I've been waiting since October myself. Too late now to buy the current model. Besides, here in Canada, there has been no price drop at all - $1549 for the base 13", 128gb!

Yes too late for the currebt model i know.
Here in france prices are way higher than the us ones...

If theres no mbp update during march event, i'm done with the "waiting"
ive been waiting since november and need it for work.

But i just cant imagine buying a 2015 model in 2016...

:) i've been waiting since last mbp 15 update (read mid 2015 or ***** update) and before thath since mid 2014 :D so keep calm... all the good stuff will come within next update. I also invested couple of bucks in RAM and stuff to extend my current laptop's life.

Apply Pay is not just about NFC terminals. It's also a PayPal-like service allowing you to purchase things online. It's not surprising you don't know about this, as merchants have been slow to support it.
I know about this, but Apple Pay was named in the context of new hardware features.

Right. So to connect the dots - you want to buy something from an online retailer while using your mac. At checkout, you select the Apple Pay option. You get a pop-up asking for your thumb-print, and then thumb to pay.

Like I said before, this is not a feature I would buy a new mac for (not even close), but it could be nice to have.

So, the new hardware feature here would be Touch ID, not Apple Pay. Like I wrote on the last page, I don't see Touch ID coming to the Mac anytime soon. Instead, it would be nice to use Apple Pay on a Mac by utilizing the iPhone's or iPad's Touch ID sensor via continuity / handoff.

Touch ID and Apple Pay are linked. Also, your continuity solution is overly cumbersome in my opinion. After that much work, I may as well just use my credit card.

Yeh, announce in June and I think distribution/availability by August-September (third or fourth quarter). Will need to see 14" to see if it can replace 15". 16" sounds too large for my needs.

I would venture TouchID makes it's way in. So much has been happening in the security landscape with passwords being easily compromised. With Apple involved with government disputes over backdoor access, now is the perfect time to introduce a better security process than alphanumeric characters.

You still need a password -> no gain in security.
And of course it's legal to use your fingerprint against your will to unlock your device, but not to torture you to give them your password -> less security.

Require passwords after restart or two hours/days, modeled after IOS. And support passphrase (dunno if OS X already supports this).

Apple's touch ID implementation is the biggest load of crap...adds absolutely no utility since 90% of the time all of Apples IOS apps ask me for a damn password. I wish there was a LET ME USE YOUR DAMN TOUCH ID AND STOP ASKING ME FOR PASSWORDS option...

I understand if lets say it asked for a password after 10 invalid touch ID attempts or some sorts but how it currently works adds no utility except for the extra half second faster home screen unlock.

If they split the MBP line, and we will get a 12 and 14 inch MacBook (march, without TB3) and later MacBook Pro 16 inch in june, with TB3 and maybe new Thunderbolt display

And, if Apple would implement TouchID and the TouchID circle/ring, where on earth, on a laptop, would it be logical and easy to use. The only place i can think of is if the trackpad could be able to read a fingerprint.
But the speed and security gains aren't significantly improved. If it misreads my fingerprint once, i could've already logged in by typing

Right now, in my opinion, its too crazy of an idea for a laptop to gain such a feature in the current state of technology. Will it come in the future? Absolutely. How an when? I don't know...

I agree, who gives a hoot about touch id on a laptop? I certainly don't. Although that is a cool idea on having it on the track pad somehow built in to it.

Different experience here. My work app, banking apps, and health apps all easily unlock with TouchID. Love it.

But I have no idea where it would go on a notebook, and with a keyboard right there it does seem totally irrelevant.

perhaps they could put touch ID on the spacebar or one of the duplicate modifier keys.
It doesn't really sound like an exciting feature to me though. Like touch screens.
