I expect a new redesign because:
  • usb-c ports need to be included
  • Innovations from the rMB will come to the MBP
  • It has been 4 years since the last redesign (previous model lasted from 2008 - 2012)
  • I believe they will be able to make especially the 15" a lot thinner/smaller because I don't believe the new MBP will have a dedicated GPU with the performance that the Iris Pro 580 is delivering

The new redesign will come in March or June. I hope for March but as long as we don't have any concrete rumours it is safe to bet on June. But we still have some time for leaks/rumors. Last year the rMB was leaked only 1 month in advance. So the next 2 - 3 weeks will be crucial is the March event is about to take place.

The MacBook Air won't receive a redesign. It will eventually be replaced with the rMB so expect a speed bump.

I know a lot of people think the rMB will replace the Macbook Air, but I don't know that I agree. The performance gap between the 4.5 Watt Core M's and the 28/45 Watt Macbook Pro CPU's is very large. It seems weird to me that they would drop the 15Watt line.

Everybody is talking about the march event, but is that for sure that there will be an event or is it just "rumor"? And which date in march? I can't waiiiiittttttt ... 17" Mac Book Pro from 2010 here ... phew

Only rumors at the moment.

The original rMBP was mostly identical to the cMBP.
No it wasn't. Not only did they update from Sandy Bridge to Ivy Bridge, they changed almost everything about the MBP including graphics and a required SSD. They, at the same time, also updated the classic MBP to Ivy Bridge.

Using a 2009 here. I feel your pain!

28W Skylake-U GT3e is out! Here's a quick performance comparison:

Iris 6100 (Macbook Pro 13'' Early 2015) vs Iris 550 (Vaio Z Flip)

- Cinebench R15 GPU OpenGL (Higher is better)
Iris 6100 (28W): 34.01 FPS
Iris 550 (28W): 61.45 FPS

- 3DMark 11 Performance Preset (Higher is better)
Iris 6100 (28W): 1828
Iris 550 (28W): 2830

Iris 550 (28W) is an impressive piece of tech, and I'm confident Apple's implementation (Macbook Pro 13'' 2016) will beat the scores of this new Vaio. This is the new Core i7-6567U CPU, should be used in high-end 2016 Macbook Pro 13'' models.

*Scores from MobileTechReview, NBC and AnandTech.
Other comparisons here: Link 1, Link 2. More to come.
Iris Pro 580 GFLOPS measure is approximately 35-50% higher than the Iris 550, depending on clock. Approx 35-40% at 1Ghz, and 50% more at 1.1Ghz matching the Iris 550 clock.

With the news on the front page again it is a step treatment to the 15" rMBP I don't understand why is Apple so lethargic, hesitant in upgrading the 15" when it is going on upgrading the 13" rMBP!!

Actually start up page , against speeks for a new MacBook Pro 13 in March , and 15' June .

I think these are good news for 13' fans !

So as I understand it... we can expect rMBP with skylake and a redesign in time for September-October this year? I am talking about the 13 inch.

If they're going to release the 15 inch in June, that will be one less unit sold. Razer blade stealth will have to do :D

Welcome news for the rest of you waiting, I'm sure. Looks like the 15" is for sure a June purchase, so I am really grateful I bought mine when I did. No regrets here, since I really needed a computer for school that could keep up with what I'm doing. Hoping the MB and 13" are shown in March for a friend who is dying to buy an updated MB.

LOL at the end of the year! By the time most of us get our hands on the new rmbp 15, skylake will be ancient.

So if you take the "announcement by Intel by/around GDC" as true - GDC is March 14-18.
Apple does events on a Tuesday or later in the week so the press can get there, so what
47 odd days to go for an official event and announcement the most, with Intel probably announcing in advance on the 14th?

I do not believe they will release the 15 inch in June.. It seems unnecessary for them. I can't imagine too many people purchasing a 15 inch if the 13 inch gets updated in March, they then know the 15 inch will be updated. And again, the source is Digitimes, so I call bs on that one.

Yes, the family of processors would be around a year old but the iris pro 580 chips are brand spankin' new. So see it how you want....

And my heart could rest assured if the 15" MBP would be released in june to be able to include Polaris/Pascal dGPU's.
