At first I thought I was really reaching with this theory but the more I think about it the more I suspect that this is a one time unique situation.

What you said in addition to the fact that nobody has really valid counter arguments in context that this is a very weird cycle.

Ok lets put ourselves in the shoes of the people in the meeting(or whatever) where they decided the release date. They might have said: "ok we are releasing it June 6 but we need to keep it secret. After the way the iPhone 4 was leaked, I don't want to set the precedent that Apple no longer is in control of their privacy and leaks. What will it take to keep the iPhone 5 secret until released?"

"well we can release decoy rumors?" one might say.

"we can clamp down with controlled leaks and by a process of elimination we can get rid of any moles and ensure an even higher level of company secrecy in this era where apple and it's secret info is more valuable and sought after as Internet news then ever"

Ok so what would it take to release it on the same day as usual, but without anybody expecting it.

"well we can imply that WWDC is gonna be about iOS and other new releases this time before WWDC and if everyone is convinced there will not be a phone, people will try less hard to sniff it out"

"brilliant..."

Again, the pre-announcement announcements can be interpreted 2 ways...

I actually feel sorry for you now.

Your condescension is noted...

Thank you.

Don't mean to offend you, just stating it how it is.

BREAKING NEWS:

They installed more stuff in the ceiling which flat out says ios 5.

I think your own post is the best evidence against your thread. It's only iOS 5.

I officially retract all my theories.

Trust me, i would've loved it if the iPhone 5 was released tomorrow, but unfortunately chances are it isn't going to be.
