That's what I was wondering: how many of the 15" folks would be getting a 17" if it were offered? Let's say, with 32 GB of RAM and a 4K screen?

I probably wouldn't, as enticing as it sounds, because it would cross the line into not being portable enough. 15" is a perfect balance between desktop replacement and portability.
I would personally stick with the 15" as well (probably), but around here the market for a 17" seems to be pretty large.

A desktop replacement would be a nice option in this increasingly mobile world, but then that takes away some appeal from their brand new 5K Display. :p

Have their been any rumours about reducing the bezel size around the screen on this revision? Imo that is far more beneficial at his point than reducing the thickness of the laptop.

TouchID on the MacBook will change everything! No more need to remember any passwords. Make purchases with Apple Pay. Built in encryption. No more need to worry about security cameras catching my passwords.

The dGPU is worth it one thousand percent. Try using premiere pro for basic tasks on a 13" - it's infuriatingly bad whereas my 750m makes it a lot more manageable even today. OpenCL and CUDA bring export times hugely down as well.

You may not need one, but integrated only with a giant box required for performance is not the way I want to go. Sure, eGPUs are a great idea, but there's absolutely no reason Apple can't put a mobile 1070 into the 15", especially with competitors doing it in similarly sized devices. That new razer blade has a desktop i7 6700 and a 1080 in a frame just as thin - no reason we can't do mobile CPU and 1070 in the 15".

The 17" Razer Blade Pro with 1080 is 3.5 kg so not really comparable to the 15" rMBP at 2 kg (and likely to get slimmer still).

The 14" Razer Blade is comperable in thickness and weight but has the 1060, not 1080 and it gets pretty hot so not much room to slim it further.

Guys, would you say the 13" 4k display is too small to be worth it?

EDIT: Assuming it has a 4k display, but even otherwise, what are your guys' experience with the 13"?

Every single laptop I've ever used personally has been a 13" computer. It's absolutely more convenient when it comes to using it on anything other than a completely flat surface. Still, if you use your laptop mostly on a flat surface and are otherwise on the fence between the 13" and the 15", I'd say go with the 15". Just the quick 1-minute test use in the Apple store was enough to convince me. Everything just feels nicer, more free and open. The 13" feels a little constrained, like you are sometimes forced to adapt yourself to the screen. The 15" allows you to use a computer more naturally.

^I can agree with that. I had the 13" rMBP for three years and I felt "trapped" by the lack of screen real estate sometimes (and occasionally wishing I had gotten the 15" instead. Won't make that mistake this time -_-)

Is it confirmed? The Gurman report didn't mention Touch ID as one of the features...so I'm hoping they didn't drop support for it.

Ironically it won't for anyone that's got the watch. I haven't had to type in my password since Sierra was released.

Is the iGPU that bad? I plan to do a little 4K video editing from time to time. Will I regret not getting the dGPU?

Maybe it is a trick on us and he is announcing they are discontinuing the Mac line completely? LOL

I actually called one of my local Apple Stores and needed to ask a question of the business support team for ordering a new laptop next week and the person that answered said we don't know what they are going to talk about next week all we know if there is a keynote. I told him that everyone knows it is for the release of new Macs and he repeated his line about not knowing what was going to be discussed in the keynote. I know they aren't allowed to disclose that but please don't insult my intelligence.

Or was he implying we are about to be tricked next week? LOL
Nah, they really don't know. Imagine if all Apple employees, especially Apple Store ones, knew what was to be released next...there is no way Apple could keep it secret from the public. They have an idea more or less but not more than you do.

No way are they sticking a 1070 in the next MBP, the 1070 is a full desktop class die and Apple has never stuffed those types of GPUs in their tiny enclosures...almost 100% certain it will be some form of Polaris 11.

Performance will be similar to the RX 460 (most likely to be a rebranded RX 475M for mobile versions). It will be more than twice as fast as the current R9 M370X (~1TF compared to 2.2TF).

That's been confirmed as Polaris drivers were found in the beta Sierra. No such luck for nVidias latest dGPUs.

Not what I want to hear! Isn't the new MBP 15" going to have the capable Skylake GT4e Iris Pro? I don't mind having to wait an hour or two for a 4K VBR encode.
I have no idea honestly. Has GT4e been compared to current dGPUs?, is it any good?

Look, you'll be fine with the iGPU, as long as you can wait longer for encodes.

The upcoming igpu should probably be around the same as the current dgpu or just slightly less powerful

Really? The upcoming, as in, the Kaby Lake one?

This review of the Iris Pro 580 shows it does pretty well with video encoding:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/10343/the-intel-skull-canyon-nuc6i7kyk-minipc-review/3

They are only comparing it to other NUCs and Mini boxes, not to dGPUs I think

Edit: Yes, just checked. In one of the test it's beaten by Gigabyte's mini PC which has Iris Pro 5200 and an Intel 4th generation CPU

With all due respect, you clearly don't understand the encryption methods used.

Both imessage and whatsapp use end to end encryption. This is a public/private key pairing system in which both Apple and whatsapp store the public key.

With only the public key neither company can intercept or decypher anyone's messages. For that you need your own private key which is kept only on your phone.

Both messaging apps are equally as secure in regards to snooping/privacy be it from Apple/Facebook or the NSA etc.
Well I coded encrypted iOS and PHP client server apps, did you?
It's not about encryption, it's about the permission you agree to the companies what they can do with your data and private info. For example read https://www.theguardian.com/technol...p-collecting-whatsapp-phone-numbers-user-data

Sigh, another know-it-all. Google is encrypted as well! But that's not the point. The argument was against the Pixel Phone, which has the same level of encryption as the iPhone. People are mixing up the hardware(phone) and service(gmail). i.e., I can buy the Pixel phone and use my corporate exchange account on it. Google will not see ONE BIT OF DATA from my exchange account as it's encrypted end to end, even on the Pixel phone.
LOL??? like really, Exchange is the only thing you will do. The phone is invented to let you live in Google. Here s a quote from Slashdot: “you will be running Android 7.1 Nougat, but Google almost wants you to forget that. Instead, it wants you to feel like you are using a Google phone. Google branding, Google chat apps (Duo and Allo), Google Photos and Google Cloud and, of course, the all new Google Assistant.”
Well if you wanna live in the Google datamining eco system, go ahead with a Chromebook, a Pixel etc. But maybe actually use a search engine to look for privacy concerns for all Google apps.

But now I will stop commenting on off topics and go back to what this topic is about!!

I want the new MBPro with the new Cinema Display :D
