I could load a short *.mov file with the WiFi method (hit the app symbol top left, slide the WiFi-switch and typed the URL http://192.168… that shows up into the MacBook Safari's address field). A webpage "VLC for iOS file uploader" opened in Safari. I dropped a file on that Safari window, the upload to iPad 4 started immediately and was pretty fast. When it was ready a thumbnail picture of the movie appeared in VLC for iOS. Played well with sound on iPad. Cool tempo and image quality controls in the player field. Full screen with aspect ratio info top right.
But that was it. Further attempts of uploads via WiFi didn't work (mp3, jpg, avi). Sometimes it seemed that a thumbnail image laid above another. The app didn't react any more (black screen, no input possible). Had to kill VLC for iOS via home button and multitasking bar. Opened again, only the first *.mov file showed up (and played fine), but no more uploads (had to switch WiFi on once more) were possible.
