Unless they post a late night update, looks like people are going to be waiting until tomorrow.

It's not late night yet in Cupertino. But, I would imagine that a lot of take out orders are coming into 1 Infinite Loop right about now.

Crap!! I just hit a deer that ran out in front of me.
I'm in a ditch upside down with a iphone that is bricked and can't call 911.

Just kidding!!! But lets just think about that for a minute?
What if this was true?

Now lets think about all the people in the world that have a bricked Iphone
that MIGHT JUST NEED help NOW? and can't make a call?

What if someone would die?

I am just curious what Apple plans to do for those who are not tech savy enough to know how to do the ipsw.

In my opinion they need to release a new version that the bricked iPhone can update to.

I wonder if we called apple, if we would be able to get a free case from this? Then again I can't call anyone anymore ahaha

Apple stoped signing 8.0.1 so restore in iTunes will install 8.0.

The world functioned just fine without cell phones for many centuries. For that matter, I didn't get a smartphone until last year and I lived to tell about it!

Then again, I'm one of those freaks that maintains a land line at home for emergencies. Amazing that I make it out of the house most days! :D

Yeah, this is one of those days where I feel fortunate that I always update using iTunes and download the full installation file. And equally fortunate that I have a relatively slow broadband connection at home. The iOS update file still had 4 hours left to download when the first bug reports started slamming this site and others.

I would think that cellular connectivity is a relatively straight forward issue to diagnose, especially since the carriers started testing the build almost a month ago. The Touch ID bug? Who knows. Seems that the issues are concentrated around the 6 and 6 Plus, so it might be something with changes to the components. Whatever. Just hope this saga doesn't drag out.

I wouldn't hold my breath on another iTunes 11 release. iTunes 12.0 (and all the attendant drama associated with a brand new iTunes release) will likely drop alongside OS X Yosemite next month.
I guess i'll have to use my iPhone 5 in the meantime then... really sucks how i can't seem to sync my youtube mp3s unless i brute force them on there by syncing music a minimum of 10 times. usually then it finally works... and sometimes i give up and just manually sync music/videos by dragging over.

I don't think a land line will help while one is driving, out for a walk or when the power goes out.

The fact of the matter is, This latest update could very well cause the loss of life in a emergency.

Just wait, I bet a we'll hear something from around the world that something went wrong because of this update

I'm pretty sure we will be waiting till tomorrow 10am at the earliest for an update. maybe they will say what the issue was tonight if lucky.

I don't think it will we released at an specific time like a normal update, my guess is nobody at Apple working at iOS 8 will have any sleep until it is ready to release.

Also, people say, just connect the phone to the computer and restore to 8.0, no, it's not that simple for everybody, if my mom had updated to 8.0.1 she wouldn't know what to do, that's why Apple will try to push it ASAP.

I am sure that none of us can answer this for sure, however I am wondering how involved Tim Cook would be with this issue, at his level. No doubt he is well aware of the 8.01 issue (as well as the concerns about BEND issues), however he has such a large executive team that I am sure are dealing with this, I am just wondering what decisions he is actually involved in. Would be decide what we are told or not told? Would he decide when we would would see the next release?

I didn't update the software. And damn well told I will not update to whatever Apple releases to fix those that were affected until I make sure you folks didn't get hammered with other issues.

I just hope they haven't all gone home for the night! :)
I wonder if Tim is still in the building...

Just a little info land line works even if the power goes out, cordless phones wont work but a normal old fashion phone gets power through the phone line. :D

Actually, during a power outage is the exact time that a land line at home comes in handy. No need for external power if you plug a wired phone directly into the jack, and the power sources are usually different than those used within a particular neighborhood with their own centralized backup power, so you have multiple redundant backups that the cell network lacks. After natural disasters like earthquakes and tornadoes, land lines are often up and running well before the electricity, gas, water, and cell service come back online.

Plus, the response time to 911 calls using a land line remains faster and more reliable. Those extra ~30 seconds can come in handy if a loved one is having a stroke or you spot an intruder prowling around your property.

Like I said, the human race survived for centuries without cell service and so will those unfortunate souls that Apple has doomed to a night of having to interact with people face-to-face.

Well I do have a landline and it used to work like that, straight from the wall, no power needed. Then evolution came and made things a tad bit more complex.

Yes, I do have a regular phone working and the same number I've always had for about 30 years but it is now connected to a VoIP port in my router trough a GPON. That's what keeps the phone alive and it needs power to run. So if the electricity goes out, the landline dies. Bummer.

I'm sure the ish is running downhill at a feverish pace.

A lot of landlines today are provided by non-phone company providers, like cable providers for example, and those go through a modem and work almost like VoIP so if the power goes out, short of a backup battery in a modem that lasts for a bit, there's no landline service.

I have pots with an old fashioned telephone in one jack. Cell phones and this line were the communication to the world for two weeks without power after hurricane sandy.

Not quite sure why people are expecting iOS 8.0.2 so quickly. Because of what happened I can assure you they will take there time over testing it this time round. It'll be a day or two yet.

People are already dying...... from lack of food, diseases, bombs, lack of water, ebola, war, and many other problems...

I think a bricked phone would be way down on that list.......

O! - the first world problems are mind boggling.....

I just can't understand why they quickly couldn't roll out 8.0 code as 8.0.2 and update people who has 8.0.1. Seems like that would have been the easiest way to stop the bleeding.

The reason I was expecting it to be released pretty quickly is that it broke a pretty major function of their flagship phones with an OTA update, and, at least initially it didn't seem like there was a fix for it. If the only fix was waiting for an update from Apple then I think that it's pretty safe to assume that the update would be coming quickly.

Apple has officially acknowledged the issue and says 8.0.2 will be out in a few days:

Honestly, it still surprises me a bit that they are waiting a few days to release 8.0.2 given that their only fix requires you to connect a phone to iTunes. A decent number of iPhone users don't have computers or use iTunes and even some that do might have trouble with these steps. One of the big features of iOS 5 was the OTA updates and the fact that you could now activate, back up, and update your phone without a computer.

At least they are acknowledging the issue and providing some sort of potential fix.
