How many of you guys think that Apple will still use only the second generation Broadwell Chips in the 15" rMBP and skip Skylake chips for the 15" rMBP bringing it on in the 15" rMBP only in the next iteration. How many of you guys think that may happen ?

What if the 'hello again' invite is hinting at the Apple Pencil being able to be used with the new MacBook Pros? 'Hello' was drawn using the original Mac (presumably with a mouse), perhaps this time around 'hello' will be drawn with the Apple Pencil on the MacBook Pro (perhaps using the trackpad as the surface to draw on).

I think they're more likely to get their own custom Skylake or Kaby Lake chip variation than to hold back so hard after this long.

A question for all music producers: what configuration do you plan to get based on our current speculations?

Will continue using a Hex Core Mac Pro with 32gb Ram and an OWC Thunderbolt HDD enclosure paired with a 34'' Dell curved display, RME babyface and Dynaudio monitors.

Ill be getting one of the new Macbook Pro's, though just the lowest model I can that has 16gb Ram. Thats the minimum of Ram ill use for music production. Ill leave the heavy lifting to my desktop.

Edit- if it were to be my main system, i would up the ram if possible and id make sure I had at least a quad core chip. 256 GB HDD is fine for me if running external drives, but i keep a trim system drive. I would get a dGPU model if i was running an external display like the 34'' i own.

why would they purposely cripple their own laptops?

Why do you call it cripple ? The other way to look at it is Apple is giving something for its customers right now and at the same time creating a need for future aswell by skipping Skylake right now and giving only second generation Broadwell chips.

I call it cripple because if they can put Skylake chips that are better than Broadwell ones, why would they put Broadwells?

But....why? There's no need to 'create a need for [future products]'--Intel will keep making new chips. Skylake has been released. It's now out there RIGHT NOW. Why would Apple PURPOSELY choose an older processor when the newest one is literally RIGHT THERE? And if I recall Skylake is a "tock" in Intel's "tick-tock" update cycle, meaning it has significant structural advancements over the last generation. If it's literally sitting there, waiting to be used, why would Apple not use it?

They've been taking so much flak for holding back the updates, so why wouldn't they immediately move to silence their critics? Ming has said this is the biggest update since the MacBook Pro was first released. Why would they use a processor family that was released ages ago?

I'm not saying they CAN'T skip Skylake, but again....why?

Yea, the render did nothing for me. Underwhelming and no different to something from 4 years ago, just a new colour, and that gimmicky OLED bar.

As much as I'd like to see a truly fresh take, the leaked chassis pic and current MacBook design almost gives us a sense of what it will probably look like.
Maybe a bit more wedge like, smaller bezels...just don't give us a jet black version.

I really hope so, I really like that keyboard.
I tried it out at the Apple Store a few weeks ago and after about 10 min I got used to it and loved it.

Today I was at Best Buy and tried it out again, and it was tough again. It took me awhile to get used to it again, but I didn't like it as much as I did at the Apple Store weeks ago. Although, I should note that I had my backpack on my back, and the table was very low, so it was hard to hunch down and try to type essentially from a perpendicular angle, with my backpack on my back. Maybe that caused my discomfort using the keyboard.

Ah for sure.

I really hope they get rid of it, I hate it.
same. I think we both agree on everything.

Why?

I think it makes the Mac's stand out. I personaly would love that they stayed.
It does make Macs stand out, for sure. It doesn't look classy or refined, however. It looks like an illuminated piece of white plastic, and doesn't particularly look subtle or mature, in my eyes. I think the new mirror-esque logo gives it a classy, subtle, refined look that isn't attention-grabbing on purpose.
