I feel like apple has pigeon holed itself (and trained its audience) in releasing new computer hardware on a pretty regular yearly schedule. IMO computers don't need a yearly update, rather they should be updated when ready. I think the M5 MBP rollout is ridiculous that there is no M5 Pro or Ultra right now with the regular M5. When Apple was bound to Intel chips the updates were to infrequent and now I feel Apple has gone the other was and now they are too frequent. Phones seem good on a yearly schedule, computers don't need that IMHO.
While Apple did let some product models languish for years without updates, Apple updated its core Intel computer lineup (the MacBook Pro and iMac) at least annually and sometimes twice annually.

I think that the m4 upgrade was the first upgrade after m1 for a lot of people, so they don't expect m4 customers to jump ship so soon. Also if there is a new cheap lite model, then in terms of revenue it's not going to touch MBP with out going several times higher.

Just wanting clarification: There are no more NEW Macs coming THIS YEAR but possibly NEXT YEAR, correct?

while the MacBook Air, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro were always rumored to be updated next year.
I recall posts earlier this year suggesting a Mac Pro refresh in Mid to Late 2025. I wouldn't say they were "always" rumored to come in 2026.

Oh no, Apple doesn’t keep pumping tens of products a year? How can I sleep well knowing I got nothing to discuss and argue with people online for the next two months? The world is doomed 🤡

I have a feeling that Apple is done for the year, in terms of all hardware. That includes more M5 macs and also the rumoured Apple TV and new Homepod Mini.

Could be wrong but next stop is around March 2026...
^This. Likely the new Apple TVs and HomePods are waiting for the new Siri along with the rumored home hub tablet. So maybe March or April.

I just got a new MBA ahead of my business trip (my M1 was still going strong but 13” was too little space to work with) so this is actually good news for me

Please bring us good news by announcing that TC is leaving Apple soon.

iPad Pro M5 has Wifi 7. Why not M5 MacBook Pro 14"? This was done on purpose to make people keep upgrading and longing for the next generation of products.

I still don't understand what the rush to release the M5 on only the iPad Pro and base MBP was about, but no harm done I suppose.

My guess is that the chips were ready and Apple was paying TSMC for them, so no reason to just sit on them in a warehouse. And having a new base MBP and iPad Pro available during the Christmas shopping season will probably help boost sales a bit.

The A Series and M Series SoCs share similar architectures so with the A Series being updated annually, there is no reason not to also update the M Series annually. So the M Series is being updated when it is ready. It just happens to be ready on an annual basis.

I think the M5 MBP rollout is ridiculous that there is no M5 Pro or Ultra right now with the regular M5.

Moving away from the "monolithic SoC" design of the M1-M4 Pro and Max to a "chiplet" design with M5 Pro/Max can allow Apple more flexibility in CPU and GPU configurations if they so wish as they all the transistors are no longer located on a single die. This also means smaller, less-complex dies which should improve yields and lower the defect rate.

Yes, next year we should expect the 14" and 16" MacBook Pro offering the M5 Pro and M5 Max as well as an update for the Mac mini with M5 and M5 Pro and the Mac Studio with M5 Max. Hopefully we will also see an M5 Ultra for the Mac Studio and really hopefully we will see the Mac Pro updated with the M5 Ultra and possibly the fabled "M5 Extreme".

I really wish they'd release the whole line, both the MacBook Pro and the M-series (regular, pro, Max, and Ultra), just to prevent fragmentation.

Dammit, I guess that means no Apple TV either. I wanted to update mine.
Considering how small the motherboard can be, I'm curious to see if Apple could make an HDMI stick-type device. If it's an issue of the power supply, do something like iPhones/iPad chargers and have a charger brick.

I really only want a new ATV this year, truthfully.

The M4 is about 18 months old now. It was probably always on the schedule for replacement.

The TSMC CoWoS stuff for M5 Pro was always expected to take longer. Why delay M5 base just because of that?

Cadence is what allows Apple to be a top customer at TSMC and steer the ship.

If you want to be Intel with no set schedule or volume, then you don’t get first dibs or a voice in process node development.

People don’t generally cross shop between a $1,599 MBP and a $1,999 MBP.

Yeah, cadence with iphone chips... macs are literally the bottom rung of revenue for apple.

I honestly thought there was a typo or missing word in the phrase "...we expect to face a very difficult compare against the M4 MacBook..." before I realized this is yet another example of corporate America's nonstop march to pulverize the English language. It's nauseating enough that "ask" is frequently used as a noun now (it isn't one), but now "compare" is a noun too?? This gross mutilation of the language for the purpose of pretentious self-aggrandizement has got to stop...

But on another note, more life out of my M3 Max MacBook Pro (only one generation behind) :)

So churn out new versions of Mac OS each year to intentionally deprecate older Macs - and not release any new Macs. Ok. Got it.
Yes indeed.

And while it could be said that the Cupertino company creates good products, it can also be said that their true expertise is brilliant marketing spin.

Few companies have the power and influence over their customers like Apple.
