Void Linux for PowerPC

I get that nouveau has many limitations (1 2) (as so many closed sourced things when using open source OS), but this is nVidia fault primarily. AMD "seems more friendly to open source" so the devs could port it to PPC little endian.

Some search because my grand mothers heritage (or even before her) it's from Russia, but I don't know anything (although I think really cool the language, alphabet etc)

BTW, you can place config for video not only in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d, but else at /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/. Anyway, I have nothing in both places about GeForce.

The Problem is something in the install or config

Ubuntu Live DVD: Nouveau NV driver
Void Linux Live DVD: Nouveau NV driver
Void Installation: llvmpipe software render

@dextructor, AMDGPU is more or less recent driver. Previous Radeon cards uses obviously open-source radeon (AFAIK dead for now) & radeonhd drivers. Closed-source firegl never existed for ppc64 AFAIK, same as nvidia. (Any way we have to be grateful to people who at least made possible to use this drivers with PowerMacs at all).

What can I say... You'll need to dig deeper with configs & logs... (Btw, Ubuntu & likes was never something good for me, quickly jumped to Deb from it & to Gentoo - but several years later).

Problem found!

The config file, i created in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ is the "problem"

Without this file i will get the nouveau driver (tested with FX5200) but without the "ShadowFB" command inside this file my 6800 Ultra is not working.

It seems that nouveau works with it not so good as with 5200.

I must say, glxgears also have glitches with the 5200.

After many GPUs I must say, Linux is not made for a GUI.

GF FX5200 = glitches in OpenGL
GF 6800 Ultra = only Software acceleration
GF 7800 GS = sometimes hanging on shut down

ATI Radeon 9600 = no acceleration in login screen, working ok in System
ATI Radeon 9800 = no acceleration in login screen, working ok in System
ATI Radeon X800 = not supported, don’t know why

dmesg |grep -i nouveau is comming, when I’m back on the G5 (which GPU?)

I successfully tested the RC3 of kernel 5.15 with Void PPC in a virtual e5500 QEMU machine today.

Void starts very fast because of the runit init system in this virtual machine.

QEMU command:

I have a problem with the keyboard in Void. After a start of programs like the pdf viewer (other programs, too) some keys don’t work in Terminal until I log out and in. One key for example is the return and enter key.

Keyboard setting is Apple, German with no accents.

Can anyone confirm this and have a solution?

I don't know what are your definition for good, because when Thunderbird "modernized" the interface I believe this year I didn't like and feel bloated, so YMMV.

I remember some clients available for our distro besides Thunderbird and Mutt.

I released a new Void PPC img with a boot and root partition including the void-installer for the A-EON AmigaOne X1000 and X5000 today.

No installer. Just extract anywhere and run the binary, or manually install it and create a .desktop file for it.

Edit: YouTube will lock the browser up until you make these changes in about:config. The video colors are reversed still, but this will prevent a lockup.

I recommend using gtk-straw-viewer if you want to watch youtube videos. (xbps-install gtk-straw-viewer)

I don't get interweb G5/BE glibc to work noting afer double klick interweb or interweb-bin

i know, i click it wrong ;)

Arctic fox is running well.
