An SD card slot is more than convenient, it's essential. It would be complete madness to have to buy a USB peripheral simply to transfer photos from our cameras.

I'd imagine the SD slot is not as widely used these days. By and large the number one camera people use are their phones. Much smaller segment that uses point and shoots or DSLR cameras. And if they do use those, the USB-C to SD card reader can be stored in the camera bag along with the charger and other peripherals. I can't image it's that much of an inconvenience.

While I never use mine, I don't think they should take it out. It's so thin as it is (as thin as USB-C), why take it out?

I don't use my SD card slot regularly, but at least when I need to, it's always there. I guess using an USB SD card reader isn't really a deal breaker, but it's far from ideal and one extra thing to remember to carry around on the off-chance it's going to be needed.

Not to mention another thing apple is making you buy.

That's not an issue for Apple. I think it's very likely that they will drop the sd-card slot and that they'll only use usb-c ports with TB3 support and a headphone port. The question is whether they will drop the MagSafe adapter as they did with the rMB.

if there will be a redesign then it will be release on march event...if no we can expect anytime to apple upgrade the line up since intel release all the skylake cpu for any macbook

There could just be a microSD slot, the port would be much smaller and it would still keep a lot of people happy. Most SD card sold now are micro since they are compatible with phones, small cameras, and also dslr.

Exciting news on the homepage!

I'm still very much looking forward for a 13' upgrade by March though... Later into the year updates would be very disappointing.

The fact that the longest time between two MBP releases was 317 days (according to the Macrumors buying guide) is promising. Because if Apple waits until June for an update then that would mean that there is a period of more than 390 days between the two releases.

People in this thread (myself included) have stated over and over again that Apple has never waited an entire year between updates (for the last ten years!!!!) yet there is a certain contingent who are dead set on a June release based on nothing but "gut feelz". so when good news like this comes out I say it riles up the "June-crowd" heh. If someone from that camp please announce some logic as to why you feel it will be a June release I'm all ears. "Gut feelz" from your aunties cousin from across the way don't count.

Now from the current news that has been put on the homepage, A March release for the Skylake based rMBP doesn't look and sound too impossible !

Question is, will it have a redesigned look with the time left or will it be the same look with internal update?

I sure do hope Apple has been busy taking care of everything related to new hardware + redesign and just waiting for late tech comers (Skylake) to wrap up everything and get the ball rolling for March...

This is just insane...if you buy something today, it can be obsolete in a month...it is a punishment for people like me that need the laptop for work...

The current model will not be obsolete for quite a while, it just wont be as shiny.

Sorry, but this is the case for every product update ever.

I believe Apple has a two week return period so if its within 2 weeks you can get the new one. Beyond that, such is life.

What's this got to do with me? The fact is still that there has never been a year between updates. We aren't even past the most lengthy time between updates yet people swear it's June like we just had an update in October or something.

To be honest, why would Apple want to do a minor upgrade and not introduce a new form factor when Microsoft, Dell, Lenove and more have come up with new designs 'competing' with the rMBP's. I think it wouldn't be wise for Apple to make such a move as an average consumer might recognise there isn't much new in the rMBP and might want to switch to something 'newer' (see Skylake w/ MS)

Looking at the buyer's guide makes me sigh, and probably an average consumer too.
I am starting to think Apple will want to make a big bang, refreshing most of their Mac line.
It'd be a smart move in the growing Mac computer sales, making the purchase of a Mac computer seem alot more attractive for a big group of people
