Why are there Space Invaders on the ceiling?

Super WIN! LMAO! I didn't even notice the similarities until you mentioned it. What makes it funny is someone will post "what you talking about?" and not know what Space Invaders is without a websearch (I refuse to help advertise for gxxgle without being paid each time typing it). ;)

I know I hated Lion before but I'm really looking forward to more focus on Mac!! The PC is NOT dead yet - and will not die as its the top form of creating content and programming for mobile devices and other platforms.

SO let me get this straight. The Developers who work with software which has been pointed out ad nauseum, and who are the main attendees of this event are not going to show up because this WWDC is rumored to be all software, not hardware. Then, to combat this problem, Apple invites more non-developers to attend so that they can see the unveiling of all this new software which in all likelihood they will care about far less than a new iPhone or something and are MUCH more likely than developers to label the event as disappointing if it does in fact lack any hardware.

It sounds like you think WWDC is attended by apple fans/techies who want to know the latest apple products rather than people who develop software for these products.

I hope I'm not coming up with too many points to agree with your perspective here.

No you didn't get it straight.

But maybe the use of punctuations will help me understand what you're saying. I think every knows WWDC is for developers, hence iOS 5 and Lion, but the new addition is iCloud, so they will be the actual focus of the conference, so they will be there. I'm not saying there won't be any hardware in this year's WDDC, there might, but it most probably won't be the iPhone.

Oh it sounds like that? Well i guess you heard wrong, because i think the quite opposite. I was merely just saying that to people who were talking about the iPhone being released in WWDC this year.

No one cares about that dumb cloud ****. Its not even original. If you are right, they are setting themselves up for a lot of bad publicity.

Yeah, you're right, no one cares. That's why it keeps getting tech blog coverage even before it's officially unveiled.

I have a hard time believing that Apple would release a completely-revamped iPhone model without it being LTE. And as we learned in the Verizon announcement, the technology isn't quite there yet.

I think an LTE iPhone is still at least a year away...and an HSPA+ iPhone makes perfect sense. Here's why:

LTE - huge battery drain and low coverage area by this fall

HSPA+ would give very fast performance on the iOS platform as the iPhone4 has already proven that its browser on standard 3G is nearly as fast as many "4G" smartphones. I have an Atrix4G and it is very fast on 4G...despite not being LTE due to the dual core processor and gig of RAM. If Apple were to bring out "4G" HSPA+ iPhone this summer that was as fast in real life performance as the battery hogging LTE devices with 2-3 times the battery life as the LTE devices - no one would complain. Sure - that would mean the Verizon iPhone would be slower than the other iPhones on AT&T - but it would be a win for most iPhone customers.

HSPA + would work on other Carriers besides AT&T - so the 4G device would be able to be pushed out on other carriers and still benefit from the increased speed that HSPA+ offers over 3G.

I can see Jobs standing up there saying that the new iPhone is the fastest phone on the market with the longest battery life...without LTE. It would be a major play for both Apple and AT&T.

And if Apple throws in a 4" screen and 64GB of memory...I would switch to the iPhone from my beloved 48GB 4" dual core Atrix.

June 6th, 2011 - ??? (when they have every motivation to catch us off guard in response to June 2010)

I have actually thought the same thing. Can you imagine Jobs saying...oh and one more thing before we leave...here is the next iPhone...the tech world would come to a halt with such a move to keep the next phone so secret after last year.

I wouldn't put it past Jobs. Especially if you consider Jobs is in poor health and he doesn't know how he will be feeling later this year. If you have the phone...you introduce it while you can.

You really need to give it up. There will be no new iPhone on Monday.
You don't know that for sure. There wasn't much info leaked about the 3GS before the official announcement either. The only hardware shots we got were the matte-black backs which didn't even end up in the final product. Perhaps the new phone once again retains the same form factor, so any "in the wild" shots wouldn't prove anything.

The one thing that makes me think that the phone will launch later than usual is that iOS 5 hasn't been shown to the public yet. However, Apple very well could be separating the hardware and software cycles - note that it's no longer called "iPhone OS."

Apple put out the press release in order to stress that there will not be any hardware at WWDC.

And anyone thinking that it'll be a "One more thing" are pushing it. Before the update to the Apple TV there wasn't a "One more thing" for a long time.

Many theorize that's why Apple put out a pre-announcement as they have never done so before.
And many others falsely represent that as fact.

I will ask again, why if they were trying to prepare people for no iPhone as they have become accustomed to, would they not come right out and say that there would not be an iPhone at WWDC?

Really? I didn't see them say anything about hardware or lack thereof.
Swede got it above me. Apple never pre-announces what they're putting in a keynote. By reiterating that this WWDC keynote will be about software and iCloud reinforces the word that's been trickled out of Cupertino to Apple's favorite press that there will be no new hardware at WWDC.

i don't think Apple ever mentioned to the mass that the iPhone will be updated every year at WWDC. But you can say that this could year be the same. However, it's not, Apple did the unbelievable and came out and told everyone what they'll be focusing on at WWDC. That has been taken by people as a sign that there won't be an iPhone released this year.

Anything is possible, but it is very unlikely that there will be an iPhone 5 released tomorrow.

At first I thought I was really reaching with this theory but the more I think about it the more I suspect that this is a one time unique situation.

What you said in addition to the fact that nobody has really valid counter arguments in context that this is a very weird cycle.

Ok lets put ourselves in the shoes of the people in the meeting(or whatever) where they decided the release date. They might have said: "ok we are releasing it June 6 but we need to keep it secret. After the way the iPhone 4 was leaked, I don't want to set the precedent that Apple no longer is in control of their privacy and leaks. What will it take to keep the iPhone 5 secret until released?"

"well we can release decoy rumors?" one might say.

"we can clamp down with controlled leaks and by a process of elimination we can get rid of any moles and ensure an even higher level of company secrecy in this era where apple and it's secret info is more valuable and sought after as Internet news then ever"

Ok so what would it take to release it on the same day as usual, but without anybody expecting it.

"well we can imply that WWDC is gonna be about iOS and other new releases this time before WWDC and if everyone is convinced there will not be a phone, people will try less hard to sniff it out"

"brilliant..."

Again, the pre-announcement announcements can be interpreted 2 ways...

I'm assuming for the same reason there's a picture of a lion on the left side. Apple will obviously bring in a living lion to the keynote. Obviously that has to be it, because it doesn't say OS X Lion anywhere..

Exactly how I thought about it.

It's either a brilliant cover up, or a way to make people less disappointed when they DON'T actually have an iPhone 5 to announce.

I had that thought as a roadblock too but then I dismissed it because if the theory were true, it would still be done the same way. The lion represents lion, the cloud represents icloud, the 5 represents iOS BUT IS LEFT VAGUE ENOUGH to where if they DID release it, nobody would consider them liars...

And that's all it has to be.

Whatever makes you feel better.

We'll all be here to mock you tomorrow afternoon.:p

Oh and I'll be here... Quietly taking it like a man... :)

BREAKING NEWS:

They installed more stuff in the ceiling which flat out says ios 5.
