Wait... Tethering is available for use on the iPhone 4 through AT&T?
Apple.com said:
Does the iPhone support tethering?
Yes. You can share the fast 3G connection on your iPhone with your Mac or PC and connect to the Internet from just about anywhere — no Wi-Fi required. Just select the 2GB + Tethering data plan when you set up your AT&T account.
I am probably very late on the news, but when was this announced? I always thought it was unavailable for use on the iPhone? What are the prices for tethering?

iPad won't support tethering.

What I think stinks about AT&T is I'd happily go to a metered plan if it included both iPad and iPhone. 2gb is 2gb, right? Why is it only for this gadget or that gadget? Oh right... AT&T wants more of my money.

My theory was the fact that the ipad and iphone were being released so close together, both being the only devices with microsims AND from the same company, that you were going to be able to share your data

Anyways, nobody will know for sure but i bet that you can still take your iphone 4 sim out and put it in your ipad and itll work, apple just doesnt want to mention it because the data is AT&T's business

on an unrelated note,
jailbreaking is amazing for these reasons and its why i don't see how people waste their phones not getting to use these amazing features

tethering and mobile hotspots for free *drools*
i look like such a pro supplying the internet for like 4 laptops on roadtrips and hotel rooms

you think at&t will become more strict on the unlimited data people being grandfathered in when it looks like we are using tethering? i hope not

Wrong,

I called AT&T and they said that you can buy tethering even if you are getting grandfathered in.

If have have an iPhone and want tethering you would have to switch-out of your current Unlimited data plan; once you switch, you can't go back...

The plan is 2GB + tethering, period.

Okay you can call for yourself.

I called 3 times and they said that you can tether on an unlimited data plan.

I don't have to call considering that I am CSR for AT&T:rolleyes:.

That's weird.

I just called also, because this sounded bogus. She told me the same thing... you cannot tether with unlimited. Someone is throwing out bogus info! It would not make sense for them to allow that either. Trust me, I wish they would... but oh well! Obviously, if someone wants to jailbreak their phone to do it, that's their prerogative... but AT&T is saying it is not allowed under the unlimited plan unless you want to be charged seperately for it.

Do not let anyone fool you. If you add tethering you will no longer be grandfathered!!

Dude shutup,

All your saying is not to let anyone fool him. You have no proof whatsoever your just calling it i actually said that i called AT&T 3 TIMES how about you call them and talk to them about it before calling someone out hmmm..?

Seriously? No need to jump down his throat. He's not calling you out. You are calling him out... with horrible grammar too. Relax man.

The fact is, tethering isn't allowed on unlimited plans. Yes, you can use it, but you will be charged seperately for it. It always was that way and seemed very suspect to me that you called 3 times and they all told you they could. I actually had the lady look up the policy and she said the charges are not covered under the unlimited plan.

1. Who really cares about grammar? This is a rumors forum.

2. That's not entirely what i was trying to exclaim, what i'm saying is you can have tethering and keep your unlimited data plan.

Wow! And who are you. I have worked for ATT for 11 years now and I know for a fact. I was not calling out anyone just stating a fact. So before you want to tell someone to shut up, you should know what you are taking about.
