I could load a short *.mov file with the WiFi method (hit the app symbol top left, slide the WiFi-switch and typed the URL http://192.168… that shows up into the MacBook Safari's address field). A webpage "VLC for iOS file uploader" opened in Safari. I dropped a file on that Safari window, the upload to iPad 4 started immediately and was pretty fast. When it was ready a thumbnail picture of the movie appeared in VLC for iOS. Played well with sound on iPad. Cool tempo and image quality controls in the player field. Full screen with aspect ratio info top right.

But that was it. Further attempts of uploads via WiFi didn't work (mp3, jpg, avi). Sometimes it seemed that a thumbnail image laid above another. The app didn't react any more (black screen, no input possible). Had to kill VLC for iOS via home button and multitasking bar. Opened again, only the first *.mov file showed up (and played fine), but no more uploads (had to switch WiFi on once more) were possible.

Just played an episode of Game of Thrones in 720p (mkv file) through VLC on my iPhone 5 and it worked flawlessly. Very happy with this.

I am looking for this on the Australian store. And I can't seem to find it. I can only find VLC streaming apps, but not the official VLC app. Is it still on the Australian iOS store and if so is it just called "VLC" or does it have another name?

Yep, I'm in Western Australia ... it's gone - agaaaain!

I could not find it in the store search (US - east coast) - but using the link on the first page of this thread - I got it just fine.

Not installing it just yet - as the original still functions for me - but wanted it just in case...

I used the direct link just now and it still says not available for me... I'm in the east coast.

Just worked for me. Used the direct link in the OP. The other option is to search for 'VLC for IOS'. Everything else there isn't the right one.

EDIT: I'm in Northern California (Sacramento).

BL.

Interesting... I just tried the link again, and now it is telling me it isn't available
Glad I grabbed it while I could :)

I would think it will get sorted out over the next day or so

I tried it again just now and it worked!:D

Working perfect for me even on ipad 3! 720p mkv videos are working fine no stuttering. But gonna continue to stream from my computer using Plex & Airvideo though.

Is there a way to stop vlc for ios from playing subtitles automatically? I always have to disable it via the onscreen option or is there something I can do on my computer first to remove the Track 1 - [English] on the mkv file?

Thanks

interesting to note that it's a separate app from the 'old' VLC that was available years ago (i found both installed on my iPhone & iPad)

Not yet on iTunes West Coast, don't know if that matters though. Also, no on PC but ipad so maybe that has something to do? In any case, hope it becomes available soon
