with the Mac mini redesign being closer in appearance to the Apple TV, could Apple change the design for ATV. Would be cool if they brought out a stick type design.

Otherwise just expecting an A17 Pro or A18 with 8GB ram spec bump for Apple intelligence, thread/matter to be standard in the base model, WiFi 7

Many want to put a replacement wherever they have the current one now. For some, that’s towards either ideal spot for this purpose. For others, this would be a big change to where they want it. Rephrasing your response…

Considering how EASY and cheap it would be to insert a “normal” USB port in AppleTV for anyone who optionally wants a variety of hardware add-ons like a camera or more storage, would it really be a big deal for Apple to provide one?

It would be very un-Apple-like to put the camera on the Apple TV. I would imagine a clip on camera would be ideal. A camera that clips onto the TV.

I couldn't wait any longer as my Fire TV Stick 4K was really giving up on me, so when no new Apple TV was announced last month, I decided to finally buy one. If a new one does come out this month, I'm gonna be pissed, lol.

Please no, why would you want a fan, it's only TV accessory I own (I have PS5 and NS) which has no funs and it is glorious.
the fan in my 2021 model is inaudible ...

also there is a test somewhere on YT where it shows that the throttling A15 struggles with frames with more resource hungry games compared to actively cooled A12

so indeed for a proper Apple TV with A18 chip, we need active cooling

Games console is way overdue. The money in gaming is massive, if you could dump the entire steam deck style library on an apple TV and sell it with controllers for £300 it'd fly off the shelves. They need to get into bed with all the games publishers, ARM m chips would run anything with ease and they then wouldn't need to worry about native metal ports.

Why has no one mentioned the biggest thing that everyone would want.

Really good AI upscaling tech, like the Shield Pro. A lot of peoples TV's have sub par upscaling software/hardware in them. A good upcscaler for any content that is sub 4k would be something their chips with the AI cores would do wonderfully at. I'd imagine with all the tech put into the Vision set, they probably have some good software to help upscale content to much higher resolution without adding in artifacts.

Can't think of anything on the video side that needs improvement but, on the audio side, I'd like to see native support for Hi-Res Lossless 24-bit/192kHz audio.
Amending my prior response to add that I'd like to see future ATV's available with a faster ethernet port - say 2.5GbE so that I don't need to throttle back my Plex settings.

Is your plex connection going lossless with streaming? Because most with good compression are 30-60, at lossless are around 100mbps AT MOST.... but still. I get the idea you are going for. It's rare that most people have setups that are running lossless 4k....

I need your advice: My TV is pretty old and even Netflix and Prime are pretty slow now, so I need some kind of streaming box and it looks like the Apple TV is the only one that supports all the streaming apps I plan on using (Fire TV stick and Google TV streamer don't). I definitely want to buy it sooner rather than later, so what would you say, until when should I wait before I buy the 3G model? Until the end of October to cover an eventual announcement in a possible Oct. 30th event? End of November for a possible Black Friday deal (didn't notice one last year)?

Yeah agreed. I read a comment elsewhere from someone who said Apple should make a high end soundbar with AppleTV OS capabilities baked in and a camera for FaceTime. That soundbar would be placed smack dab in the middle below the TV across from you where you will be sitting.

That’s a great idea!

Apple have a lot of audio expertise - my OG HomePod is still the best speaker I’ve ever used. They could make a banging soundbar, that’s for sure.

Soundbars are also highly visible - often mounted on the wall underneath a TV. Aesthetics matter. Currently I’m looking for a new soundbar and I can’t believe the Sonos Arc is the only one that comes in white. I’m sure Apple could make a more attractive bar than other brands in this field.

A single device that can replace my soundbar, AppleTV, and HomePod would be a day-one purchase for me. Additional features like a camera would just be the icing on the cake.

A camera? That’s nuts.
I keep mine behind the tv, before that it was under the desk. How does someone position an Apple TV so it’s pointing at you and where does it have to be to do so

I think 2.5Gbe or 5Gbe would be warranted. Add AV1, and an A18 processor and you’re good to go.

Plex can’t play 4K without stuttering on my setup. Infuse has no problem. So doubt it’s the network. It’s something about ATV and plex together that’s just not quite right.
