What do you guys think the pricing line-up will look like after a refresh? This is the current 256GB line-up:
$1.099: 11" MBA / 13" classic MBP
$1.199: 13" MBA
$1.299: 12" rMB
$1.499: 13" rMBP

If we get a new 13" rMBP and a new 13" MB(A), I suspect that:
  • New 13" rMBP 256GB will start at $1.399
  • New 13" rMB(A) 256GB will come in at the current price point of the 12" rMB
  • Current 12" rMB price will drop with $100
  • Current rMBP will remain as "classic rMBP 128GB" at $1.099 (hopefully with Skylake upgrade)
  • No more 11" MBA
We'll then have this line-up:

$1.099: 13" rMBP 128GB
$1.199: 12" rMB 256GB
$1.299: 13" rMB(A) 256GB
$1.399: 13" rMBP 256GB

15" rMBP price point will remain unchanged (perhaps base storage 512GB?).

This would be a simple line-up than I can live with and makes sense :). What do you guys think? I know I'm speculating a whole lot, but it's not like another Serban discussion is adding much value to this thread anyway.

Why bother then? Buy a current model MacBook Pro or a Wintel machine. The future is coming whether you like it or not, get on board or spend it pining for USB A ports and Magsafe (neither of which will be found on any other laptop for much longer).

I have not drank enough Koolaid I guess.
Logic an individual thought still abound.
I am a very bad apple.
Maybe someday I can board the mother ship with you.

Many of you guys are forgetting that Apple's services category generated as much revenue as the Macs and iPad division, not combined. iCloud is a part of that category. It's in Apple's best interests to either 1) Charge a high premium for higher permanent storage or 2) Offer limited storage/expensive storage upgrades in order to push users to embrace paying for iCloud storage.

That's logically why storage is charged at a premium and why Apple's Services category shot up in revenue, based on Q3 results.

iCloud or high-margin hardware storage options, either way Apple gets your money.

I don't think Apple thinks "Hey guys, let's limit storage options to make people buy iCloud space." Services has increased in revenue because there are more of them, and people are doing more with bigger/more files--bigger pictures and all that.

You just sound like you're hankering after a machine from 4 years ago. There is no point complaining that Apple hasn't updated the Mac line up and then when they update them with the latest standards complaining about that as well.

Dont like, dont buy. I dont like Windows as an operating system but i'm not going to sit on a Microsoft forum complaining about Surface running windows.

That wasn't my point. I'm merely giving a rationale as to why Apple charges such a premium for simple storage upgrades that seemingly don't cost Apple as much.

Of course if they handle things so poorly complaints make sense. New machine or old.

Standards? Are they really though?
Magsafe was a great thing. It will be replaced with nothing basically. Not new standard.
Usb-c to many different adapters because many standard ports were removed is not moving to new a standard.

Yes. Please do protest about things you don't like. Don't give up so easily.
The don't like, don't buy mentality (and all similar) is a bad mentality.

Honestly I dont need you to tell me how to think. I can't wait for them to remove Magsafe, I can't stand it constantly falling out of the port.

And yes USB type C is a standard. A superior standard to the one it replaces, this is the nature of technology.

Just talked to apple care because my trackpad has been acting up and they said that when I am ready they'll send a request for a replacement macbook pro retina to the apple store near me. Should I wait for the new ones or bite the bullet and get the 2015 one? They also said that I could upgrade from 500gb to 1tb if I pay the difference. I am excited now!!!! I have had about 5-6 repairs on this laptop since 2013.

For anyone that has used the Surface Pro 4 Keyboard cover, how does it compare to the new Macbook keyboard? I think the Surface keyboard cover is actually very usable and has pretty good travel.

I just hope the new Macbook Pros don't stray too far towards the Macbook end of keyboard design.

It's not going to include 756. It's not Apple's strategy, which is apparent in its smartphone business. 32gb, 128gb, 256gb. Need the sweet spot of 64gb? Nope. Pay more for 128GB, or suffer with half the space you "need" at 32gb. It's a pretty brilliant strategy to sell a higher configuration that works.

Feels like they're going to axe the low tier and stick with the 128/256 sizes and just keep the starting price at $750. I'm shocked they've kept the base price at $650 for this long. They've already bumped the starting pricing of the iPad. Calling it now, next years iPhone is going to start at $750!

I have to use a SP4 for work w/ the keyboard cover, and it sucks. Incredibly flimsy and the trackpad is so bad that I end up using the touchscreen to navigate. At home I use a MacBook...maybe I'm in the minority, but I enjoy the new butterfly keys. Several others in here have said the same.

Do they need a rationale? It makes them more money. They've done it since forever, way before iCloud. It used to be just as bad with RAM, too.

But, to be fair, you are getting fast PCI-e storage, so it could be worse.

Ever since I updated to Sierra on my late 2011 15", the battery performance has sucked (like 2x faster drain). APPLE IS RELEASING NEW MBP SOON.

Wow, how rude. Here's a tip for the future: if you have to write "not to be offensive, but" maybe you should reconsider what follows. If you think I misunderstood you, there are far more polite and less condescending ways to address that.
Yeah, you're right. I'm sorry. Thought you were just nitpicking what I was saying to incite argument.

Started looking at protective sleeves and multi port adapters for my first ever MBP. What's everybody thinking of getting? I think the MBP it self should be fine without any protection, just a sleeve to take it to and from work and stuff should be ok right? Do they scratch easy?

They don't scratch easily, at least the silver ones don't. They can get minor dents, though. I prefer sleeves that double as a thin case, with a pocket for a power supply and a strap that can come off. That way I have something that (usually) stays in the backpack and if I just need my laptop I can carry it by itself. Unfortunately this kind of bag isn't all that popular. I have one from Booq that I have had since my 15" Powerbook. 11 years old and still strong, although it's a bit too roomy for the 13" I have now, and would be way too big for a 13" rMBP. Not sure what I'll replace it with. Maybe this? My backpack is falling apart so I may just ditch the idea (to be fair, I rarely carry my laptop bag separately these days) and get a backpack with a built-in sleeve.

As for adaptors, all I need is one with both HDMI and VGA because "smart" classrooms are dumb. Surprisingly, there aren't that many and they have mixed reviews.
