In my case, my unlimited data contract is in effect until May of 2013, so i am good till then. If they do decide to end my unlimited after the contract runs out, than I will just sign a new contract in order to get a subsidized phone, sell it and use that to recoup part of what i am going to spend on the non-subsidized iPH5.

It is jumping through a few hoops, but I think on LTE I need to try and keep my unlimited.

Oh, I agree. For me I'm on AT&T so I'll get throttled if I use too much, but I'd rather that happen then get an overage charge so that's why I stay on unlimited (though to be fair I probably don't need unlimited cause I tend to use less than 2 GBs a month, certainly less than 3 GB).

And didn't think about doing something like that (selling the subsidized one to pay partly for the full price iphone). Though honestly if I were in your shoes I'd be waiting until the 2013 iphone (That's what I did, I could have gotten a 4S in February but seeing as I would be stuck with the phone for 2 years I wanted the phone to be a pretty new design when I got it so I waited til the 5 came out).

Can you please go into a little more detail on this. What plan did you have, did you do all of this on the website.

I had the unlimited data plan with an iPhone 4s (that I plan to sell). I added a line on the website and bought a subsidized iPhone 5 and set the Plan up as an individual plan, although I'm not sure that matters.

Obviously, the Verizon customer service person could be wrong, but they said they have given this advice out before, and I believe she mentioned that she has worked at a store and this worked.

There is a lot of conflicting information/advice on this thread, so obviously until someone gets the phone and actually follows through with it fully, we won't know. However, people have said that they have tried this before.

Thank you for that, just to be sure you had the individual unlimited data plan.

And you did all of this from the website or on the phone?

I have a 4 now not the 4s, so the 5 will be a very good upgrade for me.

I dance around the 2GB range now so i expect to use more on LTE (maybe 3 or 4GB), so i want to keep the unlimited as long as i can. Also the plan i have now is $88 a month so if i move to one of the new shared plans i will be paying more.

What if your still on that promo for your current line and pay 67 a month for your bill? Will adding a new line screw that all up? That's what I'm trying to avoid. I can pay 199 now for the phone on current line but don't want to mess up what I have

did you get to keep your origional phone number?

No, you are just plain WRONG.

I just added a dumb phone account on a NEW line and I have an existing unlimited account. I was able to keep my unlimited, and when I upgrade my dumb phone account tonight to an iPhone 5 it will not effect my unlimited account with my current line.

Hope this helps people. Can't wait until 12 am!

did you keep your old phone number??

I had the unlimited individual plan and I bought the iPhone 5 from the website. It sounds like once I get the phone the rest can be done over the phone or at the store.

Got my IP5 with unlimited 4G.... Boom!

did you do the add a line thing?

----------

Yes, and I kept my unlimited data. Why wouldn't I be able to keep my old phone number?

FYI I did this same thing last year with the 4S. It works.

Cause i was thinking with adding a new line they would force you to change the # or something. I'm going to do that then. Sounds like the best option.

Well this sounds like what im going to do as well. i am going to be kind of a chicken and wait til like the first week of October, just to see how the whole process shakes out for you brave souls who paved the way.

i just confirmed that this will work (adding a line solution) with a friend of mine who is a store manager at verizon. However, he did say they perform audits and they might take the unlimited plan away. Something to think about.

um, this thread is full of fail.

the moment you try to activate your iP5 on verizon regardless of which line, you will be automatically switched over to shared plan. i know you all WISH it can work but it will not.

Just trying to dampen expectations on this thread that is full of misinformation

you are incorrect sir

Something to think about. Hopefully they don't remove the unlimited. Are they even allowed to do that? The upgraded line will still be active and being paid for.

I'm just saying by the time your upgrade comes around the 5 is going to be a little old (I'm not saying it's a bad upgrade from the 4, I got a 4 too ;) ).

just called verizon and asked about using an upgrade from another line, and switching over my line to keep unlimited data.

they told me that switching over would result in going to a fixed data plan and losing the unlimited.

no idea if the rep is accurate or not...

we have been hearing numerous things from all the reps. case is they dont know ****

The discount only applies to the base $70's, not the additional $40 for smartphone/$10 for tablets. So they are not only increasing the price of the plans, they are further limiting the impact of corporate discounts.

I ran this my discount and pricing through a rep via chat and saved the whole conversation. I will be calling Verizon to to make sure I don't get too screwed here. I could always cancel my order.

I ended up going with the 32GB 5 and getting the share everything with 4GB that i will share with my ipad. It will be 130 dollars which I confirmed with the rep would be 22% discounted to nearly what I am paying now for both services. Even if not I was paying 96 dollars a month for service between the phone and the ipad so worst case and the discount doesn't apply to the 40+10 for phone and ipad I am increasing my payments to 112. 16 dollars more which is still half of what it works out to if I bought unsubsidized iphone5 and only 6 dollars more if I had tried to add a line (not to mention having to find or buy a dumbphone to put on the dummy line). My ipad rarely leaves home and is 3G so I don't think I will go over 4GB but even if I do another 10 bucks for 6GB doesn't scare me too much.

I would have liked to keep unlimited but it seemed like a lot of work and then my luck I would find out next year that they just abolish it regardless because that is always a very very good possibility.

I'll try to post an image from home, work setting don't allow.

I have a document "Updated Service Summary" in my "Documents and Receipts" link that shows 22% access discount to the base $70 fee for 4GB's and no discount applied to the $80 fee for two smart phones.

My discount now: $15.40
My discount on my $110 family share plan: $24.20

If you see or get billed otherwise, please let me know!

You do have unlimited data and are not being forced into a limited data plan if you buy the phone unsubsidized. The choice is yours to give up your unlimited data.

AT&T lets their customers keep unlimited data. Verizon instead makes their customers go through loopholes or buy an unsubsidized device to keep it. It is ridiculous.

I agree. But you know what is more ridiculous, is that ATT offers you unlimited data at 5GB on LTE. Plus make you switch data plans to use FaceTime.

i have Verizon UDP and pre-order with Apple. if I have any issues with phone I don't have to pay for restocking fee plus The 30days they offer.

Can I order via Apple using a line with eligible upgrade and then activating it on my line with the unlimited data?

I'm not sure if Apple has similar policies like Walmart, Best Buy, or Amazon if you don't keep the phone on the line that you upgraded with, you will incur some sort of fees.
