Agree with OP. I will wait for the 2020 iPhone which will likely have a Qualcomm modem and 5G. I had better cellular reception on my Qualcomm iPhone X than my current intel XS Max.

iPhone 11 Super Retina xdr display doesn’t even have 90hz or 120hz refresh rate. Maybe 2020 will. Other phones have done 120hz with reasonable battery use.

Debating whether or not I can get by on my iPhone 8 for another year. The Lifeproof case is falling apart and when I record videos I get a static noise added. The noise doesn't from the case or from dust, I've tried eliminating those in my testing, so not sure what's causing it.
But, if I don't upgrade to something, I'm left with a phone that needs a new case and a phone that records undesirable audio.

i think if people have the money and like what apple offers face id big size screen phones and notch and great camera and faster processor go for it! some like me we like what we like finger scanner to unlock and small size i don’t like notch so those ones like me will have to wait

Seriously nothing has changed that matters... Unless you're upgrading from a potato wait a year or two for the next iPhone. This phone smells like iPhone XSS... It's not going to make sure you feel great like the iPhone 4, 5, and 6 did...

It’ll make me feel just fine. You think the changes don’t matter doesn’t make that the case for everyone else.

This is exactly why Apple doesn’t release features right away, even if android counterparts do. Apple doesn’t want to have “reasonable” battery, they want great battery. If higher refresh means diminishing the work they’ve done with their chips to improve battery, then why do it? They want their features to work very well, not just work.

$600 for trade in of my Xs Max is somewhat of a slap in the face, as well as only $100 for my series 4 watch.

So the only proposition that makes sense is if I want to join the perpetual yearly upgrade crowd by leasing my iPhone. Which I really don't. Still, I'm very sad to not have the latest iPhone any more. That is more of a personal thing, than anything else, but it's still real.

The battery life, and slofies, and wide angle and Night Mode are compelling but are they $600 compelling...

The common sense side of me, knows that these are horrible deals, but here I am still debating if I want to upgrade. What to do!?

Sigh, someone dispense some advice LOL!!!

I will probably wait another year to upgrade from my iPhone 7 Plus. I really wanted to get the XS Max at a reduced price, after the newer phones were released. But apparently they are not offering it for sale on the Apple website.

You can sell it for more private party. Companies aren’t going to give you private market value for your trade in, just like I’m not going to get private market value on my motorcycle if I trade it to a dealer even though I put valuable upgrades on it.

I’m getting $800 for my 64gb Max for both myself and my wife. Already sold yesterday.

What do you consider a major/great upgrade? Oh right it looks the same and only looks matter. It is faster, better battery life, better face-id, major camera updates, etc.

Which is why I'm going to get both. I'm just going to do iUP and trade it in next year. I have an iPhone X and I'm itching for a faster phone, better/brighter screen, better camera, and dual-SIM. I don't really want to wait another year. Maybe I'll keep and pay off the 2020, but I suspect the 2021 will have some refinement that entices me to trade once again.
I am going to keep the iPhone X and return the 11 Pro if the Intel Modem or antenna proves to be crap.

Apple is a public corporation and their goals are to make money for their stockholders. How much do you think research and programming costs Apple and others How many features they want to do - just don't work and the costs have to be absorbed. Since Apple probably has among the highest legal costs among major companies and we have to pay those also. I'm sure that Apple is also looking to the implementation of tariff's in mid-Dec and these prices will have to cover that also
Not saying I love paying current prices for Apple products but it isn't just rip offs.

I remember the days I got my 4, 5 and 6. It made me feel so great! Like the iPhone King! The 7 made me feel good, but in more of a mild, chicken soup and warm hug on a cold day kind of way. I’m thinking if I got the 11 or 11 Pro I’d feel like I was just driving an old car down the road to a job that I only find bearable. But how dare you suggest my potato is no good. In my opinion, the potato was THE BEST iteration of all time, even if it’s only filled with carbohydrates today.

So, the OP who bestowed his/her genius on the forums of how the new phones are lame and offer nothing over a potato.... is an SE user. Yes, aside from the preference of a small phone, the new phones are barely upgrades at all over an SE lol.

I love the forums

I am staying with my XS Max 512. It does everything I need and the money I save will go into retirement. I plan to retire early, so my priorities are different from those that want to upgrade every year. Each person has different priorities driving their decisions. None of us can tell another person to buy or not buy something.

Sadly I'm on the at&t prepaid plan so I have to buy my phones outright, currently on the iPhone XS Max, I don't see a reason to upgrade. Unless I was an IG model and I absolutely needed a better camera then i'd do it. But for the simple reason of getting a better camera and an additional hour of battery life for me it doesn't warrant spending over 1k for a new phone. To those that will upgrade then good for you guys, enjoy your phones. I'll be waiting next year for the new form factor.
