:D

Don't know but as your faithful correspondent I humbly submit the next MBP killer for your amusement:

http://www.metroweekly.com/technocrat/2013/10/dells-xps-15-is-a-windows-running-macbook-pro-starting-at-1500.html

I guess if Dell can squeeze in a dGPU then so can Apple. There we have it folks. :)

Despite the confusion in some of the news, I think the new Dell XPS 15 with 3200x1800 display requires NVIDIA graphics. The press release is kind of ambiguous: http://www.dell.com/learn/us/en/uscorp1/secure/2013-10-02-venue-tablets-xps-laptops

Aghhhhh i can't wait anymore ... :(
But then is it worth the wait?
May be I should just get one tomorrow....
rMBP I think... And I think 15" and I think mmmm the biggest GB I can get? Or go to an e bay and buy something used ?

If you get a current one is the next couple of weeks, you may very well be within the 2 week return policy when the Haswell model comes out.

Congratulations sir!
I am soo thinking about doing the same, but I can wait for one more week..

Don't fold and follow the rash actions of a bloke who basically conned this board into thinking there would be a silent refresh this week. Only a few more weeks and you will know.

Really, buying a new computer now off craigslist is crazy on a couple of levels. Literally two more weeks and we know what's going on and at least if you buy at apple you can return it within 14 days.

I can't believe somebody would buy from Craigslist right now to save a couple hundred dollars.

I'm no longer waiting. Today I bought a 15" Ivy Bridge rMBP with 16GB of DRAM and 512GB SSD off Craigslist, new in the box, for $2000. I'll skip Haswell and wait for Broadwell.

I understand your situation, but I can't help to think that the Haswell rMBPs are just around the corner! Plus you have become a veteran on this lengthy thread.

Goes to show the current rMBP 15" (brand new) still sells after 15 months.

Hopefully, for you, the Haswell update is a lackluster update.
To the other hundreds viewing this thread that are patiently waiting, hopefully the wait pays off!

Shouldn't we see Mavericks gold master this week, if it is to be released in October? Seems like there's a 2-3 week period between gold master and release.

If you guys already have notebooks then you might as well wait. These new ones will come out eventually and unless you're in dire need I'd wait. I got a new battery for my notebook and I'm ready to wait another 6 months if I have to.

Thank you for your advice. I agree with you about the timing.
But I did enjoy following mcarling's insightful comments on this board over time. He voiced his opinion and a wish I suppose, as more of us here. Nothing wrong with that.

I'm sorry if you feel like you were conned into thinking there would be a refresh this week. I never wrote that there would be a refresh this week. I did wait to see whether or not there would be a refresh this week before buying a new February 2013 rMBP for $800 off retail.

Nice work, mcarling. I've been tempted by a similar CL deal here too. (Exactly the same price + model, as a matter of fact.)

But I have the luxury of time... and, it turns out, an ungodly amount of patience. ;)

Enjoy your new toy!

Care to share where you found such a good deal. I bought my February 2013, 15" rMBP 10 days ago. I was not able to get the Apple Online store to match the Mac Mall price offered for the 2012 model but they did take $309 off of a build to order model.
A new Apple retail store opened in my area recently and I introduced myself to the manager. He agreed to extend the return period on my rMBP to an additional two weeks. I honestly would like to just return in now. However, I need a new lapotp by the end of October and I am afraid that if the Haswell rMBP does not come out, I will not be able to get Apple to honor the $309 discount I got on my build to order unit.

Any suggestions on where I might go to find good a valid offer that I can Apple to price match? The specs on my unit are 15", 16GB RAM, 768GB flash storage.

By the way, did you bother checking if your serial number was registered for AppleCare, or did you simply assume a 2013 model would be covered by virtue of it being less than a year old?

Just wondering in case I decide to follow your lead...

(Sorry for the OT question, folks.)

Played with the MBA and the 13" rMBP again and the MBA's screen isn't so bad. It's also a half pound lighter. The rMBP's screen is pretty nice though. One question: how does scaled 1680x1050 on the 13" compare to scaled 1680x1050 on the 15"? Am I going to hate myself/have trouble reading the screen if I run 1680x1050 all of the time?

My BTO iMac (assembled in California, it appears) arrives tomorrow. No regrets!

How hard was it to understand. If Apple is having problems with retina displays for ipad minis, they possibly could be experiencing the same for rMBP.

I guess it's easier to believe rumors based on delusion cloaked as logic.

No, it's not. Apple has no problem producing Retina screens for the MBP. As has been pointed out by others, it's a completely different manufacturing process.

It is also an established manufacturing process. The 15 & 13 inch retina displays have been in production for over a year now. Whereas the iPad Mini retina has probably only recently started mass production.

people are too enamored with 4K. I think a more realistic approach would be to move the 13" to a retina display for 1440x900 (current 15" resolution) and move 15" to retina display for 1680x1050 (the original high end 15" resolution)

those IGZO displays could be ready

I would love if they did this. I've owned a 2010 13" MBP and a 2012 13" MBA and for my personal uses the size of the UI elements on the 1440x900 screen were way better. I even went to an Apple store and compared that UI scaling to the best for retina setting. I much prefer the UI elements again at the 1440x900 scaled (for the 13" model. I didn't test to see which I preferred on the 15" since I'm not planning on buying it).

Congrats on your purchase. Will you still be poking around this thread until the release though? Just so you can finish out this long and emotional roller coaster of a journey with us :D

Until this wait, I had no idea how much patience I'm actually capable of. In the past, I've always sold my devices a couple of weeks before the announcement date and I've been fine with that. I sold my MBA before WWDC and surprisingly I've been able to make it this long without any serious mental breakdowns ;)

No, I will check it if I ever need it. I'll probably buy a Broadwell MBP, so I expect to keep this Ivy Bridge MBP only about a year or so. I guess the chances of failure are low.

Decisions, Decisions.

The NEW Dell XPS 15 with 3200x1800 IGZO screen, 1TB HD +SSD options, 16GB of ram, Nvidia Graphics starting at a $1499 price point has stark potential.

I am A traveling cinematographer/photographer that needs every bit of high end processing to help with editing and I am in the market for a 15" laptop with essentially everything the speculated Haswell rMBP has to offer. Better battery life, higher-res screen (hopefully IGZO), lightweight dependable, powerful and of course a well structured OS.

Currently using a 27" Mid 2011 iMac running 2.5 GHz i5 - 24gb RAM - 1TB HD - AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512MB

Geekbench 3 benchmarking as of lately between 5500-6990 multicore 32bit score

Walked into an Apple Store today took the 15" 2.7Ghz i7 rMBP - 16gb RAM - 512 SSD - Intel 4000HD/Nvidia 650m 1GB

Geekbench 3 benchmarking an astounding 11780 multicore 32bit score.

I have a friend that is resigning this month from Apple that told me I can use his 25% off until OCT. 18th (resignation date) meaning the $2799 model after tax is just under $2,300. Now presents my dilemma buy NOW or wait and save up for the 2013 Haswell rMBP? The employee discount does not extend to the NEW Haswell as Apple employees do not receive discounts on new MBP's anywhere from 1-3 months after release. Advice anyone? By the way traveling to Hawaii and NYC for the entire month of November and definitely can't bring my iMac with me.

If I was you I would wait and see if the new rMBPs come out on the Oct 15th, which has been rumored quite a bit. Because provided they get released the same day, you'll still be able to use your friends discount.

If they don't come out on the 15th, a current gen rMBP is almost twice as fast as the iMac you currently use to do all your work anyway. The only reason you might want to wait for Haswell is the improved battery life for your long trip.

TheVerge tells that at $1499, you get a base model with Core i5, a 1080p screen (1920x1080), integrated 4400HD GPU only, hybrid storage (1TB HDD + 32GB SSD) and a smaller battery.

If I would buy the XPS15, I would surely go for the better screen, 750M dGPU, 256-512GB SSD and the larger battery. But that's probably going to cost somewhere between $2000-2500, meaning it's rMBP price territory.

If the next rMBP comes with similar specs (especially the 4400HD + 750M combo) I would prefer it over this XPS 15, pure because of the design, materials, trackpad and OS X. And the glowing Apple on the lid <3

edit: for the record I currently own an XPS13 ultrabook. Great Windows 8 ultrabook for a pretty good price, 13" 1080p (non-touch) screen, i5 Ivy Bridge 1.8GHz, 256GB SSD and 8GB RAM for €999. So I'm not trying to attack Dell or something :p

The new release doesn't do much if you can't use the discount anyway.

Is the discount good in the refurbished store? If so you should be able to get a pretty awesome deal! Otherwise buying new with the discount should be good too. Either way you can sell it after the refresh comes out and upgrade. Or keep it.
