Thank you AirdanMR - I think I've tried this before, and it didn't show what I expected based on a folder I had just updated. But I'll give it another try.

@AirdanMR - Here's an example of where it doesn't show me what I expected

I just opened a file from a folder in Word and closed it without saving it
I want to create a new file in that folder
That folder is not in that list

Never noticed! Maybe my workflow is different, but I checked and you are right, if you only open one file and close it, then Word won't show the folder - file in recent files, you have to save it first for that, it's a bit weird.

June isn't that far away, I just want a solid worthwhile upgrade, a couple of months more post March for a notebook that should last a good 3-4 years at least is worth it if they are going to cut some corners in March.

That's how i feel, if we have to wait till June, (hopefully) it will be that much better!

So everyone is talking about the resolution of the screen (15' particularly), but not a lot of you are talking about efficiency or colour gamut.

On the pixel debate, I'm for increasing it to 4k, I'd like the workable 'Best for Retina' resolution to show more actual content. I'd really like the same aspect ratio but if you go for 3840x2400 that's over 4k and considering Skylake can only support 3x 4K displays at a time, this seems doubtful. Can anyone chime in if Apple has gone over the recommended display minimum, that way we may still be able to run the internal and 2x 4k monitors in addition?
I keep thinking about the MacBook and how it has the most efficient display for any MacBook to date according to the website by 30% - do you think this will inevitably come to the MacBook Pro in the next revision creating some great battery longevity along with the Skylake processors?
As for gamut, is DCI-P3 just plain expected now it's in the iMac? I know the Dell XPS 15 has 100% Adobe RGB, which as far as I'm aware includes all the DCI-P3 colours, so it's feasible for Apple to match the iMac at a minimum. Right?

Just to start the debate on GPU's again though, once Apple takes it out they'll never put it back in again. So I actually doubt that this is the year they'll take it out. Pascal has mobile releases in March (or so I read somewhere on the net) - no product announced as far as I know. Apple could have acquired the first batch to play catch up, if these are laptop orientated GPUs. However, like the MacBook if they get rid of the GPU they could redo the logic board and shrink it to allow for a heck of a lot more battery volume even with a little thinning of the case. So there is a big opportunity for Apple to ditch the GPU, I just think it'll be next year once eGPU is more viable.

PS. My 2c on the aging thunderbolt display - I think it will be updated at WWDC with the Mac Pro. I reckon it'll have a 5k display as the next generation of GPU's will allow for DP 1.3 and are all due for mid to end of year, setting up next year for MacBook Pro's to receive DP 1.3 in Kaby Lake and any GPU they may possibly decide to stick in them.

SICK & TIRED OF WAITING!

its almost end of feb. and We still have not seen any hint of Apple announcing anything officially... What is going on? Are they really just updating stupid apple watch, wrist bands, iphone 7, OS 9.3 and thats it?? Seriously, they need to announce new rMBP asap!!!!!

As soon the event ended and the audience realised that the were no new macbook pro's, a great disturbance was felt all over the world as Apple fans went to the streets and rioted. In a never before seen unity Apple and Android fans fired up their flame throwers and pitchforks together with a common joint goal to make Apple suffer as they have suffered in the last 12 months.

Well there was that one time , when Apple and Android fans rallied together to boycott retailers who were turning off NFC after Apple Pay users were using them unofficially.

"An unholy alliance formed in the fires of hate."

DCI-P3 and AdobeRGB do not overlap completely. One is not a subset of the other. They both are wide gamut but cover slightly different parts of the spectrum.

I completely agree a wider colour gamut is needed. Given they went with P3 in the iMac, for whatever reason, I guess they will do the same with the MBP.

i need the new MBP in March so much that i may not finish my diploma on time. June is when i am supposed to finish it. I'm a graphic designer and my 4 years old vaio is just to weak to work comfortable and fast with it. If it doesnt release in march i will be forced to buy another laptop but i really dont want to do it because i know i will regret it in the future but i would have no choice. What is extraordinary is that in my country dell xps which i might be forced to buy is a lot more expensive than mbp because there is no student discount and no option to buy it without tax while at apple i can deduct tax if i buy it for company and earn student discount additionaly.

Polaris GPUs for mobile/laptop/notebook/hybrid-things are being announced in Lenovo computers, such as the R7 M460. Which is releasing in April.

Maybe we will get a dGPU? Either ways, just give me at least an Iris Pro 580 and Thunderbolt 3. If you want to throw in a dGPU for good measure - sure! :)

Edit: I don't know if these are actually Polaris or just a rebrand.

You need to give yourself a shake and go get a new computer. In all honesty, as much as we enjoy kibitzing here, the difference between the MBP that's on offer now and what's coming up is relatively small in the big scheme of things. You need a computer now; go get one now.

For you speed freaks building your TB3 kit, Akitio is now shipping their Thunderbolt 3 Chassis. I wish I would've seen this before getting their USB-C 3.1 drive (which is nice but still).

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BL0CKIM

EDIT: Scratch all this. Their product page says "This Thunderbolt product is not compatible with Mac OS X." which is mind-blowing to say the least. Will have to ask them about that. Why wouldn't it be OS X compatible?
Edit 2: Nevermind, it makes sense considering that there are no Macs with TB3 yet.

Strangely the specs mention it is an Iris 540 and not the 550..

The way that was explained in another review was that the preprod units listed the Iris 540 although they still had the 550. Not sure if I believe it, but the chip they're using does run the Iris 550.

This is probably because no Mac currently supports TB3, and they don't want people to accidentally buy it just because they've seen "Thunderbolt"

I hope Anandtech or ArsTechnica can review this quickly so we can see how much Intel has improved compared to the IRIS 6100.

It looks like they are Cape Verde Rebrands, at least M460.

So low in naming scheme that is truly strange. But ok, fair enough.
