I know it will have a smaller jump, but it will be a bigger jump for me if i skip the SB...IF I SKIP...we'll see if I can resist the awesomeness.
I also started checking out 17" MB Pros recently, so maybe....

indeed, these new machines are very nice, but depending on what you already have they may not really be necessary. Unless you are wishing your computer was faster right now, I'd hold off on upgrading until you feel that your current mac is too slow!

I'd be fine if they just announced it for pre-orders. Even if it doesn't actually ship for a few more weeks. I can dream.

apple typically only allows pre-orders on new products after a press announcement. With the last mbp refresh apple just refreshed them, didn't hold any type of event or allow preorders, the iMac refresh will likely be the same!

Which do you guys think new iMac will have desktop SB or mobile SB?

I have a feeling it'll be mobile ones somehow...

All the hoping is great, but let's be honest, no major new rumors is an unfortunate sign that tomorrow may not be the day.

I'm a professional photographer whose computer just croaked, so trust me, I'd much rather it be tomorrow, but I'm not hopeful. If it's not soon, I'll have to get a current model one and suck it up, because I have to be able to process these images, but I'd rather wait and get a better computer. I hate being caught in between.

I'd expect the 27'' to have desktop without a question. The 21.5'' is a different story, Apple might want to cut down on heat in there.

But I think they could squeeze a desktop in there considering the iMac G5 wasn't that much thicker and had a G5 inside.

Definitely desktop. There is no viable reason to use mobile

I know, I want it too. However I can't help thinking like it'll be a bit hard to achieve enough air flows in that thin body against heat desktop models make. And they're mad about power consumptions too.

Wont happen so soon since it's a 2009 i5 Quad...but yeah i guess you are right.

and why wouldn't that also be a cause to use notebook cpus instead of desktop cpus? ;)

CPUs don't have that high TDP. The ones in iMacs have TDP of 73W or 95W. A high-end desktop GPU alone can suck over 200W. The more power it uses, the hotter it runs. In general, GPUs have higher TDPs than CPUs and since iMac is such a limited machines in terms of space and cooling, there is simply no space for a desktop GPU and its cooling. Desktop CPU works because their TDPs are not that high, especially when compared with GPUs.

perhaps it could but the fact that they use desktop cpu's now in the iMac doesn't leave any evidence that they would suddenly want to switch to mobile cpu's...

iMacs have more room and don't have to worry about power constraints, nor battery space as they are DESKTOPS and always plugged in. There is no reason to believe apple would suddenly just plop mobile cpu's inside of their desktop lineup.

What are the chances of a graphics card update with the refresh? I'm hoping for a Radeon 5870 in the 27" iMac.

Chances are excellent. But they'll move to the 6000 series of cards.
That's very good news. I just sold my Dell and I'm looking forward to switching to an iMac. I hope it happens sooner rather than later because my main computer 'till the refresh will be my iPad.

Will the new 2011 iMacs have this bothersome yellow tint issue?

Yes, Apple confirmed this recently. Sorry.

:D Thanks that made my day.

I cant understand this, u asked him if the future iMacs will have the same issue than now, he told u that apple confirmed it, and u a smile and answer that? It has no sense.

Anyway i dont think apple will keep selling iMac with the same issue, or they will lose a lot of money changing them, in case u dont know, apple changed/repaired all the iMacs with that issue, and NOT ALL THE IMACS HAD IT.

You don't understand it? You don't see the humor in bellman's tongue-in-cheek answer? It would be like someone asking if Toyota was planning on putting sticking accelerators in their next model of cars and someone else answering in the affirmative. I'm sure Apple won't plan on putting some type defect in. Some times it happens but it's not planned and if you've been around Apple very long you know that they (Apple) never discuss upcoming models, projects, OS's, etc. That's why I found bellman's answer so good. I assume I read it for what it was worth. Oh and BTW I wasn't asking about it. I was just commenting on the answer. I'm going to go way far out on a limb and figure Apple won't include it if they can help it.

The refurb 27" quad core i5 for $1,700 was too tempting. I'm running on a 5 year old MacBook and needed more power and couldn't wait any longer. I also couldn't stand the 13" screen anymore.

Unless the new refresh happens soon and blows everyone out of the water I'll be fine for a few years. With no hints of a refresh except for a few weeks ago I feel pretty safe. I wanted to wait, but my patience ran out.

Dang fellow waiters, weve lost another one =(

And isnt the i5 imac 2000$?

I'm waiting for the update so I can buy the current model discounted or pick up a refresh even cheaper.

Gotta get rid of that windows pc in the family room!!!
