't even own "the precious" myself. I use a cellular iPad mini with buds & VOIP app to double as "the precious." But for anyone who is more productive when using a bigger screen and needs to regularly be away from a desktop (and the big screen TVs anchored in one spot at home), it seems more compelling- IMO anyway- than some fold/roll/projector-based option.

Expensive? Yes. But when is Apples cut at anything NOT (relatively) expensive? They are not often "richest company in the world" for nothing.

I definitely have interest in glasses that connect to an iPhone. The vision pro still has it's place for more immersive uses but light weight glasses are more practical for various common and frequent uses.

I love my Vision Pro. I might be in the minority on that based on comments I’ve seen online but it’s great. The price is something that needs to be worked on. There is definitely room for an affordable (by apple’s standards) model.

In my opinion, the affordable model should get rid of eyesight. Even on the current model it’s gimmicky as hell and looks bad. That would save some money and make the product more durable because quite a view owners have had that thin glass crack. Mine is fine, thankfully. I like that the battery isn’t apart of the headset because it saves on weight and I wouldn’t want it built into the headset even if it were made from lighter materials.

So for an affordable head set I feel like they could:

-remove eyesight.

-use plastic instead of metal.

-use gen 1 hardware or similar.

Upgrades id like to see in Vision Pro 2:

-lighter weight, maybe use titanium

-either apple designed controllers for games or support for PS5/xbox controllers. Kind of leaning towards apple designed controllers though.

-better field of view

-higher quality pass through. Kind of blurry unless you’re under bright lights.

-iPhone mirroring app like macOS.

-Ability to place apps into folders, ability to remove apps from the compatible apps folder.

-either higher resolution eye sight display or remove it all together. It doesn’t “help others connect you while in Vision Pro” in my experience. The headset still acts as a barrier between you and someone else even with the super crude animation of your eyes.

-Better battery life, but with longer chord. Display to check battery life without putting on the headset.

-iPhone/ipad app for monitoring updates and battery life.

-Keep the solo knit band. I like it a lot and don’t experience discomfort with it.

-M4

I know, but even if it was for consumers at $999 (the consumer version will be more than that), there still isn't a compelling reason for it.

At present, there are only early demonstrations of its capabilities. If you can get to an Apple Store to do a demo, then do it. You'll see that VR can be compelling for entertainment and education. No, there isn't enough content available at present to drive mainstream demand. You cannot expect there to be for a new technology. This problem isn't unique to the AVP. 8k TV has been commercially available for almost 10 years now and there is still precious little 8k content available.

Apple recently released Submerged, the first movie short shot in Immersive HDR. It is about a submarine sinking. It is the most powerful piece of video I've ever seen. Watch the Alicia Keys video. It doesn't matter whether you are a fan or not, it is compelling in a way that 2D will never duplicate.

It isn't for consumers now. But it will be. Let's hope it doesn't take as long as 8k TV is taking.

The problem with using the iPhone as a compute device to drive AR glasses is the same reason mobile VR failed; battery anxiety.

Article doesn’t really go into the capabilities of glasses though, could be anything from lightweight “smart” glasses to AR glasses and many room in between.

I have Viture glasses. Plugs into an iPhone and great for watching videos, but don't use their AR functions (many of them need another device with additional sensors, and would not be remotely comparable to Vision OS). Would be really interesting to see how small Apple could make a device with screens and sensors, but none of the Vision Pro fluff. If you need to plug in to a battery already, plugging into a compute device isn't any worse.
