Reasons:

- no rumors (except two irritating benchmark leaks earlier this year)
- Apple waits for IGZO availability
- Intel had production/yield problems delivering a special over clocked Iris Pro version as Apple requested
- Intel has problems releasing Thunderbolt2 this year. I'm worried about MacPro too.
- No time! The year is pretty much over. Managing pre x-mas logistics is too tricky and/or expensive.
- Weather. Due to the heavy storm in Japan some crucial parts are probably delayed.
- Intel decided to delay the Broadwell node, marketing-wise delaying Haswell artificially will help to extend the Haswell lifecylce further.
- the infamous analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities is wrong, again :D

Even if Apple decided to hold back IGZO for future Broadwell macs, the TB2 port and o/c'ed Iris Pro iGPU are probably the two major reasons why MacBooks are delayed until February 2014. I believe Intel is to blame for the 2014 shift.

I agree. The Mac Pro doesn't need to be ready for the holiday shopping. I assume true professionals buy whenever they need to?

Yeah, I just can't see the rMBP have supply issues at this point. It will probably be like every other recent Mac that was released, pretty much available immediately.

I'm not so sure 256GB will come standard. I'm all for it, though.

Thus in conclusion, I advise you not to buy an iPad with a MacBook Pro and invest in an iPhone if you do not already have one [but wait for the 6].

The one big difference is that you can get an iPad with a data plan that gives you wifi-free internet access almost anywhere. An iPhone will do the same, but your eyes will get extra wrinkles from squinting.

I have an iPad (3) and an iPhone (5) and generally bring them both with me when I can. Soon I'll have a Macbook also. Then I'll want to bring all three:confused:

When I travel I'll probably have to leave behind clothes to make room.

Oh Wait.. you can tether a Macbook to an iPhone can't you?

How many threads are larger than this one?

This was my introduction to the lunacy of the MacRumors forums. "Waiting for Arrandale". An epic thread of epic futility, divided into 6 parts of 200+ pages each:

All for what turned out to be a rather underwhelming update--which I expect is very similar to what we'll get from this Haswell refresh.

For many of us, it certainly won't be underwhelming.

For many of us, it certainly won't be underwhelming.

Think of all the people who have never owned an Apple product and plan to start with this Haswell refresh! It is the biggest news!

Then again, they might just get a Dell instead of the update turns out to be more underwhelming than the XPS 15.

oh my god shut up i'm already antsy as it is! that's exactly why i've stayed out of this thread lol.

It's a good thing then you are the consistent kind.;)

Is anybody organizing peaceful protests incase the Macbook Pro is not announced?

Count me in folks.

why peaceful? There where more drastic examples a couple pages back...

Not trying to be a downer--I'll be as excited as anyone to get my filthy paws on that shiny new thing. It's just that a 13,000+ post thread can sometimes foster unrealistic expectations. (I'm susceptible to this myself.) I'm just trying to keep the frenzy in check in order to minimize the letdown when the wait finally comes to an end... I've been through this before. ;)

Speaking of letdowns, what do you suppose the people who've spent countless weeks making definitive statements like, "There will be no MBP refresh this year" will do when the new MBPs are announced on Tuesday? I would wager they will quickly switch to gratuitous spec-bashing mode. Example: "10-hour battery life? I waited 8 months for THAT??" or "$2K for this underpowered iGPU-only non-upgradeable POS!? I'm definitely buying a Dell."

Brace yourselves.

The Dell XPS 15, which is the rMBP's main competitor, is now available in Australia. The top version, with a 9-cell battery, 3200x1800 display, 512 GB SSD, 16 GB RAM, i7-4702HQ, and GT 750M 2GB GDDR5, comes in at AUD 2,599. Meanwhile, the cheapest 15 inch rMBP costs AUD 2,499. I don't think a similar configuration of the Haswell rMBP will be that "cheap." We will probably see reviews of both next week, provided that Apple delivers.

THIS was the laptop it made me switch back to windows. I literally also love the design untill I read this

With a TDP of only 37 Watt, the Core i7-4702HQ is specified at the level of mobile dual-core CPUs. Therefore, even smaller laptops can use the Core i7.

So, Sorry Dell. Maybe next year.

so is this intel iris a good thing? will the retina pro (15") be able to run good games with it? i heard people complaining saying it wasn't a good thing but now i'm hearing the opposite...

If I can decide:
0-1 Sales
1-18 Mavericks
19-29 rMBP with TB2 and 14 hours battery, dGPU optional and more
30-42 Mac Pro / 4K Cinema Display
43-48 iWorks 14 for Mavericks
49-50 iPad sales / iOS 7 XX% updated the first two weeks and android is fragmented mixed un-updated trash & bag of hurt & iPhone 5 S/C in 40 countries in october & from now on Apple is happy with 20% profit margins on all their stuff
51-52 Ridiculing "Full of Schmidt" for saying Android is safer than iPhone
53-55 iPad 5 /iPad Mini Retina /iPad 13
56-58 Mac Pro with 4K & rMBP commercial
59-60 Cook Closing saying you can lick on the new rMBP & Mac Pro and 4K display in lobby after this

Please!

Love it! A 2 minute presentation for the new iPad 5! Then the journos and techies can go and lick the new machines in the lobby. Is this a new feature? Perhaps extra security. Lick ID? I'm in!

Have you seen the cry babies here complaining since July that it hasn't been released. Now you think to gloat and it's almost the end of October? Hahaha, u so crazy.

Performance seems to be a little better than that of the 2.4 GHz processor in the current rMBP, so performance is still good. It's not like you're getting an Ultrabook CPU. I suspect Dell chose it because a more power consuming CPU would just be throttled by heat problems anyway. There's not much point in using a 4800MQ if the cooling isn't able to keep up. I doubt we will see better performance from the base level rMBP. Graphics performance will almost certainly be better in the Dell, since Apple probably will not use a 2 GB graphics card, even if they do end up using the 750M

According to Dell's marketing their laptop gets 11 hours of battery life at 150 nits of brightness while surfing the web. This is about the same as the 13" MBA, depending on how often websites are refreshed in Dell's test.

And all with a 750M, for probably cheaper than an rMBP. I hope apple meets or exceeds the bar that they've set.

Idk why everyone is saying that. I would suspect it would be just as likely to have supply issues as any other year. If not more, because other manufacturers are also only getting their supplies now in release for mid-late October releases. We've only really seen announcements (at least as of last week), which means manufacturers haven't had the supplies to launch Haswell notebooks yet (besides the exception of a few Ultrabooks).

Intel shifted it back because of their own supply schedule. Just because it's "late" by apple standards doesn't mean it's all of a sudden not going to have supply issues.

Games should be 5-15 frames less for those that require more ram usage (sandboxes, RPG's, etc.). Skyrim would take a big hit. Other than those games, Diablo, League of Legends, etc. those games will run around the same as the 650M in the current gen.

One can only hope

Resolution

I agree with the several posters who expect the Haswell rMBPs to have the same resolution and the same displays as the Ivy Bridge rMBPs. There are two compelling reasons: Increasing the resolution (or in any other way changing the displays) introduces production risks. Apple need to focus on driving the cost of the rMBPs down toward the costs of the cMBPs. For these two reasons, I would be quite surprised to see a change in the displays this year.

If Apple had wanted to push in the direction of higher resolutions, I think they would have first upgraded the MBAs to Retina. I still expect to see Retina MBAs before any further increase in MBP resolution.

That said, I run my 15" rMBP at 1920x1200. It looks beautiful compared to the 1680x1050 display on my 2011 MBP, however, it does not look quite as beautiful as the default 1440x900 setting. I use 1920x1200 rather than 1440x900 or 1680x1050 because it's more productive for me. If there were a 2160x1350 setting, I would try it. I've tried 2880x1800, but the type is too small for me -- just near the limits of readability. So, I would love to have a 4K Retina display in a 15" MBP (so that I could have super-crisp 1920x1200) someday (maybe with Broadwell but more likely with Skylake or Skymont). I try not to allow my desires to bias my expectations.

This is me..decided to get my first Mac in March..been waiting excitingly ever since,
had not realised the huge rumours..threads..waiting thing that goes on in the Apple world.

Having made the decision , and waiting this long no way will I get a Dell..
not that I would ever get one anyway but that is beside the point!
