The app was available here in NZ before I went to have breakfast... I've since come back and the app is now no longer available...

That was quick!

I'm getting a "not available" message too (NZ store).

Edit: Working now :)

To those who already had the "old" VLC, is this a new product or will it show up as an upgrade to the existing VLC?

I downloaded the new vlc and my old vlc app is still there and it wasn't overwritten. :D

A lot of speculation of why it's possible to distribute it on app store now.

So the major change is that they've bi-licensed it with gpl and mpl. And Mozilla public license is compatible with app store. So don't blame this french guy, as far as I understand he was "right", gpl is still problematic with app store.

Of course you can blame him. It was his decision whether he wanted people to be able to use the app or not. And he decided he didn't want people to use it. I always thought that GPL was about getting your software into the hands of as many users and developers as possible, but for some people that excludes iOS users. The whole problem wasn't created by Apple, but by this guy complaining.

Just set it up and it looks like you have to convert the movies to play just like air video. Not really that big of a deal i guess.

That doesn't sound right. You definitely using the proper app, not the streamer app or one of the other unofficial VLC apps?

You're right I got duped. I thought it was the VLC Streamer because that is all that would show up when I did a search for VLC. I even paid the $1.99 also, Dang:mad:

For the people talking about AV Player HD, a recent update to that app removed the ability to airplay video. So if you're looking for any reason why VLC would be better, theres a fairly big one.

It's called "VLC for iOS", by "VideoLAN", and is free. It's 16.7 MB.

So how do you actually get videos into it? It tells me to "use iTunes" to synch files which would imply that it should pick up the same videos as the Videos app. If that's the case, why is nothing showing up inside VLC?

Just d/l to my iPhone 4S and tried playing Wildlife.wmv the 720p sample video in Windows7 and it can't play it - severe stuttering, blockiness and freezing :-(

Not in Australian store

Hmm. I did a search for VLC for iOS and got no results in the Australian store. Has it been pulled again?

For some reason, at least in the NZ store, "vlc for ios" doesn't return any results, but it's listed as the 4th hit for just "vlc".

Edit: You can also get it by searching for "videolan", in which case it's the only hit.

Got it from the NZ app store for my iPad. Sound output doesn't seem to work properly, it is all garbled & distorted. Also it doesn't seem to play MP3 files.

Now I can't download it onto my computer via iTunes. Maybe it has been removed from the store already
