Can someone tell me if this new DirectX support will allow the Aero Feature of Vista to Run?

I use Fusion and Love it.

Thanks,

Dante

I currently use Parallels 3.0 just because it has so many more options than Fusion. I own both but for networking at school I like that I can directly connect it VIA wireless or Ethernet. Maybe I just dont see it on Fusion but I really want to like Fusion but Parallels seem to always be a step ahead but not right now.

Im sure Parallels will be coming out with their beta soon.

Please chime in and tell my your thoughts?

fusion is awesome i must say, but if youre going to do anything else on your mac while using it i suggest 4gb ram (or higher if you've got the right system). i have SR mbp that came with 2gb ram, used fusion but only had 500mb given to xp pro. bumped up to 4gb ram last week, gave xp 1gb, both mac and xp are flying, and i can multi task much more efficiently.

also cant wait to try out the multi monitor support

Is this like a beta, where after some time, you can't use it anymore? Does it work on tiger?

Running even a 6 year old game like Warcraft III is still sluggish on my C2D MacBook Pro. Anyone know why? I have 2GB of RAM too, so I doubt it's that. Video card is ok (X1600). I get like 5-10fps.

directx 9 games...

anybody have a chance to try the new beta with any new games (e.g. call of duty, bioshock, team fortress)? Just curious as to if this is a viable option for playing some games while booted in OS X.

(Nice To Meet You) Anyway

When Boot Camp arrived, I was like, WOW. I can use Windows on my Mac.

When Parallels arrived, I was like, WOW. I can use Windows on my Mac at the same time.

I'm not sure I get it much anymore though. I have one program that seems it will never move to Mac (Versacheck), and some files I'd like to archive as pdf's from Win software I no longer use <cough>Quark<cough>, so I tried the Fusion Beta this morning.

Yes, it takes forever to install. Even without debugging there's a bothersome lag. Fusion takes forever to start, requires my admin password, and has thrown me into BSOD after refusing to close. I can't set a Mac file to default open in a Windows program in Fusion (this would be the coolest feature I would like), so there's an unnecessary amount of hunting around required to do anything. Sure, seeing Windows Explorer on my Leopard desktop is a thrill for about 30 seconds, but the "Your computer may be at risk" "Do you want to activate Windows again?" popups--not so much.

If I want to use "real Windows," I can use Boot Camp. I'm even needing Versacheck less and less--who writes checks these days? Invest another $80 in a World of Windows? Parallels/Fusion is a nifty idea, but maybe just not that useful for my needs after all--I'll file it away with other novelties like Evernote... and GM's EV1.

:(

(Oh Gawd, I just put a music cd in and XP's "You put a cd in, do you want to import, play, show, play, copy, open folder, take no action???" dialog pops up. Windows in Fusion refuses to let my Mac or iTunes see the cd drive. This is why I loved Windows. Selfish bastard.)

...

To be fair, this is beta software. It should be more stable on final release.

Personally, I'm tired of mucking around with unstable versions of both Parallels and Fusion. I'll be waiting for the released version of Fusion 2.0 before I even look at it (actually, I'll probably wait for at least one patch after that ). Parallels is working for what I need to do for now, so that's what I'll stick with.

Installed the beta and now XP Pro hangs at "Loading your personal settings" :(

Any way to revert to the previous version??

I love Fusion, but this build took some steps back. The icons for one got uglier.. how do you do that???

But the really, really bad thing is after shutdown of fusion and reboot of computer it starts up vmnet-dhcp, vmnet-netbios, and about 3 other NETWORK PROCESSES that COMPLETELY go around OS X for sending out data. You could lock down your firewall, or other stuff and these stupid background apps open up ports.

Huge security risk, especially running them as root, hello vmware? what are you guys thinking. We were able to come up with about 3 different (so far small) exploits that allowed me to push packets to the macbook pro so far.

Give me a bit more time, and I'll be hacking a locked down mac shortly remotely on anyone who ever ran that software.

Activation problems

The main issue is the activation not being recognized under both environments (Boot Camp and Fusion). Switching back and forth will prompt you to re-activate every time. You can temporarily avoid the issue for a few months by keeping Vista unactivated and resetting your 30-day trial period (although you can only do that 3 times). I'm only doing this until they fix the problem, then I'll go ahead and activate.

I've also had this problem with Vista not wanting to activate under VMWare Fusion. Good to know I'm not the only one!

Wpf

Hi guys!

Did anybody test Fusion 2 with Visual Studio 2008 / WPF yet? I'm using 1.1.2 now, and whenever I activate 3D acceleration, everything WPF looks strange. Without 3D it's pretty slow, though :(

On Windows XP? Disable the debug option in Prefs and try the game again.

I run a bootcamped Vista Ultimate 64 (SP1) under Fusion and it's been OK for me. Just needed to tweak the vmx settings a bit.

I did the same and uninstalled Fusion when I had to activate Vista 64. I hope they hurry up with a fix.

indeed

i have loved vm since i beta tested the 1.1 just about 3 or 4 months ago? was it longer? since then my machine has an extra 2 gig of ram that seems to work well (from owc) but i also am not using windows or linux for anything anymore. i have one application that i would like to see work perfectly through darwine, otherwise, it is 80$ spent on something i really would not work.

please darwine, get utopiaagnel working properly!

Please be sure to submit a bug report for that! Opening ports without my permission is not cool.
